Boktryckaren på Visingsö : en granskning av Sven Almqvists forskning om Johann Kankel / The book printer on the island of Visingsö : a study of Sven Almqvist’s research on Johann KankelHedfeldt, Göran January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine Sven Almqvist’s research on the 17th century book printer Johann Kankel who was employed by count Per Brahe the younger on the island of Visingsö. A model to describe the communications circuit, constructed by book historians Thomas R. Adams and Nicolas Barker are used as well as the historical source criticism method. This model consists of the five phases: publication, manufacture, distribution, reception and survival. All of these phases are influenced by external forces such as commercial pressures or social behaviour and taste. It is not only Almqvist’s study that is being examined. This thesis discusses also the primary sources and publications preceding of Almqvist’s study. Since Almqvist’s publication of 1965 is the latest contribution to information about Johann Kankel it is an important task to evaluate his study and to shed light upon possible new fields of research about the printing office of Visingsö. Furthermore the conditions of 17th century Sweden are briefly described, such as the four estates, gothicismus, censorship and publishing. Almqvist used mainly primary sources when describing life and work of book printer Kankel. The result of his study hasn’t therefore been greatly influenced by previous publications. In a few isolated cases the lack of primary sources permits free scope for speculation. Distribution, reception and survival as described by Adams & Barker are the most neglected phases in Almqvist’s study. These overlooked areas are therefore possible new research topics. / Uppsatsnivå: D

De fransöske handtwerkarne vid Stockholms slott 1693–1713 : Yrkesroller, organisation, arbetsprocesser / French Sculptors and Painters at the Royal Palace in Stockholm 1693–1713 : Roles, contexts and practicesHinners, Linda January 2012 (has links)
The thesis deals with French sculptors and painters active around 1700 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. They were summoned from Paris by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the younger (1654–1728). This study analyses the Frenchmen’s professional roles, how Tessin organised their work and the working methods applied in the decoration of the Gallery of Charles XI and the adjoining parade rooms. It also involves questions concerning the artist’s roles and the status of artistic professions at the early modern period. The artisans were a group of some fifteen sculptors, painters, founders and a goldsmith. Several of them were accompanied by family members, some of whom were active in the workshop. In France these sculptors and painters had worked in the Bâtiments du Roi and particularly at the Gobelins. Although they were not part of the artistic elite at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture they had vital knowledge in classical pattern/design, le bon goût and drawing. The artisans were also members of the guild system and were thus permitted to accept private commissions. My aim has been to clarify the artisans’ background in Paris and the recruitment undertaken by the diplomat Daniel Cronström (1655–1719). With regard to their activities in Sweden, it has been important to clarify their conditions in the building organisation at the Royal Palace, including social contexts such as their family situation and the possibility to practise their Catholic faith. Equally important is the professional relationship between the Frenchmen and Tessin, who was appointed Superintendent in 1697. Through detailed archival studies, the working practices and the creative process are analysed, especially the collaboration between Tessin and the painter Jacques Foucquet and the sculptors René Chauveau (1663–1722) and Jacques Foucquet (1639–1731).

"Af rättskänsla, nit och kärlek" : Intendenten Scholander och snickaren Peterssons olika synsätt på restaureringen av Kungsmaket i Kalmar 1856 - 1861, samt kontroversen därefter / “With the sense of justice, zeal and love" : Superintendent Scholander and Carpenter Petersson's different approach to the restoration of the King's chamber in Kalmar 1856 - 1861, and the controversy afterwardsOlsson, Martina January 2011 (has links)
The essay is a study about the schism that occurred between the Superintendent F. W. Scholander, from the authority of ÖIÄ, and the Carpenter Olof Petersson, during the restoration of the King’s Chamber at Kalmar Castle from 1856 to 1861. The story then continues until the cooperation ends around 1877. During the restoration Scholander was the responsible leader, through correspondence from Stockholm, while Petersson was foreman in Kalmar. After the restoration was completed, Petersson wanted to show the door of the King’s Chamber in an exhibition of newly made works in London. In this essay believed to be the International Exhibition of 1862. But he was then prevented by Scholander who thought the room totally as a remainder from the 1500s. From being positive to the result with the restoration, Scholander then changed setting and considered that Petersson had made major errors. After that the schism lead to more disagreements. Through an analysis of primary sources and letter correspondence from the time, the events are reported during and after the restoration of the King’s Chamber. In which the restoration of the Golden hall is partly included. Added to this there is an orientation and examination of Scholander´s and Peterson's backgrounds, and a description of the interior of the King’s Chamber. The essay aims to examine whether there are more reasons for a schism between the parties than what has emerged in the previous literature. And why they had different views on what period the King’s Chamber belonged. It also aims to show the people behind the schism. Mainly Peterson's life and professional background and how the schism affected him.
