Karlsson, Stefan January 2006 (has links)
<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>Purpose/Aim: This essay aims to investigate what picture (obvious and hidden) of men and womens equality in our society that is to be found on DN Debatt.</p><p>Material/Method: The material consists of 175 articles from DN Debatt during 2004. A content analysis and a rethoric analysis has then been used as a method of analysing the material.</p><p>Main results: Men are much more represented on DN Debatt then women. The underlying picture of men and women that is presented sees men as being the ones who are in charge of all the important and “big” decisions and questions in our society. Women on the other hand are pictured as, although they have reached higher positions in society, the ones who to a high degree focus on closer and more socially important issues. The investigation has found much support of Yvonne Hirdmans theories of the gender system.</p><p>Keywords: Dagens Nyheter, DN Debatt, Gender, Gender Images, Media</p>

Englund, Caroline, van Reis, Andreas January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyze how a conflict between a restaurant owner in Gothenburg and a labor union is described in the newspapers Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter and Göteborgs-Posten during the time from the 5th of December 2006 until the 31st of March 2007. The labor union put the restaurant in a blockade on the 5th of December 2006 because the owner did not comply with the collective labor agreement. The media paid a great deal of attention to the conflict and high ranking politicians got involved. The conflict was frequently compared to the biblical David and Goliath story. In order to discover how the three newspapers had portrayed the conflict we made a qualitative discourse analysis. We used theories about news production and language as starting-points. Our conclusion was that the newspapers all reported news about the conflict in similar ways. In most cases the restaurant owner Sofia Appelgren was described as David and the labor union as Goliath. All three newspapers used media scientist Hvitfeld’s criteria for view points in media on several occasions. The most common view points were personification, the individual against the collective authority and the conflict view point. The incident was described using many metaphors. We found two types of metaphors used frequently in all three newspapers: metaphors of war and of politics. The biggest difference that we discovered was that Aftonbladet was the only publication that in some cases made the story reflects well upon the labor union and badly upon the restaurant owner. Another difference was that Dagens Nyheter placed more focus upon the political figures involved.

Larsson, Björn January 2008 (has links)
Aim: The study's aim and run-up are to investigate how journalists frame texts, during impact of those standards and values that they have, combined with the organization and in the nation where they work. Method/Material: The study looks on how the authors of articles at the Swedish newspaper "Dagens Nyheter" and the Norwegian newspaper "Dagbladet", uses the concept al-Qaida, in their news rapport, during the period 19:th of mars – 24:th of august 2003. Two hundred articles were collected and divided into two groups, 1) the explicit group, there the text actu ally treated al-Qaida, 2) the implicit group, there the text e.g. linked to the name al-Qaida and the article itself treated another subject. Is it possible to see differences or resemblances, in the way that journa lists frame their texts? The main theoretical run-up is framing accor- ding to R. Entman (1993). The study works with an overall hypothesis: that it advises differences between these two countries and newspapers framing of al-Qaida. Main results: Among the explicit articles, the newspaper "Dagbladet" distinguihes themselves most, both in the number of articles and how many times they used the concept al-Qaida. Among the implicit articles, it is the newspaper "Dagens Nyheter" that have the largest amount of articles, but it is the "Dagbladet" that mentions the concept al-Qaida more times. I therefore draw the conclusion that "Dagbladet" "refers/ mentions" al-Qaida considerable more times in their articles than "Dagens Nyheter". The reason to this is probably the cultural, indivi dual, organizational and national differences that are between the countries. And probably that Norway were a part of the Iraq coalition force's 2003.

Den ofrivillige nationalisten : En komparativ studie av nationalism i Sverige under finanskrisen 2008-2011 utifrån dagspress / The relucant nationalist : A comparative study of the nationalism in Sweden during the financial crisis of 2008-2011 as viewed from a media perspective

Karlsson, Angelica January 2013 (has links)
Mass communication today stands for a great number of information in the developed welfare state of Sweden. This was also the case during the social and economic financial crisis in 2008-2011. At this point, the majority of the population chose to turn to the newspapers to look for further information. This essay seeks, in a comparative and theoretical way, and with the help of two theories of nationalism, to understand how the Swedish culture and tradition can be explained via newspapers, and in what way these portray nationalism. What it also sets out to investigate further is what kind of impact it might exercise over the population in its position as one of the leading providers of information. The research is conducted through the use of articles published by Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet during the financial crisis 2008-2011 in Sweden. It occur a form of institutionalized nationalism that is barely noticeable in Sweden. The discussion concludes that even though there is a slight nationalism noticeable in the two above mentioned newspapers, one needs a further investigation in order to be able to generalize if mass communication in Sweden today portrays nationalism.

Widegren, Ellinor, Österberg, Ellenor January 2012 (has links)
