Skada, vinst och samhällsflytt : En kvalitativ studie om hur LKAB porträtteras i Dagens Nyheter / Damage, profit and community relocation : -A qualitative study how LKAB are portrayed in Dagens NyheterEngman, Sam January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to examine how LKAB are portrayed in the newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN). The methods that were used were: Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) combined with Critical Linguistic Analysis. These were used since they help to reveal the structures and unconscious meaning and power of word. It gives the tools to see how authority, power and meaning of words are constructed during social practice of the way they are used. To complement the method the theories that’s used are discourse analysis since CDA is both a method and a theory. A theory concerning journalism has also been included for the paper. As a result of the analysis, it shows that LKAB is portrayed as a large company with huge amount of economic resources. In articles with a positive attitude against the company they are regarded as a strong and active company in the Swedish economy during the financial crisis that generates a lot of money for the Swedish state. Articles that portrait LKAB in a negative way, regards them as a company that with the power of the state are allowed to look past the individuals that lives near the mines or the environment as long as it generates money for them and the state. The people living near the mines will have to accept the thing that’s happening to them. This paper also shows that the articles that were analyzed, all of them confirm and legitimize the power to certain sources used for facts which confirms that journalists needs certain sources to appear as secure but that also let the sources with power keep their power.

Homelessness and homeless people is something that is described and explained in different ways over time. Since the 1950s, two discourses about homelessness and its causes has been competing with each other. One discourse hold the meaning that homelessness is caused by housing shortage and the other focus on individual shortcomings that make homeless to unsuitable tenants. In the media, homelessness and homeless often is associated with crime, addiction and mental illness, this reinforce the public perception of homeless people as deviants, which separates the homeless from society even more. The purpose of this study is to examine whether media representations of homeless and homelessness in an evening paper and a morning paper, has changed in the 2000s, and if these representations are consistent with those found in the reports of homelessness from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. In order to achieve the purpose of the study and answer our research questions, the authors have used a discourse analytical approach using some key analytical tools from both critical discourse analysis and discourse theory in the analysis of the empirical material. The material consists of articles from two of the largest newspapers in Sweden, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet, and the reports from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. The result of the study shows that in year 2000 the image of homeless as substance abusers and mentally ill middle-aged men who are roughsleepers is dominating in both Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter and in the report from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. In year 2012 this representation of homeless remains but is no longer the dominant, when new homeless groups are presented in our material. Our results also indicates that homelessness discourse changed in the 2000s from a antisocial discourse to a discourse that focus on right. The study also shows that the discourse on homeless women has not changed in the 2000s.

SOS: var god dröj! : En kvalitativ textanalys av Aftonbladet och Dagens Nyheters rapportering kring SOS Alarm / SOS Alarm: Please Hold! : A qualitative content analysis of Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheters coverage of SOS AlarmMånsson, Annajohanna, Swärd, Emma January 2011 (has links)
This study aims to study the media’s reporting on a number of specific events linked to the SOS Alarm. With the foundation of the selected theories discussed the results that the investigation concludes with a focus on the dramatization. Our conclusion in the analysis of reporting on SOS Alarm is that both papers, but mainly Aftonbladet has created a biased and partially inaccurate picture of different events by the frequent use of dramatizations in the texts. The bias proved out to be negative, which depends on the choice of words and context in which the newspapers have done.

Sprutbyte – Not In My Back Yard : En diskursanalys om attityder kring införandet av Stockholms sprutbytesverksamhet / Needle exchange – Not In My Back Yard : A discourse analysis of attitudes on the Stockholm needle exchanges program for drug usersWassberg, Bengt, Ramnebrink, Johan January 2014 (has links)
About 35 years ago the WHO advocated that countries with injecting drug users should introduce the so-called needle exchange programs (NEP) to curb the spread of infection by blood-borne diseases. In Sweden the first NEP started 1985 in Lund, but the program was extremely controversial in a country with such a restrictive drug policy like Sweden. The study you are about to read shall process this controversy, when a NEP opened in Stockholm, by analyzing the articles published in the newspapers Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet. By using discourse analysis as a processing tool we’ll try to see the difference between the two chosen newspapers. We will identify and analyze the different participant’s, such as doctors, politicians, user associations and media, arguments in the needle exchange issue. Our results show that the liberal DN articles were supportive of the NEP and that they considered it to be an infectious disease control issue. The liberal conservative newspaper SvD had a different view of the issue and considered NEP to be a question about drug policy. Even after the decision was made the city had problems to find suitable premises for the NEP to operate from.

Hästsport i dagspressen : En studie av hästsportens representation och framställning i svenska dagstidningar / Equestrian sports in the daily press : A study of the representation and depiction of equestrian sports in Swedish daily newspapersHedlund, Camilla, Lantz, Jannika January 2013 (has links)
The following essay is based on a quantitative as well as a qualitative study with the aim ofmapping out the representation and depiction of different sports, with focus on equestriansports, in two of Sweden’s largest daily newspapers during a time period of four weeksin 2012. We considered it important to see if there was any ground for the prejudicesabout the lack of representation of equestrian sports in the media, and we also wanted tosee if the media storm following Rolf-Göran Bengtsson’s win of Jerringpriset in any wayaffected the sport’s representation.First, the quantitative study was executed with over 1 100 articles analyzed. The qualitativestudy followed where four reports were selected for further investigation. These coveredthe three sports most written about as well as the equestrian sports. They were analyzedand compared in order to locate patterns of resemblance or difference. One of the mostimportant finds was that the majority of the articles in the quantitative study about equestriansports were written during the week of Gothenburg Horse Show while there were noarticles written about said sport during the final week of the study.

Kvinnor i arbetslivet : – en jämförande analys av hur svenska pressen skrev om kvinnor i arbetslivet / Women in working life : - A comparative analysis of how Swedish press wrote about women in working lifeSundqvist, Carolina January 2018 (has links)
3. / The purpose of this study and essay has been to explain how Swedish press has written about women in working life. The articles used as source material in this survey have been taken from three journals. Aftonbladet (Ab), Dagens Nyheter (DN) and Svenska Dagbladet (SvD). In order to carry out this survey, an issue has been used that consists of three questions: 1. How did the Swedish press write about women's participation in working life? What resistance and support was there? Both now and then. 2. Did there be any differences in how to describe different occupational categories? 3. What are the differences and similarities between the different selected journals, and if so, how and why were these? In order to do the survey, there have also been delimitations. One such has been to study articles from the magazines Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet. In order to delimit this, I have searched for articles from these journals in KB's search engine with the words "Women in working life". I have also used a specific time period to further define the source material, and the time-limit is from 1900-01-01 through 2018-01-01. The research articles describe women in working life from different perspectives. Generally speaking, they discuss the issue from an equality perspective. Where it is said that it is good for the whole community with gender equality. In this essay, an analysis is also being made to investigate whether there were any differences and similarities between the three journals on this issue. The answer to this analysis is, of course, there were differences and similarities, and that this was mainly due to the fact that the journals had different political perspectives to look at the matter.

"Metoo var bara det första steget" : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om Dagens Nyheters gestaltning av sexualbrott före och efter #metoo / "Metoo was just the first step" : A quantitative content analysis about Dagens Nyheters framing of sexual offenses before and after #metooAndersson, Ronja January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor study was to examine and analyze if there were any difference in how Dagens Nyheter framed sexual crimes before and after the metoo movements peak in 2017. Framing theory was used to categorize different frames in the reporting of sexual crimes in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The research question was: which frames are the most common in Dagens Nyheters framing of sexual crimes and how common are these frames? Is there any difference in what frames appear in Dagens Nyheter before and after the metoo movements peak in 2017? With a quantitative content analysis I could examine how often the frames were used by Dagens Nyheter and if it was any different after the metoo movements peak in 2017. A total of 869 articles were analyzed. 240 articles in 2014, 322 articles in 2017 and 307 articles in 2020. By using framing theory, ten frames were identified. “police report and legal process”, “sexual offenses linked to religion”, “sexual offenses as a societal problem”, “sexual offense legislation and criticism”, “men with power”, “fact about sexual offenses”, “sexual offenses as a metaphor”, “victim of sexual offenses”, “accused of sexual offenses” and “other”. The result of the examine showed that the most used frame was “police report and legal process”. In the period of 2014 the second most used frame was “sexual offense legislation and criticism”. In the period of 2017 the second most used frame was “victim of sexual offenses” and in the period of 2020 the second most used frame was “sexual offenses as a societal problem”. The biggest difference before and after metoo movement that were found was the frame “accused of sexual offenses”. In 2014 it was not found at all while in 2020 it was one of the more common frames.

"Gummikulor mot demonstranter i Hongkong" : En kvalitativ textanalys om hur demonstrationerna i Hongkong 2019 gestaltades i två svenska morgontidningar. / "Rubber bullets against protesters in Hong Kong" : A qualitive textual analysis of how the protests in Hong Kong 2019 were framed in two Swedish newspapers.Mäki, Isella, Lehtonen, Karin January 2021 (has links)
Earlier research shows that news media use violence and conflict to frame demonstrations. A protests news coverage is often negative and portrayed in such a way that impedes the background and message of a demonstration. Demonstrations usually seek media attention to spread their message to a bigger audience. What the media choose to present can have a big impact on how a demonstration is perceived and the outcome of it. Negative news coverage can make a demonstration appear unnecessary and can lead to a loss of power and status in the society. The purpose of this study is to examine how the protests in Hong Kong 2019 were framed in Swedish news media and if the news coverage follows the protest paradigm. The framing theory, the protest paradigm and news value theory are the theories applied in this study. The method used was a qualitative textual analysis and one article from Dagens Nyheter and one article from Göteborgs-Posten were analyzed. The results in our study show that the articles, in some way, correlate with the protest paradigm. Violence and conflict occur frequently in both Dagens Nyheter and Göteborgs-Posten’s news coverage of the protests in Hongkong, especially in the beginning of the articles. However, the results also go against the protest paradigm in multiple ways. The newspapers do write about the protesters purpose, goals and background, as well as the police violence.

Krigsfaran tillspetsad : En kvalitativ och komparativ undersökning utav två dagstidningars rapportering utav Skotten i Sarajevo och Julikrisen / Threat of War Heightened : A Qualitative and Comparative Study on the Reporting on the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the July Crisis by Two Swedish newspapersGustafsson, Hampus January 2019 (has links)
This essay has, through the use of a comparative and qualitative method, set out to compare two Swedish newspapers; Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) and Dagens Nyheter (DN) and to discover if there were any significant differences between the way they reported on the assassination of Arch-duke Frans Ferdinand in Sarajevo in 1914 as well as the subsequent July crisis and the start of World War I. It looks at what may have caused these differences as well as if the papers took a stance for or against any of the belligerent countries. The results of this study show that while there are minor differences, mostly in the editorial parts of the paper and the choice of smaller stories, most of the reporting tends to be very similar and contains the same major stories and events. The papers also both tend to view Serbia negatively and Germany and England positively. The few differences in opinion appears to be the cause of the paper’s different political positions and this is mostly expressed in the editorial section.
