Presentera lägesbilder på kollektivtrafiken genom dashboards / Present common operating pictures on public transport using dashboards

Samhället påverkas av kriser. Störningar i kollektivtrafiken påverkar samhällsviktiga resor, vilka kan identifieras som exempelvis hälso-och sjukvårdspersonals resor till arbetet. I det svenska samhällets krisberedskap skapas lägesbilder för att skapa en helhetsbild och förståelse av en kris. Under krissituationer har aktörer upplevt svårigheter med lägesbilder som har inkluderat bland annat att hitta relevant information samt rapportera på rätt nivå. Syftet med studien är att presentera ett nytt och mer hållbart sätt att skapa lägesbilder på, med inriktning på kollektivtrafiken, genom att undersöka hur lägesbilder på kollektivtrafiken kan visualiseras i ett dashboard samt identifiera indikatorer som är bra för att visa hur kollektivtrafiken påverkas av kriser. Studien ämnar besvara frågeställningen ”Hur kan lägesbilder på hur kollektivtrafiken påverkas av kriser visualiseras i ett dashboard?”. Studien har applicerat en kvalitativ metodansats innefattande en intervjustudie som datainsamlingsmetod med ett urval av respondenter som besitter expertkunskap inom kollektivtrafik och/eller krisberedskap i det svenska samhället. En tematisk analys har lett till resultat som besvarat frågeställningen. Resultatet påvisar att lägesbilder på hur kollektivtrafiken påverkas av kriser kan visualiseras i ett dashboard genom att visualisera hur kollektivtrafiken presterar. Studien har kommit fram till indikatorer som påvisar hur kollektivtrafiken presterar vilka är antal inställda avgångar, antalet försenade avgångar, antal resenärer samt biljettintäkter. Resultatet presenterar förslag på hur dashboard kan utformas för att skapa förutsättningar för aktörer att detektera smygande kriser, visualisera hur länge krisen varar samt gå tillbaka och se vad effekten blev av en kris. Slutligen presenterar en slutsats vart respektive data kan hämtas samt en prototyp på ett dashboard som visualiserar hur kollektivtrafiken påverkas av kriser.

Communicating a Child's Learning Progress in a Digital Interface

The educational digital games are both used at school and at home by children. However, if used at home, how should parent's be able to tell a child learning progress in the game when they have limited knowledge in children's education? The purpose of this thesis is enhance the knowledge on how to design a digital interface that communicates the learning progress of a child to its parents. This by establishing a suggested framework on this subject. To be able to create the framework the Design thinking method were used. First suggestions, based on literature and interviews with teachers, for the design and framework were created. Then a Hight fidelity prototype of the digital interface based in the suggestions were designed. And lastly the prototype where tested in a Usability test. The usability test showed what in the suggestions that worked. The parts that worked were summarized in the suggested framework that the study where successful in creating. The framework contained both suggestion in how to visually represent a learning progress and how to communicate it. / Pedagogiska digitala spel används både i skolan och hemma av barn. Men om de används hemma, hur ska föräldrar kunna förstå vad ett barns lärandeutveckling i spelet när de har begränsad kunskap om barns utbildning? Syftet med denna uppsats är att öka kunskapen om hur man utformar ett digitalt gränssnitt som kommunicerar ett barns kunskapsutveckling till sina föräldrar. Detta genom att fastställa en föreslagen ram för detta ämne. För att kunna skapa ramverket användes Design thinking metoden. Först skapades förslag till design och ramverk, baserade på litteratur och intervjuer med lärare. Sedan designades en High fidelity prototyp av det digitala gränssnittet baserat på förslagen. Och slutligen testades prototypen i ett användbarhetstest. Användbarhetstestet visade vad i förslagen som fungerade. Delarna som fungerade sammanfattades i det föreslagna ramverket som studien lyckades skapa. Ramverket innehöll både förslag på hur man visuellt ska representera en inlärningsframsteg och hur man kommunicerar den.

Les services basés sur les technologies de l’information dans les secteurs publics et privés sont en pleine croissance. Par conséquent, la demande énergétique est de plus en plus importante pour alimenter les équipements informatiques au sein des établissements utilisateurs et dans les data-centres. A cette phase de consommation, facilement identifiable par les utilisateurs, s’ajoute la phase de production des équipements dont les conséquences sur l’environnement sont difficilement perceptibles par les utilisateurs. Ainsi, les impacts environnementaux des TIC paraissent principalement « délocalisés » et « invisibles » par rapport à l’utilisateur final.Progressivement, l’enjeu environnemental prend sa place dans la logique du secteur des technologies de l’information, aboutissant au concept de « Green IT ». Concepteurs et utilisateurs cherchent désormais à évaluer les impacts environnementaux des technologies de l’information. Dans un contexte d’évaluation environnementale pour l’aide à la décision, l’objectif de cette thèse est d’évaluer les impacts environnementaux des équipements informatiques d’une organisation. Pour cela, nous envisageons une démarche qui vise à enrichir l’approche produit de type ACV par l’ajout de données spécifiques à l’organisation étudiée.Les recherches bibliographiques ont permis de dégager les spécificités et les besoins méthodologiques en termes d’évaluation des impacts. Ainsi, une méthodologie permettant l’expression des impacts environnementaux locaux et planétaires liés à la fabrication et à l’utilisation des technologies de l’information au sein d’une organisation est proposée. Appliquée lors d’un partenariat avec une entreprise multinationale de la grande distribution et validée par son application dans un centre de recherche, cette méthodologie centralise à la fois des données génériques disponibles dans des bases de données et des données spécifiques recueillies auprès des utilisateurs de l’organisation étudiée. Cette étape de terrain, point central de la méthodologie, permet dans un premier temps d’obtenir l’inventaire des équipements présents et dans un second temps de connaître et de comprendre le comportement réel des utilisateurs via une enquête et des mesures de puissances et de consommations électriques des équipements représentatifs du panel inventorié (utilisation de boitiers d’acquisition de valeurs dits « économètre »).L’approche d’évaluation environnementale des systèmes informatiques développée au cours de ce travail a pour objectif de mettre en exergue les répercussions sur l’environnement que peuvent avoir les technologies de l’information au sein d’une organisation. Un des résultats principaux montre que la majorité des impacts environnementaux sont plus liés à la phase de production qu’à la phase d’utilisation. De plus, cette méthode aide à l’identification des pistes d’améliorations : choix et gestion des équipements, comportement individuel, charte d’utilisation, choix d’une politique éco-responsable… Ainsi, par un calcul d’éco-efficience mettant en jeu les gains environnementaux et économiques, les solutions répondant à la stratégie de développement de l’organisation étudiée peuvent être sélectionnées. / Services based on information technology in public and private sectors are growing. Therefore, the energy demand is more and more important to supply computer equipments within organizations and data-centers. So, environmental impacts of ICT are mostly “delocalised" and "invisible" from the end user.Gradually, the environmental issue takes place in the sector of information technology resulting in the new concept of the "Green IT". Nowadays, designers and users are seeking to assess the environmental impacts of information technology. In a context of environmental assessment for decision-making, the objective of this thesis is to assess the environmental impacts of devices of an organization. For this, we consider an approach to combine a product LCA approach with an inventory of data specific to a site.Literature searches have highlighted the specific and methodological needs in terms of impact assessment. Thus, a methodology for the expression of local and global environmental impacts associated with the production and use stages of information technology present within an organization is proposed. Applied in a partnership with a multinational society and validated by its application in a research laboratory, this methodology centralizes both generic data available in databases and specific data collected from users of the organization studied. This phase, key point of the methodology, provides firstly an inventory of present equipments and secondly the knowledge and comprehension of the actual behavior of users by the way of both a survey plus power and electric consumption measurements of representative equipments of the panel inventoried (use of acquisition boxes of values known as "energy meter").The environmental assessment approach developed in this work aims to highlight the environmental impact of the information technology’s equipments within an organization. One of the main results shows that the most environmental impacts are due to the production phase than the use phase. Moreover, the method helps to identify areas for improvement: selection and equipment management, individual behavior, usage policy, choice of an eco-friendly policy... So, by a calculation of eco-efficiency involving environmental and economic gains, solutions responding to the development strategy of the organization studied can be selected.

Conception des outils pour le suivi des activités et l’aide au pilotage dans le secteur médico-social / Design tools for monitoring activities and support for decision-making in the medico-social sector

L’amélioration de la performance du secteur médico-social nécessite des outils de pilotage aptes à donner rapidement et de façon synthétique une vision claire et quantifiée des activités réalisées en direction des usagers. Or, il n’existe pas aujourd’hui d’outils satisfaisants permettant un pilotage des activités au niveau de chaque structure, mais également au niveau de l'organisme gestionnaire. L’objet du travail de recherche est de concevoir des outils pour l’aide au pilotage et au suivi des activités dans le secteur médico-social permettant d’améliorer la vision actuelle du secteur médico-social trop cloisonné. En relation étroite avec Ressourcial (ancien département du système d’information de la Fondation OVE), ce travail s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une thèse CIFRE et constitue l'une des premières thèses des sciences de l'ingénieur qui s'attaquent aux problèmes d'organisation dans le secteur médico-social. Le premier enjeu scientifique de cette recherche est de proposer une démarche formelle et structurée de suivi des activités réalisées dans ces établissements. L’approche proposée devra être capable de rendre compte d’une typologie d’activités au spectre très large ; activités réalisées par des établissements ayant des modes de fonctionnements, et des cultures métiers, fortement hétérogènes. Sur ce volet, le verrou scientifique de ce travail est celui l’agrégation sur un même modèle, de modes de fonctionnement intrinsèquement hétérogènes. Le second enjeu scientifique de cette thèse est celui du développement d’approches innovantes pour l’analyse de ces données de suivi et pour l’aide au management de ces structures à partir de ces mêmes données. / Improving the performance of medico-social sector requires management tools capable of quickly and synthetically provide a clear and quantified view of activities towards the users. Unfortunally, today does not exist a satisfactory tools to control activities in each structure, as neither at the level of the managing organization. The object of the research work is to develop tools to aid management and monitoring of activities in the medico-social sector in order to improve the current vision of the medico-social sector too compartmentalized. Closely related to Ressourcial (former information system department of OVE Foundation), this work is part of a CIFRE thesis and is one of the first theses of engineering sciences that address to organizational problems in the medical-social sector. The first scientific challenge of this research is to propose a formal and structured approach to monitoring activities in these institutions. The proposed approach should be able to realize a typology of activities in a very broad spectrum; activities performed by institutions with operating modes, and business cultures, highly heterogeneous. On this aspect, the scientist lock of this work is that the aggregation on the same model, intrinsically heterogeneous operating modes. The second scientific challenge of this thesis is the development of innovative approaches for analyzing these monitoring data and to aid management of these structures from the same data.

The influence and impact that digitalisation have in our society has not gone unnoticed, every aspect of our daily lives have more or less been digitalized so that we can effectively communicate, share and gain information and knowledge through IT solutions. Businesses and organisations are being more effective and efficient by embedding IT solutions as a strategy into their daily work. A particular field that has been stagnant through this revolution is how businesses and organisations manage their workplace environment and the purpose of this study is therefore to shed light on, and contribute with knowledge about, the potential that IT have when it comes to managing organisational occupational health and safety. We look further into a graphical user interface such as dashboard to gain an insight on how it could be used as a tool to monitor progress within occupational health and safety. The methods used in this exploration are integrated approaches which contains both qualitative and quantitative methods, the data was collected through interviews and surveys in a public organisation. The results of the study displays three main concerns which are caused by the lack of systematic approach while working with occupational health and safety. These three concerns are identified as feedback challenges, lack of consistency and absence of appropriate actions. The study further highlights which key factors that need to be successful in order to create and maintain a healthy occupational health and safety. With the result of our study, businesses and organisations can gain an understanding and insight on what type of advantages can be gained by using IT in order to promote a systematic approach while dealing with a challenging task as the workplace environment.

Implementing Performance Measurement to support Continuous Improvement : An empirical case study in construction industry

Performance Measurement is necessary in order to support the implementation of a Continuous Improvement approach within a company. Performance Measurement has been a subject of increasing interest for researchers and practitioners. The questions addressed in the literature especially evolved from “what” to measure to “how” to measure. The present thesis follows this evolution by exploring how companies can successfully implement Performance Measurement. The thesis follows a parallel research design including a literature review and a case study. From one side, a literature review aims at explaining the main theories behind Performance Measurement, such as the concept of Performance Measurement System, as well as giving some recommendation for its implementation. On the other side, an empirical case study, conducted in a construction industry company, presents a practical implementation of Performance Measurement including some of the indicators dashboards built in several factories and departments of the company. The results of this case study are also supported by several interviews conducted at different steps of the implementation with the different actors involved. Then a theoretical verification is conducted by comparing the theory from the literature review with the empirical results from the case study. It especially allows to verify some recommendations as well as to identify a few gaps. The results of this study can be seen as a set of verified recommendations in order to successfully implement Performance Measurement within a company. These recommendations come from the comparison between theory and practice and they are divided in three main parts: the Key Performance Indicators identification, the Performance Measurement System design, and the practical implementation of Performance Measurement. Regarding this last part, five key success factors (e.g. perceived benefits of performance measurement, top management commitment) and five barriers (e.g. time and effort required, human behaviour) have been verified. Moreover, some Performance Measurement issues are discussed, such as the reduction of the complexity, the potential gaps between local approaches and global consistency, as well as the concept of organisational learning. Finally, the thesis identifies three kinds of trade-offs (e.g. accuracy of the data and cost of collection) that need to be considered when implementing Performance Measurement.

In the semi-arid zone of Ceara there is potential to build approximately 3,400 underground dams. The central problem of this study is the lack of in-depth knowledge of the degree of sustainability of underground dams of Ceará, in economic, social, environmental and institutional terms. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the sustainability of underground dams, the state of Ceará, as a social technology to living as semi-arid. For this, we used the Dashboard of Sustainability Method by dimension and global, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process to identify the underground dam operating alternative that generates greater benefits to communities. The questionnaires (field research), for the use of Dashboard of Sustainability method, was carried out with 40 farmers, owners of underground dams, located in 11 municipalities of the State of Ceará. The collection of judgments, for the application of Analytic Hierarchy Process applied together 11 experts and / or decision-makers with expertise in underground dams. When using the Dashboard of Sustainability method, which aims to identify the level of performance of sustainable development for indicator by size and global, were selected with the help of principal component analysis, 28 indicators. These indicators, only 36% achieved the level of 700 points, which is the sustainability threshold used in this thesis. None of the four dimensions reached the level of 700 points. The lower performance was with the economic dimension, reaching only 218 points (need for severe attention) when the maximum metric desirable for the model is 1,000 points or at least the threshold of sustainability of 700 points. The overall index, sustainable development (IGDS) of underground dams of Ceara, reached the metric of 538 points, considered an average level of performance and below the sustainability threshold. The selection of dam alternatives, made by AHP, according to the predominant use, showed that the highest priority for investment, to be decided by the public manager is to "underground dam focused on water supply," closely followed by "underground dam focused on agricultural production". The lowest metric was to "dam focused on environmental benefits", with a metric that reached only 33% of the first alternative. Another important finding that deserves reflection, was that farmers (ex-post analysis) have recorded reasonable performance of the environmental dimension indicators, while the expert and decision-makers (analysis ex-ante) have rated the "dam focused on earnings environmental" the third priority, with metric equal to one third of the first alternative. / A barragem subterrânea é uma tecnologia social de baixo custo e de processo simples de construção e operação. Na zona semiárida do Estado do Ceará há potencial para construção de, aproximadamente, 3.400 barragens subterrâneas. O problema central, deste estudo, é a falta de conhecimento aprofundado do grau de sustentabilidade das barragens subterrâneas do Ceará, em termos econômicos, sociais, ambientais e institucionais. Assim, o objetivo desta tese é analisar a sustentabilidade das barragens subterrâneas, do Estado do Ceará, como uma tecnologia social para convivência como semiárido. Para isto, utilizou-se o método Painel de Sustentabilidade (Dashboard of Sustainability), por dimensão e global, e o Método de Análise Hierárquica (Analytic Hierarchy Process) para identificar a alternativa de exploração de barragem subterrânea que gera maiores benefícios às comunidades. A aplicação dos questionários (pesquisa de campo), para a utilização do método Painel de Sustentabilidade, foi realizada junto a 40 agricultores, proprietários das barragens subterrâneas, localizados em 11 municípios do Estado do Ceará. A coleta dos julgamentos, para a aplicação do Método de Análise Hierárquica, aplicada junto a 11 especialistas e/ou decisores, com experiência em barragens subterrâneas. Na utilização do Painel de Sustentabilidade, que visa identificar o grau de desempenho de indicadores de desenvolvimento sustentável por indicador, por dimensão e global, foram selecionados com o auxílio da análise de componentes principais, 28 indicadores. Destes indicadores, apenas 36% alcançaram o patamar de 700 pontos, que é o limiar da sustentabilidade adotado nesta tese. Nenhuma das quatro dimensões atingiu o patamar de 700 pontos. O mais baixo desempenho ficou com a dimensão econômica, ao atingir apenas 218 pontos (necessidade de atenção severa), quando a métrica máxima desejável para o modelo é 1.000 pontos ou, no mínimo, o limiar da sustentabilidade de 700 pontos. O índice global, de desenvolvimento sustentável (IGDS) das barragens subterrâneas do Estado do Ceará, atingiu a métrica de 538 pontos, considerado um grau médio de desempenho e abaixo do limiar da sustentabilidade. A seleção das alternativas de barragens, feita pelo Método AHP, segundo o uso predominante, mostrou que a maior prioridade para investimento, a ser decidida pelo gestor público, é para a “barragem subterrânea focada na oferta de água”, seguida de perto pela “barragem subterrânea focada na produção agrícola”. A menor métrica ficou para a “barragem focada em ganhos ambientais”, com uma métrica que alcançou apenas 33% da primeira alternativa. Outra constatação relevante, que merece reflexão, foi o fato de os agricultores (análise ex-post) terem registrado um razoável desempenho dos indicadores da dimensão ambiental, enquanto os especialista e decisores (análise ex-ante) terem classificado a “barragem focada em ganhos ambientais” na terceira prioridade, com métrica igual a um terço da primeira alternativa.

L’objectif de ce travail est d’appliquer le concept d’observatoire à un système éducatif comme outil d’aide à la décision basé sur la visualisation de l’information. Pour cela, nous avons développé l’Observatoire Dynamique appliqué au Système Éducatif (ODSE) que nous avons appliqué au système éducatif camerounais.Notre démarche descriptive part du fait que pour décider, il faut comprendre et pour comprendre, il faut observer et analyser. D’une manière ou d’une autre, l’intelligence repose sur le processus d’observation. La prise de décision intervient alors après la compréhension de son environnement. Aussi, l’observation se transforme-t-elle en connaissances avec le sens donné aux choses et la détermination de ce qu’il faut faire. Or l’analyse et la compréhension de l’environnement diffèrent d’un individu à autre ; la prise de décision est alors influencée par des facteurs externes telles les pressions politiques, culturelles et/ou sociales. Sachant que c’est l’information dont on dispose orientant le processus et le choix de la résolution d’un problème décisionnel, nous avons pensé qu’il est important de disposer d’un outil qui éclaire le décideur dans le processus décisionnel pour une prise de position rapide et sans risque ou tout au moins en minimisant la part d’incertitude dans la prise de décision. Cet outil offrant la transparence dans le traitement, la clarté dans le processus de collecte et la communication de l’information et la précision dans la prise de décision qui est basée sur des informations fiables. Tel un observatoire, il sert d’instrument de veille et de pilotage à travers lequel, le décideur observe, analyse et oriente sa décision en fonction du comportement d’un ou de plusieurs indicateurs. Le résultat restitué sous une forme visuelle permet de générer des indicateurs à partir de la masse de données dont dispose le décideur.Notre travail a été guidé par le concept d’intelligence économique qui offre une méthodologie de mise en œuvre d’un processus rationnel par l’utilisation de l’information et il se situe au niveau des approches du choix satisfaisant et du processus rationnel de décision exposés par Falque et Bougon. / The aim of this work is to apply the concept of observatory in educational system as a tool for decision support based on the visualization of information. For this, we have developed the Dynamic Observatory applied to the Education System (ODSE) that we have applied to the Cameroonian educational system. Our descriptive approach is based on fact that to decide, one must understand, and to understand, we must observe and analyze. In one way or another, intelligence is based on the observation process. The decision comes after understanding its environment. Also, the observation is turned into knowledge with the given meaning to things and determining what to do. But the analysis and understanding of the environment differ from one individual to another; the decision is then influenced by external factors such as political pressures, cultural and / or social. This being the information we have for steering the process and the choice of solving a decision problem, we thought it important to have a tool that assists the decision maker in the decision process for making quick and safe decisions or at least minimizing the degree of uncertainty in decision chosen. This tool provides transparency in processing and clarity in the process of information collection. Such an observatory, it serves as an instrument for monitoring and control through which the decision-maker observes, analyzes and orients its decision based on the behavior of one or more indicators. The result returned is in a visual form to generate indicators from the mass of data available to the decision maker. Our work has been guided by the concept of competitive intelligence that provides a methodology for implementing a rational process through the use of information and it is based on the approaches of “satisfactory” choice and rational decision process from the work of Falque and Bougon.

The diploma thesis is focused on the performance evaluation of key suppliers in the terms of quality in selected cosmetic company. The aim of this thesis is to propose a solution of the assigned project task, based on short-term internship and theoretical knowledge, concerning the graphical visualization of key suppliers performance evaluation. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes basic information about management quality system, it´s principles, conceptions and tools. There is also a closer look at the importance of purchasing department and the suppliers performance evaluating methods. The practical part includes characteristics of selected cosmetic company and processes of the quality control department are described, including laboratory tests. Withing the given project, the practical part is further divided into 6 tasks. The main task involves designing a platform for a simple and effective evaluation of the key suppliers performance in terms of quality. Other sub-tasks involved the compilation of strategic suppliers, a proposal for categorizing suppliers, and for the needs of the organization, also a procedure for communication with suppliers in case the quality requirements were not met.

The net zero-energy home: Precedent and catalyst for local performance-based architecture

abstract: The building sector is responsible for consuming the largest proportional share of global material and energy resources. Some observers assert that buildings are the problem and the solution to climate change. It appears that in the United States a coherent national energy policy to encourage rapid building performance improvements is not imminent. In this environment, where many climate and ecological scientists believe we are running out of time to reverse the effects of anthropogenic climate change, a local grass-roots effort to create demonstration net zero-energy buildings (ZEB) appears necessary. This paper documents the process of designing a ZEB in a community with no existing documented ZEB precedent. The project will establish a framework for collecting design, performance, and financial data for use by architects, building scientists, and the community at large.
