Amadeus was born at Chatte Castle in Viennois (today: France, Dép. Isère); he was the son of the nobleman Amadeus of Hauterives, with whom he entered the Cistercian Abbey Bonnevaux around 1120. He was then educated in Cluny and at the court of his Swabian relative Conrad, later Conrad III King of the Romans. Around 1125, he became a monk at Clairvaux and in 1139, he was elected abbot of Hautecombe in Savoy. He later became bishop of Lausanne. A. was buried in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame of Lausanne. / Amadeus wurde auf Schloss Chatte in Viennois (heute: Frankreich, Dép. Isère) geboren; Er war der Sohn des Adligen Amadeus von Hauterives, mit dem er um 1120 in die Zisterzienserabtei Bonnevaux eintrat. Anschließend wurde er in Cluny und am Hof seines schwäbischen Verwandten Konrad, des späteren römischen Königs Konrad III., erzogen. Um 1125 wurde er Mönch in Clairvaux und 1139 zum Abt von Hautecombe in Savoyen gewählt. Später wurde er Bischof von Lausanne. A. wurde in der Kathedrale Notre-Dame von Lausanne beigesetzt.
