Determinants of contraceptive use among currently married women in Amhara and Oromiya Regions of Ethiopia

Teferi, Zeleka January 2009 (has links)
Magister Philosophiae - MPhil / The purpose of this research is to study the effect of different demographic and socio economic factors on the contraceptive use among currently married women of age 15-49 in the two regions of Ethiopia, Amhara (17,214,056) and Oromiya (27,158,471). Data are obtained from the 2005 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS). Information on contraceptive use was provided by current use 1334 (14.7), future use 4017 (52.0), unmet need for spacing 1817 (20.0) and limiting 1249 (13.3) currently married women aged 15-49 interviewed in the 2005 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS). / South Africa

Mudança temporal do aleitamento materno exclusivo na América Latina e Caribe: atualização de seus determinantes e da tendência secular / Temporal change of exclusive breastfeeding in Latin America and the Caribbean: an update of its determinants and secular trend

Bersot, Vitor Fernandes 14 September 2011 (has links)
There are few studies that assess the tendency of the pattern of EBF between countries. Objective: To analyze the temporal change of the AME in five countries in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) comparing data from 1990 and 2000 decades. Methods: The dissertation consists of a manuscript, which evaluated data from children aged 0 to 6 months in the samples of the Demographic Health Survey conducted research in Brazil, Colombia, Haiti, Peru and the Dominican Republic. Were estimated the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding and its weighted annual rates of change, according to country and survey year. The duration of EBF was estimated using survival analysis Kaplan-Meier method, considering the current age of the child as the survival time and EBF as binary variable, concerning the state of practice at the time of the interview. The survival curves were constructed for each country, in every decade, and the comparison between them used the log-rank test. The median duration of breastfeeding was calculated for each independent variable and the relationship between these variables and weaning at six months was analyzed using Cox regression model. Results: The prevalence of EBF increased in four of the five countries studied, increasing the most remarkable years in Colombia (II per cent ) and Haiti (17 per cent ). The median duration of evolution showed two trends: growth with equity in Colombia and Haiti, and stagnation with unequal distribution among the population subgroups of the last decade in Brazil, Peru and the Dominican Republic. In the multiple model of regression variables and the demographic profile of use of health services were associated with duration of EBF. The residence in a rural area was the variable consistently associated negatively in Brazil (HR = 1.68, CI 95 per cent : 1,06-2,67) and Colombia (HR = 1.39, CI 95 per cent : 1,03-1,87), while positively in Peru (HR = 0.40, CI 95 per cent : 0,19-0,83). Conclusion: The balance of the trend of EBF in LAC is positive, though not uniform throughout the two decades analyzed. The findings suggest the need for interventions for the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding taking into account the geographical location of families and provided quality health services

Paleodemography of Highland Beach the demographic parameters of a Native American population from Southeastern Florida

Unknown Date (has links)
Those who practice within the field and those who wish to discredit the field have long debated the field of paleodemography. In 1999 and again in 2000, researchers who used paleodemographic analysis assembled in Rostock, Germany to amend the present issues and change the way research is conducted in the future (Hoppa and Vaupel 2002). As a result of these meetings, researchers created the Rostock Manifesto. While many scholars accepted the change in the suite of methodologies carried out under the new guidance, little has been said on the effectiveness of the manifesto. In this thesis, I argue that the Rostock Manifesto, at the very least, is effective in changing the results of paleodemographic research both qualitatively and quantitatively. Unfortunately, due to the nature of paleodemographic research it cannot be said of how effective the manifesto is. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2015 / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Vliv lidského kapitálu a věkové struktury populace na ekonomický růst / The impact of human capital and population age structure on economic growth

Topinka, Michal January 2018 (has links)
The demographic transition led to an added productivity commonly referred to as the demographic divided, which resulted in high rates of economic growth in most of the world. The general consensus is that the increased pace of economic growth was attained largely thanks to changes in population age structure. However, the literature contains evidence that the population structure does not have a significant impact on economic growth and that improvements in education attainment have in fact been responsible for the high rates of economic growth. These claims are in contradiction with most of the literature and can have important implications for future research and policy making. Since these claims have not been, to the best of our knowledge, verified, this thesis aims to replicate the original research using newer and more suitable data for a higher number of countries. In addition to the original research, analysis is also performed on various subsamples based on governance and cultural indicators. The level and the change in education attainment did not appear statistically significant in most of the regressions, so the claims could not be proved or disproved. However, important insights about the role of not only population structure and labor force participation in explaining economic growth were...

Demografické okno a regionální analýza ekonomické aktivity v ČR / Demographic window and regional analysis of economic activity in the Czech Republic

Štech, Zbyněk January 2014 (has links)
Subject of this degree work is economic activity. This degree work shows progress of demographic characteristic and demographic behaviour, which affects economic activity citizens. In another part of degree work, issue of demographic behaviour is extended by new phenomenon demographic window. This degree work tries to prove or disprove existence of this phenomenno on region of Czech Republic. Existence of demographic window is proves or disproved by historical development of individual economic generations in region of Czech Republic and in her individual areas.Existence of demographic window is proved during historical development of Czech Republic. Demographic window is expressively opened since 1990. Its existence is proved in individual areas of Czech Republic too. Duration of its existence is affected by development of first and third economic generations in individual areas. In season of demographic window is performed analyze of rate of economic activity in Czech Republic and individual areas which is depended on demographic charakteristics. This charakteristics are age, gender and education. In the Czech Republic, we can find areas, where is distinctively higher or less rate of economic activity than in whole Czech Republic and remaining areas.
