Densifying Sockenplan is a study in density and typology. Around Sockenplan there are several planning processes and infrastructure investments going on as a part of Stockholm's master plan. The project takes a closer look at one of these plots and proposes an alternative densification strategy. How can Sockenplan be developed in a consistent way, which takes impression of the culturally and historically important surrounding areas - at the same time as it becomes an architectural entity that can stand on its own?  The goal of the project was to achieve an alternative densification principle that was equivalent to the current plan proposal developed for the site by Familjebostäder.In Stockholm City’s master plan, Enskedevägen has been identified as an oversized street, which in the long run will be narrowed down and transformed into a so-called ”Urbant Stråk”. In the long run, the aim is to have commercial activities and more buildings along this street. In practical terms, this means that the ground floors facing Enskedevägen must be higher in order to be able to house commercial businesses in the future. The project aims for an airy and open area that connects both to the "Barnrikehus"-typology and large yard blocks (Storgårdskvarter) found around Sockenplan, as well as ideas that originates from older parts of the context and the garden city. The green area south of the site is connected with Sockenvägen through a parallel informal path that runs through the new area - parallel to the urban lane ("Urbant stråk"/Enskedevägen). The area and the buildings are uniformly designed to counteract the scattered impression that so far has characterized the new development around Enskedevägen and Sockenplan. All buildings have plastered facades in earthy colors and roofs in corrugated fiber cement tiles. The aim is a cohesive and low-key area with selected decorative elements, such as canopies over entrances, stone details and window frames in wood and flower boxes that serve as railings at all balconies.
