<p>The basic concepts of batch, conversational, and incremental computing are presented along with a brief discussion on their influence on computing.</p> <p>The design and implementation consideration for the assembly language implementation of a simple incremental assembler is presented. An assembler, to accept simple assembly language programs which are scanned as they are received and assembled into machine code, has been implemented on the Hewlett Packard 2100A computer and is discussed in full detail. The assembler has been designed to execute incomplete programs such that debugging print out of registers and specified core locations is possible. The assembler also provides an editor to perform delete, insert and replace operations on user programs input to the assembler.</p> <p>The assembler is oriented for the naive user, but it assumes the user has a small knowledge of assembly language programming. VLSI design and implementation of non-linear decoder combined with linear decompressor to achieve greater test vector compressionDoddi, Srujana 26 October 2010 (has links)
This paper investigates the cost-tradeoffs of implementing a test data compression
technique previously presented in [Lee 06] which uses a small non-linear decoder combined
with a linear decompressor to achieve greater test data compressions. The non-linear decoder
is a sequential non-linear decompressor that exploits bit-wise and pattern-wise correlations in
test vectors. This paper further emphasizes the design and implementation side of the
proposed test data compressor. The linear decompressor used in this design is a Linear
Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) which after choosing the right seed has the ability to produce the
correct care bit values while filling the don’t care value bits with pseudo-random values.
Experimental results show that using the presented compression scheme here significantly
improves the overall compression. Area and power results are presented for the experiments
carried out on the given design. / text

Design and Implementation of a Solver for High-Index Differential-Algebraic EquationsZhang, Wanhe 05 1900 (has links)
<p> Systems of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) arise in numerious applications, and there has been considerable research on solving DAE initial value problems (IVPs). Existing methods and software for solving DAEs usually handle at most index-three problems. However, DAE problems of index three and higher do arise, for example, in actuator dynamics, multi-stage processes, and optimization.</p> <p> We present the method of J. Pryce and N. Nedialkov for solving DAEs, which can be of high index, fully implicit, and contain derivatives of order higher than one. We solve such DAEs by expanding their solution in Taylor series (TS). To compute Taylor coefficients, we employ J. Pryce's structural analysis and automatic differentiation. Then we compute an approximate TS solution with appropriate stepsize and project this solution to satisfy the constraints (explicit and hidden) of the problem.</p> <p> This thesis discusses the algorithms involved in this method, including the algorithms for Taylor coefficients computation, consistent point projection, error estimation, stepsize control, and the overall integration process. The author has implemented a software package named HIDAETS (High-Index DAE by Taylor Series). In this thesis, we present the specification, design, implementation, and usage of HIDAETS. Numerical results on several high-index DAEs are reported. These results demonstrate that HIDAETS is efficient and accurate for solving IVP in DAEs.</p> / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Background: The accumulating concern for environmental change has increased the need for companies to take a closer consideration to the negative impact of their operations. One effective approach to mitigate the impact is to, from the very first stages when a product is developed, analyse the environmental impact of the product’s entire lifecycle from the raw materials extruded from the ground to the disposal of the product. This type of practice is often referred to as eco-design. Unfortunately, the rate of companies implementing these practices are progressing slowly and a truly sustainable society is yet not in reach. Purpose: This study aims to investigate some of the most commonly cited obstacles in previous research. These problems can be concluded as the lack of specialized competencies, regarding the environmental impact of products in design teams. The reason this is problematic is that the practice of eco-design often requires a lot of information to be interpreted by a person with knowledge in the field. Companies have attempts to solve this issue by hiring eco-design specialists, however this often leads to difficulties in communication and disagreements with product developers. Therefore, this relationship between different stakeholders has been the second focus of the thesis. To find solutions to these problems the topic will be investigated from a knowledge management perspective. Method: To begin with, background data was reviewed to give a firm understanding of the topic and to create the basis of the theoretical framework. Later a multiple case study of two companies were performed and empirical data was gathered mainly from interviews. The empirical findings were analysed and compared to the theoretical framework in order to answer the research question. Conclusion: The results show that implementing eco-design in a company's product development can be hard in the implementation phase but when the practices are established the flow of information receives less problems. Furthermore, the hiring of professional eco-designers can be a good choice although they need to be implemented directly into the design teams.

Design and Implementation of a High-Speed Inverse Walsh Transform ApparatusMikhail, Samia R. 05 1900 (has links)
<p> In this thesis, a high-speed inverse Walsh transform apparatus was designed and built which sums over the sixteen most dominant coefficients in the time base period. The transform includes a maximum of 64 terms. The Walsh function generator used works with a clock rate up to 10 MHz to produce 64 different sequency terms with accurate timing and hazard free operation. A synchronizing pulse is produced by the circuit to determine the beginning of the Walsh transform period. The final adder stage limits the speed of the apparatus to a 1 MHz square wave. An application of the instrument was made to reconstruct one line of an actual video signal.</p> / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)
