DIFFEOMORPHISM INVARIANT COSMOLOGICAL SECTOR IN LOOP QUANTUM GRAVITY

Unknown Date (has links)
1In this dissertation we work out in detail a new proposal to define rigorously a sector of loop quantum gravity at the diffeomorphism invariant level corresponding to homogeneous and isotropic cosmologies, and propose how to compare in detail the physics of this sector with that of loop quantum cosmology. The key technical steps we have completed are (a) to formulate conditions for homogeneity and isotropy in a diffeomorphism covariant way on the classical phase space of general relativity, and (b) to translate these conditions consistently using well-understood techniques to loop quantum gravity. To impose the symmetry at the quantum level, on both the connection and its conjugate momentum, the method used necessarily has similiarities to the Gupta-Bleuler method of quantizing the electromagnetic field. Lastly, a strategy for embedding states of loop quantum cosmology into this new homogeneous isotropic sector, and using this embedding to compare the physics, is presented. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2019. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Resultados genéricos sobre entropia e dimensão de Hausdorff para difeomorfismos conservativos sobre superfícies / Generic properties about entropy and Hausdorff dimensions for area preserving diffeomorphisms of surfaces

Catalan, Thiago Aparecido 28 February 2008 (has links)
We present two generic properties of \'C POT.1\" area preserving diffeomorphisms of a two dimensional compact oriented surface. We obtain a lower bound for the topological entropy of a generic diffeomorphisms, and we show that such a diffeomorphism always has closed invariant sets with dense orbits and Hausdorff dimension two

Finalmente, argumentamos que probabilidades periódicas são maximizantes para abertos de funções na topologia lipschitziana / Abstract: In this master's thesis, we study ergodic optimization techniques in the context of an Anosov dynamical system. We present different approaches to the problem of maximization of the integral of Hölder potentials on a compact metric space in the presence of a hyperbolic dynamics. We discuss the thermodynamical formalism in an expansive model, obtaining maximizing probabilities at zero temperature. In the hyperbolic case, we determine a cohomological inequality in an amphidynamical system, from which follows a Lipschitz subaction for Lipschitz potentials associated with Anosov diffeomorphisms. Finally, we argue that periodic probabilities are maximizing for open sets of functions in the Lipschitz topology / Mestrado / Matematica / Mestre em Matemática

[en] GENERIC AUTOMORPHISMS OF HANDLEBODIES / [pt] AUTOMORFISMOS GENÉRICOS DE CUBOS COM ALÇAS

LEONARDO NAVARRO DE CARVALHO 03 October 2003 (has links)
[en] Generic automorphisms of handlebodies appear naturally in the study of isotopy classes of automophisms of orientable three-dimensional manifolds. Generic automorphisms remain as one of the least understood parts of this study. Given a generic automorphism of a handlebody one can construct a bidimensional lamination that is invariant under the automorphism. There is a growth rate associated to this lamination. It is known that, when this growth rate is minimal among all possible choices (an important property, for it measures the essential complexity of the automorphism), the lamination must have a certain incompressibility property. On this thesis we show that the process of finding a lamination with such a property is algorithmic. On the other hand, we show that this said incompressibility property is not sufficient for the minimality of the growth rate. We propose a stronger property, which we called transverse tightness, and conjecture that it is a necessary condition for the growth rate to be minimal. We prove the conjecture in some particular cases. In addition to the results mentioned above, we develop methods to generate generic automorphisms of handlebodies, which we use to present some variety of examples.
