Analýza trhu zlata a vplyv komodít na diverzifikáciu portfólia / Gold market analysis and the influence of commodities on portfolio diversification

Kováč, Jakub January 2009 (has links)
The objective of the Diploma Thesis entitled Gold market analysis and the influence of commodities on portfolio diversification is to provide an insight to commodities as an investment asset class. This goal is tackled by the first and the second chapter. The first chapter provides theoretical support for commodities as a distinct asset, whereas the second chapter is focused on investors opportunities to obtain economic exposure to commodity assets on current financial markets. When introducing the commodity products, main focus is set on the gold market. The second objective of the Diploma Thesis is to analyze the gold market and gold added value for the investors. The structure of both supply and demand for gold is analyzed. Demand and supply are identified as the main gold price drivers. The thesis confirms that the main added value of gold as an asset lies in its addition to a portfolio of capital assets. Gold significantly improves diversification of the portfolio, protects the portfolio from inflation as well as from the economic event risk. On the contrary, in comparison to capital assets gold is not an perspective stand alone investment. The last objective of the thesis is to analyze the diversification potential of commodity indexes within a portfolio context. The last chapter is devoted to this objective. The chapter introduces commodity indexes as an investible product and analyses the influence of a selected commodity index being added to a portfolio of capital assets on the efficient investment frontier. It is shown that not only is the commodity index not a good diversification tool but the investors would be better off by selling it short.

Integrace akciových trhů v období 1994-2010 / Integration of stock markets in 1994 - 2010

Rudolfová, Iva January 2010 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the interdependence of stock markets in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany and the U.S. between 1994 and 2010. Its aim is to prove or disprove the hypothesis that the correlation of stock markets is growing. Furthermore, it aims to determine whether the benefits of international diversification are important in the 21st century. The first part defines the basic terms related to this issue. The next section describes the historical development of stock markets and major stock indexes. The following is the longest chapter, which deals with the dependence of equity markets. The degree of dependence between markets is measured by correlation coefficients. In order to calculate the correlation coefficients 3 methods were used: 12-month, 24-month moving window and the exponential weighting. It was confirmed that correlation increases in periods of high market volatility and if the equity markets go up. Correlation decreases in periods of low market volatility and if the stock markets go down. There is a long-term increasing trend in the correlation development. The last chapter describes the recent study of P. Christoffersen, V. Errunza, K. Jacobs, and X. Jin, which also deals with this issue. Although the authors used more complex mathematical and statistical methods, their conclusions are similar. At the end of this chapter there is a study dealing with the benefits of international diversification in 2005 and 2009. Its conclusion is that the benefits of international diversification are disappearing.

Analýza vývoje zemědělství / Analysis of the Development of Agriculture

Jaša, Stanislav January 2011 (has links)
Agriculture has not been a mean of securing a food for nations for a long time. Today, thanks to the European union policy, the business activities of agricultural enterprises head towards to the energetics industry and to other industries like heating, forestry or services that enable the companies to diversify their activities beyond the borders of the primary sector. The reasons for a decision of extending the strategic focus of business are many: smaller dependency on weather, better market position in the relevant micro environs, more effective use of agricultural land, local energetic self-sufficiency. This thesis analyses especially the transition of the Czech agriculture from the concept of securing the food self-sufficiency of the state towards to the concept of securing energetic self-sufficiency of the state, facilitated by the renewable energy sources produces by farmers, and other development trends in the Czech agriculture in the European transnational, Czech national and local business context.

Diverzita a diverzifikace ptáků: Vedou různé procesy ke stejné patrnosti? / Bird diversity and diversification: Different processes converging to the same pattern?

Černá, Vladimíra January 2015 (has links)
Latitudinal diversity gradient is one of the oldest known trends in the distribution of life on the Earth. Scientists have been trying to find causes of its formation for more than two hundred years. There are several hypotheses suggested to explain this gradient. Recently, it is one of the main themes of discussion among ecologists and evolutionary biologists. By this Thesis, I will try to contribute to understanding of processes that generate the latitudinal diversity gradient. Particularly, I study if there is a relationship between ambient temperature and diversification rate. Is this relationship different for individual groups of animals? I choose birds as a model group. Specifically, these six families of birds: Accipitridae, Columbidae, Furnariidae, Picidae, Psittacidae and Strigidae. These groups include more than 1500 species. Each of them has the same universal gradient of diversity, with the highest diversity concentrated in the tropics. My objective was to find out, whether the universal gradients of bird's diversity had been shaped by the same historical processes. Or alternatively, whether different evolutionary trajectories had converged to the same gradients. The main outcome of my work is a discovery that some of the selected families diversified faster in warmer climates...
