從學員觀點談國防語文中心英語高級班成效研究 / A Study on Effects of English Advanced Class in Military Language Institute from Trainees’ Perspective

張杏萍, Chang, Shin Ping Unknown Date (has links)
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has grown to become one of the most prominent areas of language learning and teaching today. There have been a number of studies that have investigated the effective ESP programs requiring relevant materials, knowledgeable instructors, and teamwork with subject matter professionals but it is not easy to find out studies related to effective ESP programs in the military. To explore and analyze English Advanced Class in Military Language Institute, it expects meaningful findings to indicate whether ESP theory for trainees is appropriately and effectively well embodied in English Advanced Class. To understand trainees’ needs, factors to affect trainees and trainees’ expectation toward English Advanced Class, the quantitative analysis of the questionnaire is conducted through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and ANOVA in order to indicate the direction and relationship within variables. By analyzing data, the findings reveal that course materials and teaching style need to be considered to meet trainees’ needs before starting English Advanced Class. Also, this research identifies performances concerning about motivation, positive attitude and anxiety.

Protection of Geographical indications : to be or not to be in the EAC-EU final EPA?

Makafu, Kennedi William 30 September 2010 (has links)
The topic dealt by this study is about protection of GIs, and the problem attempted is what should be the position of the EAC regarding the protection of GIs in the final EPA negotiations with the EU? In addressing this problem, the paper hypothesised that, there are abundant potential GIs in the EAC and their protection can result to profound positive economic contribution to the region. Hence, EAC should opt for the protection of GIs in the final EPA text with the EU. Moreover, most potential GIs found in the EAC are agro-based products of which their production costs are less than EU’s GIs, because of comparative advantage in agricultural production. It follows therefore that, in addressing the said problem the paper runs as follows. Chapter one addresses historical overview of the ACP-EU relations that resulted to the current EPA’s negotiations, objectives and principles of EPA, and lastly the current status of EAC-EPA negotiations. Whereas in chapter three meaning of the term GI, Legal frameworks used to protect GIs are comprehensively examined. Also in this chapter the feasibility of EAC legal framework for protecting GIs is also explored. Chapter four addresses the economic rationale and associated benefits of protecting GIs, and the requisite conditions needed for a product to qualify GI status. Whilst chapter five addresses potential GIs found in the EAC partner states, policies and legal frameworks available to administer such potential GIs. Chapter six covers general conclusion for various findings observed by the study and provides recommendations as to which position should EAC opt, reasons for the same and also addresses possible areas for future research. Conclusively, the paper after intense observations, recommends the EAC to opt for inclusion of the GIs in the final EPA text. The reason being that, there are several economic, social and ecological benefits accrued from protecting GIs. However in the course of implementations, there are certain costs associated with changes in the newly introduced institutions, policy and legal structural reforms etc. Due to these expenses the paper recommends proper utilisation of the existing institutions to reduce administrative costs etc / Dissertation (LLM)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Centre for Human Rights / unrestricted

Analysis on EAC Application of VRV air-conditioning Systems

Su, Lun 26 June 2006 (has links)
In Green Building Evaluation Indexes, the EAC has been adapted as the central HVAC system energy consumption criteria, has been assigned an energy saving factor£\4 of 0.2, despite of the actual power consumption variations existed among various system. In this study, the PILV values of specific VRV systems were utilized, so that actual energy-saving factor £\4 can be evaluated. Furthermore, being lack of the chilled water distribution system, the weighting of power consumption percentages of a VRV system has also been changed into 0.9 vs. 0.1 for the outdoor and indoor units respectively. The methodology established in this study has been justified by suing the actual VRV projects under commercial operations, which can successfully discriminate different energy efficiencies among various systems.

Ayahuasca y auto-compasión: Un estudio cuantitativo en la Iglesia del Santo Daime en Santiago de Chile

Saavedra Medina, Carla Andrea January 2014 (has links)

Energy Savings Analysis and Full Scale Experimental Validation on VRV Air-Conditioning Systems

Ying, Jau 04 July 2007 (has links)
Keywords: EAC, full-scale experimental Validation, ABRI Lab, VRV The VRV air-conditioning system has been gaining overwhelming popularity in recent years due to its superb merits such as high energy efficiency, lower power consumption, low noise and increasing thermal comfort. During last phase of study, computer simulation using the DOE 2.1 as a tool has been performed systematically to establish a calculation equation for the EAC for Green Building Evaluation Indexes, in replacing the currently adapted fixed constant of 0.8. It is the goal of this year¡¦s project to further validate this equation by conducting a series of full-scale experiments at the ABRI Tainan Laboratory. The experimental result will be organized as a model to revise the equations established during last phase of study with good accuracy. Various different VRV systems which were commercially available on the local air-conditioning market will be adapted so that comparative study can be performed among them. The IPLV curves, which are the essential performance curve of each specific VRV system will then be obtained under local weather conditions. It is expected that through the execution of this project, the calculation equation of the VRV system to be adapted in the Green Building EAC evaluation index will be finalized and validated by the full-scale experiments. The test facilities established during this phase of study will then become the most suitable location of similar tests when building energy conservation is concerned.

The relevance of relationship benefits when entering an emerging market : a study focussing on the East African Community

Matolong, Malebo January 2013 (has links)
Business relationships have been studied as a driver for firm competitiveness through relationship marketing, but not as a strategic advantage when entering an economy. Prior research has identified several dimensions of market entry drivers from host country, home-location, sector-related as well as firm-level perspectives. This research study takes a managerial perspective and argues that relationships and their benefits are pivotal during market entry strategy formulation. It asserts that firms should alter their market entry strategies, specifically for emerging economies, taking into consideration the net gains of a client. This study used a mixed method design involving exploratory research and explanatory research. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted to make sense of the use of relationship benefits when entering the African market. An online self-administrative questionnaire was also used to gather further insights of attributes that individuals use when entering the East African Community (EAC) market. The findings revealed that institutions do stipulate the rules of the game in an emerging market. Although the research results were not conclusive regarding a wholly owned subsidiary being favoured for entry into an emerging market with stronger institutions, it was conclusive in indicating that firms still favour joint ventures into the EAC. Relationship building is time consuming and many who are given the opportunity to interact with clients still do not grasp the merits of building these relationships. This could be the reason why in general individuals still rely on social benefits like friendships; interactions beyond business relationships; sharing of information and knowledge with the client as opposed to psychological benefits. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / zkgibs2014 / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / MBA / Unrestricted

World Trade Organisation members' compliance with article XXIV of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade : The case of Tanzania

Mutasi, Victor January 2021 (has links)
WTO provides the bedrock of international trade law. Thus, it supports open and predictable trade. Regional trade arrangements have become an accepted channel for trade development, consequently, they are recognised by WTO under article XXIV of GATT and the Enabling Clause. Most RIs are brought about by regional trade arrangements. The most common forms of RI are CUs and FTAs. WTO legal framework on RTAs in CUs and FTAs with regards to trade in goods are governed by the Text of Article XXIV GATT. Tanzania has three RTAs – EAC, SADC and AfCFTA. The focus of this study is on two – EAC and SADC. Tanzania is in a multilateral preferential trade arrangement that is inconsistent with WTO requirements on RTAs. That is to say, Tanzania as a member of EAC which is a CU implies that she has to comply with WTO requirements on RTAs as provided for under article XXIV of GATT. The major being to enter into trade agreements collectively with other members of CU and not individually, since they operate as a single customs territory with a common external trade regime. However, Tanzania is both a member of a CU – EAC and a member of an FTA – SADC to the exclusion of other members of CU. WTO members are required to notify WTO upon the formation of RTAs so that the same can be examined by the Committee on RTAs. However, the Committee has enjoyed little success in assessing the consistency of the RTAs notified to WTO over the years. Therefore, functions of the Committee should be reviewed to serve as a forum for notification and provision of clarity on RTAs to WTO members on the basis of a factual presentations by WTO Secretariat. Due to multiple memberships of member states in various RECs, both EAC and SADC use RoO to determine whether goods originate from partner states in order to qualify for community preferential treatment. The administration of EAC CET faces a number of challenges including the lack of a customs authority at the regional level that would ensure uniformity in the management of CU. Another setback in the implementation of the CET is multiple memberships of member states where preferential treatment is still extended to other RECs despite a restricting provision and existence of CU, thus, eroding the gains of such union. This is brought about by problems in drafting Treaties where partner states exploit loopholes, for instance, Protocol on EACCU does not prohibit EAC member states from maintaining trade arrangements they had prior to the formation of CU or signing individual agreements thereafter such as FTAs. This became evident in the ratification of AfCFTA Agreement. / Mini Dissertation (LLM (International Trade and Investment Law in Africa))--University of Pretoria, 2021. / Charles Okehalam Scholarship / Centre for Human Rights / LLM (International Trade and Investment Law in Africa) / Unrestricted

An Investigation Concerning the Base-Generation of Four Old English Conjunct and Disjunct Adverbials within the Structure of Old English Clauses

Scot, Sky January 2009 (has links)
<p> </p><p>This paper is concerned with an investigation of four Old English adverbials with respect to where they are base-generated within the substructure of clauses which serve as examples of Old English prose. There are three structures in which base-generation of clausal constituents is deemed to occur: the CP, the IP, and the VP. Function and derivational movement are the governing factors which regulate the possibility of base-generation occurring within a particular structure. The movements undergone by clausal constituents, from their places of origin within the ‘underlying structures’ to their syntactic realization in the ‘surface structures’ of Old English clauses, are founded upon the model outlined in Johannesson<em> </em>(2009a) which is based on the tenets of Government and Binding theory. As there are no native speakers of Old English, the functions of these adverbials within their clausal environments are determined by their Modern English interpretations. Due to time and space constraints, four Old English adverbials were analysed within the context of one-hundred and twenty clauses which were extracted from The Dictionary of Old English Corpus (2004). Cases deemed to be ambiguous are addressed and classified separately; only one such case was encountered in the course of this study.</p><p>The results should exhibit proof that base-generation of the four Old English conjunct and disjunct adverbials investigated occurs within one of the aforementioned structures. Note that any conclusions drawn are based upon Modern English translations and that the results pertain to the genre of Old English prose.</p><p> </p>
