In the field of Cinema studies recent and updated studies on Swedish 1930s cinema has been absent. The aim of this thesis is to provide new insights into the period by examining the films starring actor Edvard Persson released between 1930 and 1939. In total the study analyses 17 feature films with Persson in a leading or minor role in how they portray modernity and modernisation. The focus of the research lies on certain aspects of modernity such as machines, borders, class differences, national identity, and the role of women. The goal is to shed new light on Persson’s films in the 1930s and give updated research on a period of Swedish film history that is in need of newer scholarly work.

La pintura como expresión de lo interior se ha manifestado a lo largo de la historia humana. Si bien en el siglo XX la motivación por el tema de la expresión interior se ha vuelto un criterio central en el arte esto no quiere decir que no se haya llevado a cabo en épocas anteriores. Por ejemplo, las culturas prehispánicas o los pintores de la Edad Media reflejaron la interioridad del hombre de su época en la realización de las formas, los colores, los símbolos, etc., quizá no de la manera que vemos en el siglo XX sino de manera más sutil. La expresión de lo interior se basa en fundamentos innatos a la naturaleza humana como son la individualidad, el sentimiento, las emociones, el deseo de libertad, la angustia vital y la soledad creadora. Esto se da con el contexto histórico y filosófico de cada época. A partir de esta naturaleza es que el hombre ha sentido la necesidad de expresarse: materializando su esencia; es decir permitiendo ver todo lo que lo mueve internamente. Plasma así en sus obras la percepción de la vida mediante el filtro de su interioridad. Bajo esta visión general como expresión interna del ser humano se sustenta esta investigación y el trabajo plástico que se presenta a consideración. La investigación busca definir la expresión de lo interior mediante reflexiones múltiples. Pasa revista a los fundamentos que la sostienen como búsqueda indispensable para materializar la esencia humana.

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) är en viktig nationallromantisk kompositör inom norskmusikhistoria. Den här studien belyser Edvard Griegs Violin Sonata No. 2, Op. 13. Syftet äratt nå en fördjupad förståelse för Edvard Grieg som en nationalromantisk kompositör. I minatvå frågeställningar undersöker jag vad som specifikt karakteriserar Griegs musik som”norsk" i form av hans influenser av norsk folkmusik och hans upplevelser av norsk natur.Med hjälp av instudering och interpretation, litteraturstudier samt experiment har studienssyfte uppfyllts. Resultatet av min egen musikanalys visar på flera exempel där Grieg harinspirerats av norsk folkmusik (halling och springar). Jag belyser även hans strävan attefterlikna den norska hardingfelan i violinstämmans utformning. Dessa resultat bekräftas ilitteraturstudien. Resultat gällande musikelement i sonaten som gestaltar norsk natur tyckerjag mig själv finna stöd för i min egen analys, men jag inser att jag har svårt att frigöra migfrån mina egna upplevelser från den norska naturen och dess kopplingar till Griegs musik.Litteraturstudiens resultat visar på liknande tolkningar, t ex att sonaten har en prägel av sorgoch melankoli, vilket kan tolkas som en reflektion över den norska naturens ödsliga och kargalandskap. I experimentet där 9 deltagare får lyssna på sonaten och välja bland 9 naturtypersom de tycker passar bäst till stycket. Resultatet visar på att ingen väljer den bild som visarnorsk natur (Hardangervidda) men att flera deltagare (5 av 9) väljer naturtyper som kan varaförknippat med ett nordiskt land. I diskussionen ställs frågor om hur det kommer sig attGriegs musik definierar ”ett norskt tonspråk”. Är detta på riktigt eller är det ett resultat avmänniskors konstruktioner med syftet att skapa en nationell identitet i ett politiskt landskapdär Norge strävar efter nationell självständighet från grannländernas flera hundraårigaockupation? / <p>F. This thesis deals with the available sources, organizations and form of state funerals of important political figures, which were held between the years 1948-1968. Whole thesis is divided into five separate chapters, includes also a list of sources of literature on the subject and image attachments. The first chapter deals with theoretical description of the evolution of the burial rite. The second chapter deals with the death of the personalities and its impact on the general public. The third part describes the organization of the funeral and other rituals that took place in the period between death and burial. The fourth chapter deals with its own day of the funeral, and especially the process of mourning and remembrance ceremony funeral procession. Last fifth part focuses on the development of the personality cult and other forms of worship of deceased persons. At the end of the thesis, all acquired knowledge to this issue.

This essay aims to examine whether the Swedish patron Ernest Thiel had any aesthetic influence on the contemporary art scene in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Based on a selected group of his commissioned artworks, the study analyzes to what extent Thiel was involved in the creative process. The applied method consists of Panofsky’s iconographical- iconological method, a study of primary sources and literature of art history, and a contextual analysis based on Anne D’Alleva’s theory. The chosen method shows that Ernest Thiel was not engaged in the creative process of his commissioned artworks. Correspondence between Thiel and the commissioned artist reveal that Thiel acted more as afinancial patron, leaving the aesthetics to the artist. Rather than providing his own artistic directives, the intention with his commissioned artworks suggests that his aim was to promote and encourage the artists’ own sense of style. Furthermore, this act of patronage illustrates his genuine appreciation for the artist he supported. This study also exposes the lack of knowledge of the portrait “Porträtt av Hjalmar Söderberg” and the artistry of Gerda Wallander, from whom Thiel commissioned his artwork. The study therefore suggests further research of Gerda Wallander’s artistry as well as of Ernest Thiel’s commissioned artworks, since this is uncharted territory in art history.

This thesis examines the role of Czech writer Edvard Valenta (1901-1978) in post-war Czechoslovakia journalism. The overview part of the paper tracks Valenta's texts published from 1945 to 1948 in Svobodné noviny and in magazine Dnešek. Attention is also devoted to Edvard Valenta's correspondence not only with many Czech writers, but also with his own family. Based on archival research and eyewitness accounts, this work tries to capture the life and the career of Czech journalist and writer Edvard Valenta, including his imprisonment after february 1948. The work focuses on the facts that were not known about Edvard Valenta yet, trying to organize them and to make them available for any further research or to organize them and to make them available for any further research or writing of Valenta's monography. Furthermore, the contemporary journalism situation is outlined as well as the political interventions into cultural issues. The selection part of the paper deals with the analysis of specific polemical texts among literary groups and authors with different political beliefs. The aim is to highlight the importance of Edvard Valenta in journalism field in the Third Republic and to highlight the inextricable connection of literature and journalism.
