Esta dissertação analisa a estrutura financeira das pequenas e médias empresas dos ramos de confecção, móveis e produtos alimentícios das cidades de Belo Horizonte e Contagem - MG. Foram investigados os efeitos dos seguintes fatores sobre estrutura financeira destas empresas: classificação da indústria, tamanho e idade das empresas, crescimento das vendas, rentabilidade, instabilidade das vendas, estrutura do ativo, ciclo financeiro e atitude do proprietário sobre a estrutura financeira das pequenas e médias empresas. Além da medida clássica da alavancagem financeira, utilizou-se também duas outras medidas complementares que consideraram a evolução das dívidas e a natureza dos recursos utilizados pelas pequenas e médias empresas. Nesta pesquisa, além de investigar separadamente os efeitos de cada fator, analisou-se também o efeito conjunto dos fatores sobre a estrutura financeira das pequenas e médias empresas. Como resultado principal, encontrou-se que os fatores estrutura do ativo, atitude do proprietário, instabilidade das vendas, rentabilidade e classificação da indústria apresentam conjuntamente um importante poder de predição da alavancagem financeira das pequenas e médias empresas pesquisadas. / This dissertation analyses the financial structure of medium and small companies in the area of clothing industry, furniture and food products in the cities fo Belo Horizonte and Contagem - MG. It investigated the influence of the following factors: industry classification , companies size and age, sales growth, profitability, sales instability, asset structure, financia l cycle and owner is attitude towards t he financial structure of these companies.
