This document describes a master’s research project developed at Martagão Gesteira Hospital, located in Salvador, Bahia, the first capital of Brazil. The participants were the children who liv ed at the hospital, in the UT D (T raining Unit in Deinstitutionalization) area. The study took nine months. Many changes were made during the research process. It was directly influenced by the meetings with the children, that shaped the course of the study. This explains why this qualitative research became experiential — the methodology was built during the process — and changes were made according to it, if necessary. The hospitalized child is immersed in various atmospheres, smells, presence of different persons, new soundscapes and intense feelings. Sometimes childhood is taken away from the child in this situation, who loses itself in the middle of diagnoses, medical exams, expectations and fears, moving itself far from its imaginations, from its playful thoughts, and specially from the necessity it's body has to play. Therefore, the goals of this research were especially the reconnection of the child with it's own childhood through music, sounds, and other art languages. During the research process some activities were developed to connect the child with its body and creativity, especially synesthetic, sensorial and artistic (multilingual) games. Everything was made through music, through sounds and through compositions created instantaneously, especially for the moment, for what was happening at that time. Music became medicine. Bonds were built from the sound and affection, providing an environment of trust and exchange, what made this investigation reach important reflections of what was being done, and specially to create a safe and pleasant place for the kids to express themselves. The majority of the children at this area in the hospital had almost no verbal expression, caused by tracheostomy or sequel of a disease. The necessity to express themselves became clear as soon as the study begun. So, many body grammars have been developed over these meetings, making clear the possibility and the need to improve and expand other ways of communication.
