Dessa forma, o romance se firmou em meio a mudanças sociais, políticas e econômicas. Este estudo objetiva analisar o romance Fabiola, publicado em 1865, no formato folhetim no periódico A Estrella do Norte (1863-1869), folha católica que publicou suas notícias sob os auspícios de Dom Macedo Costa (1830-1891). Para efetuarmos o objetivo deste trabalho, trataremos sobre a ascensão e consolidação do gênero no primeiro capítulo, fazendo uma espécie de contraponto entre a leitura de Fabiola e outros romances que tiveram destaque durante o século XVIII e XIX. Demonstraremos também, no segundo capítulo, como foi no século XIX a recepção do romance em terras paraenses, sobretudo a partir da ótica do editor do periódico, Dom Macedo Costa. No terceiro capítulo, analisaremos as personagens femininas do romance econferir como essas categorias se manifestaram na obra. O contexto histórico no qual esse romance foi publicado, será também descrito, assim buscamos determinar sua influência, no que envolve a escolha de tal publicação pelos editores do periódico religioso paraense. / Although it achieved its greatest projection in the nineteenth century, the novel genre already stood out in the Europe’s eighteenth century literary horizon and underwent through major transformations. This way, the romance established itself amidst social, political and economic changes. This study aims to analyze the romance Fabiola, published in 1865, in the form of a booklet in the periodical A Estrella do Norte (1863-1869), a catholic newspaper that published its news under the supervision of Dom Macedo Costa (1830-1891). To achieve the objective of this work, we will discuss the rise and consolidation of the genre in the first chapter, making a counterpoint between the reading of Fabiola and other novels that stood out during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. We will also demonstrate, in the second chapter, how the reception of the novel in nineteenth century’s Pará, especially from the perspective of the editor of the periodical, Dom Macedo Costa. In the third chapter, we will analyze the female characters of the novel and see how these categories manifested themselves in the literary work. The historical context in which Fabiola was published will also be described, as a way to try to determine its influence, in what it involves the choice of such publication by the publishers of Pará’s religious journal
