A poética de Domingos Pellegrini: leitura de As sete pragas / The poetics of Domingos Pellegrini: reading of As sete pragas

Alessandra Lacerda da Silva 07 October 2016 (has links)
The following essay aims to present a study about the author Domingos Pellegrini and his poetics in the context of the 1970s literature in Brazil. Part of the research purpose is to raise and analyze the language construction of his work, the literary devices used and themes chosen by the author. For this, the focus is on the book As sete pragas (1979) and, through the use of literary theory based on concepts elaborated mainly by Antonio Candido to help analyze the short stories and nouvelles in the book. It thereby seeks to systematize the poetics of the author and, at the same time, present him as a literary writer of the 1970s. Besides the introduction, the research is organized into three chapters corresponding to the main themes. The book is organized by a division of genres, three short stories and three nouvelles, and this work reorganizes these narratives into two groups based on these themes: the first is about the power configuration of the female character in As sete pragas; the second, on other power relations, configured through the space occupied by men in the course of the narratives as a symbolic representation of the late capitalist system in Brazil; and finally, the third presents a comment about two moments of the author\'s work (1979 and 2007), by making reference to the interview for this thesis, which is reproduced in the Annex. The following essay aims to present a study about the author Domingos Pellegrini and his poetics in the context of the 1970s literature in Brazil.

January 2011 (has links)
The genesis of this work is to demarcate the area of the writer Nélida Piñon in the female authorship literature reflecting about the access roads that were opened when the author retook one of the most well-known and mythical character of the Universal Literature - Scherezade - in the novel Voices of the Desert (2004). So, this study allowed to realize a more accurate reflection about this character's construction from the perspective of feminist criticism (SHOWALTER, 1994) bringing out the feminine condition in a hegemonic system, coercity and patriarchal that legitimizes the power situations, submission, oppression and violence against women. Therefore, this work is an invitation to know Nélida Piñon's contribution in contemporary evolution and women's emancipation awareness who dared to transgress the boundaries of time and space to promote their visibility, independence, freedom and recognition as a subject of the history. These aspects allow to gaze on the three phases: feminine, feminist and female of the Women's literature established by Elaine Showalter. Although this novel has been little researched by Brazilian criticism yet, it is also important to the gynocritical studies because the gynocriticism speech is a critical and specialized speech about texts written by women. So, this dissertation intends to enhance (value) the female who stars not only the history but makes possible the rise of her own destiny in the world. To conclude, the writer is outstanding name for the Brazilian Literary Universe and she demonstrates a deep knowledge about women's history and, therefore, attentive and compromised with the current social political and cultural Brazilian scenery / Mestre

No. of bitstreams: 1 Davi da Silva Oliveira.pdf: 616102 bytes, checksum: d4171733bdfc3d328dcbe6305de689ee (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-10-06 / Centro Universitário Adventista / In this dissertation, an analysis was carried out concerning the speeches of silence performed by women characters in the novel Memorial do Convento, written by José Saramago. The characters are: D. Maria Ana Josefa, Sebastiana de Jesus and Blimunda de Jesus. The inductive methodology was used, starting from the particular premises while we observed the incidences of the discourse of silence in the corpus, with the purpose of reaching another premise, which is the identification and characterization of this phenomenon in the literary discourse. The research has a qualitative and phenomenological nature, since we believe that the knowledge of the problem is the result of the vision we have about what is perceived: the speech of silence of the characters. This perception reveals us that the absence of voices does not mean a gap in the saying, taking into account that the silence of women has a meaning. The silence of characters is one recorded by the author and has a resounding of the story as a determining ingredient for the behavior of such characters. Therefore, the construction of the saying of the silence has a structure based on the conception the society had regarding women and witches. In order to cover the problem thoroughly, our starting point was a careful reading of the novel, looking at the behavior of the characters under consideration, considering not only the historical and social circumstances that impacted the women of the 18th century, period covered by the narrator, but also the lines of literary discourse in the novel. For the theoretical underpinning of this study, we researched intensively the postulates of the Literary Theory about novels related to History and Fiction, focusing mainly on the concepts of characters and narrator / Nesta Dissertação, fizemos uma análise das falas do silêncio das personagens femininas do romance Memorial do Convento de José Saramago: D. Maria Ana Josefa, Sebastiana de Jesus e Blimunda de Jesus.

Söderlund, Alexandra January 2019 (has links)
Computer and video games have taken the world by storm, since their creation the interest for these games has increased and approximately 62% of the Swedish population now plays computer or video games. A game character is of tremendous importance in a game and plays a central part in the whole game, however, the portrayal of these characters are often unrealistic. The female characters, however few, are often portrayed as oversexualized or subjugated as sexual objects. In this paper, a research is made studying the game experience from women’s point of view, trying to clarify how women are affected by the game characters they are offered in these games and how they are affected by them. The method used to investigate the thesis in this study is a qualitative study where a focus group consisting of ten female gamers are interviewed. The data collected in this study is the responses from the interviews. The central parts of their answers will be the topics in the results and discussion. The results show that game characters and how they are portrayed as well as how the game is designed affects the gamers greatly.

A Religião e o Papel da Mulher na Desestabilização e Humanização do Discurso Judaico-Cristão em duas Obras de José Saramago: O Evangelho Segundo Jesus Cristo e Caim

Santiago, Camila C 20 October 2021 (has links)
It is intrinsic to modernity the expansion of the philosophical detachment from the religious view as critical reason takes place in science, art and the worldview of modern man. Through Kant's reflections, in The Religion within the limits of reason alone (1793), we will seek to understand this process of rupture between faith and reason which explains the prevailing thought in postmodernity. We chose the renowned writer, José Saramago, and his works of religious nature as our objects of study, The Gospel According to Jesus Christ (1991) and Cain (2009), as they represent, in the Portuguese language, the voice of the man who is still attracted by the literature of literatures – composed by the Pentateuch and the other canonical books. The author wishes to understand, question and to find the contradictions in believing in an absent, flawed and guilty God. Instigated by the importance in which the "Marys" are portrayed in the Apocryphal Gospels, and to further condemn this God, Saramago recreates in his parodies, a postmodern and anti-religious gospel whose eroticized reinvention of the biblical women - the "Marys", Eve and Lilith - results in the demystification and humanization of the characters and the destabilization of patriarchal discourse. Thus, before analyzing the creation of a new myth of women and their role in Saramago, we will study what was postulated by the feminist theorists, Simone de Beauvoir (2016) and Luce Irigaray (2017), which determine the place of the woman as the "Other", by an exclusionary monologic language that puts her at the service of the elaboration of the universalizing male, which also occurs in the saaramguian language.

“I, a woman will fight them for you.” : An intersectional analysis of Lady Zhurong, the only woman to lead an army into battle in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms / 「

Hinderson, Stina January 2023 (has links)
Beside the innumerable male characters in the Chinese classic, The Romance of The Three Kingdoms, there is one female general: Lady Zhurong This thesis addresses the research gap in studying the unique case of Lady Zhurong, the only woman in the novel that leads an army in battle. By using a qualitative method, the thesis investigates how Lady Zhurong’s portrayal is influenced by her gender. An intersectional theory is used to contextualize how her ethnicity as Nanman (南蛮) and her social status intersects with her gender. Furthermore, it compares her to how other minor male generals are portrayed. The analysis finds that Lady Zhurong’s character should be understood from the context of her ethnic background and the overall negative portrayal of the Nanman. Nevertheless, as suggested in the story through the description of the Nanman, some gender norms differ between them and the Chinese society of the time. This enables her to have more autonomy than other women which in turn enables her to fight on the battlefield and lead an army. Despite the general negative depiction of the Nanman, Lady Zhurong’s portrayal, performance, and the expectations of her as a general is equivalent to that of the male generals in the story. Compared to other Nanman generals she even outperforms them. However, her character should not be understood as merely an emasculation of the other Nanman-generals. Lady Zhurong has agency, and the findings can contribute to our wider understanding of women’s multifaceted roles in traditional Chinese society.

Femmes écrivains et représentation du féminin dans le “ Romance de 30 ” au Brésil / Female Writers and the Representation of Women in Brazil’s “ Romance de 30 ” / Mulheres escritoras e representação do feminino no « Romance de 30 » no Brasil

Manera, Giulia 02 December 2016 (has links)
The 1930’s represent a fundamental period in the development of Brazil’s culture and identity, as a time during which the social function of literature, specifically the novel, and the role of the author as the “living conscience” of the country are found and problematicized. However, in the majority of stories, anthologies, and literary manuals, not one female author’s name is found among the canonic authors of the period, with the exception of Rachel de Queiroz. The analysis of sources from the era demonstrate that, on the contrary, female authors such as Lúcia Benedetti, Jenny Pimentel de Borba, Làsinha Luís Carlos de Caldas Brito, Maria José Dupré, Ondina Ferreira, Emi Bulhões Carvalho Fonseca, Ignez Mariz, Carolina Nabuco, Lúcia Miguel Pereira, Dinah Silveira de Queiroz, Tetrá de Teffé and many others were published, read, and appreciated by the critic and the public. Following the examination of the historical and literary context of these writings, as well as their reception and editorial aspects, the mechanisms which allowed for their deletion from memory are dismantled, explaining the lack of integration of these writings in the Brazilian literary tradition. Reading and analyzing the representations of these female authors’ novels allows for the expansion of the discourse on the participation of women in the literary and social era of the 1930’s and 1940’s. The characters, notably the female ones, which populate these works are an ideal subject for the analysis of phenomena of identity which characterize this historical time period, along with their contradictions.

PICCOLE DONNE CRESCONO: STORIE AL FEMMINILE DALLA LETTERATURA PER L'INFANZIA ALLA SERIALITA' TELEVISIVA. TRE CASE STUDIES / Little Women Grow Up: Female Stories from Children's Literature to Television Series. Three Case Studies.

FORNASARI, ELEONORA CLAUDIA MIRELLA 29 May 2018 (has links)
This PhD dissertation investigates the adaptations from children's novels into television series, with a focus on three character-driven stories: Heidi, Pippi Longstockings and The Story of Tracy Beaker. Starting from the original novels, investigated mostly from the point of view of the female protagonist, the study then analyses the corresponding television adaptations, whether animated or live action, through a methodology that has its theoretical basis both in the aesthetics of children's literature and in the screenwriting theories. Nowadays, the audiovisual market and therefore the public are changing rapidly, making it necessary to update the thematic and the stylistic features of the original works from which the adaptations are drawn. Actually, adaptation is often a compromise between the contemporary market demand and the fidelity to the content, necessary to fulfil the expectations of the target audience. Surprisingly, there is a scarcity of critical literature on children's television adaptations, even if they represent a very rich topic as they raise specific issues both on the adaptation process itself and on serialisation. The present work, therefore, aims to fill the existing gap in the field of children's adaptations, placing itself where two critical areas, literature and media, meet. Consequently, the primary narrative approach intersects with studies on adaptation and audiovisual industry.
