Teacher technology competencies: Florida secondary principals' assessment skills and competencies requisite for successful practice

Cullum, John T. 01 January 2000 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the technology skills that principals perceived as essential for newly hired teachers. The study used a mailed survey to explore three technology constructs in order to determine which skills principals deemed important, how they evaluated those skills after teachers were hired, and which technology skills principals felt colleges of education should be teaching prospective teachers. The technology constructs examined were basic computer and technology operations and concepts, the personal and professional use of technology, and the application of technology in instruction. The study also examined whether principals who perceived themselves as technologically advanced also preferred to hire teachers at a similar level of expertise and whether principals who took the Florida Educational Leadership Examination, which included a technology domain, preferred teachers who were talented in the uses of technology. The findings of the study revealed that most principals, regardless of their own level of expertise or whether or not they took the FELE, are very aware of the instructional benefits of technology and that they perceive the basic, professional, and instructional uses of technology to be essential skills for teachers to possess.

The impact of technical barriers on the effectiveness of professional development as related to a distance education system-based course: A case study in the Web World Wonders environmental science learning community.

Dawson, John L. 12 1900 (has links)
This study reports and discusses the impact of technical barriers on the effectiveness of professional development as related to a distance education system based course: a case study of the web world wonders environmental science learning community in Florida. The project involved 4th through 12th grade public school teachers learning how to use GPS readers, digital cameras, and Arc View software for the purpose of utilizing a Website that enabled remote Internet camera access in Florida State Parks. Under the supervision of Florida State University and the Florida Department of Education those teachers received professional development in techniques for developing lesson plans utilizing the equipment and software as stated above. Using the Concept Based Adoption Model, a description of the teacher's demographics, Levels of Use and Stages of Concern with relation to gender, age, teaching experience, and technological experience was examined. Technical barriers were identified and an explanation of how they were overcome in the process of receiving the professional development is reported.

The Young Child's Self-Concept: Factors which Influence Positive Development

Finley, Julie Hofheimer, McPherson, Geraldine Pryor 01 January 1975 (has links)
The fundamental question proposed in this study was: can treatment, in the form of prescribed teacher behavior, classroom atmosphere and experiences affect a positive change in the growth and development of the young child's self-concept. The secondary area questioned the extent to which the parent's self-concept score correlates to that of the child. Based upon the assumption that adult and child self -concept can be measured, the I See Me Scale was constructed and utilized with children as a pre- and postassessment and the How I See Myself Scale was used to measure parent self -concept. Thus, it was hypothesized that: 1) there will be no statistically significant difference between the mean gain scores of the two groups of children after treatment; and 2) that there will be no statistically significant correlation between parent and child self-concept scores.

Use of the Bell Adjustment Inventory as a counseling tool at FSU

Unknown Date (has links)
"This study is designed to determine if the Bell Adjustment Inventory is a more accurate device than the Minnesota Personality Scale for measuring adjustment of college freshmen. If the Bell Inventory correlates more highly than the Minnesota Personality Scale with a majority of the scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, it would indicate that the Bell Inventory measures poor adjustment resulting from personality problems as measured by the MMPI more accurately than does the Minnesota Personality Scale"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1955." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Includes bibliographical references (leaf 18).

Selected Florida educators' reactions to multi-level reading laboratory materials

Unknown Date (has links)
"The purpose of this study is to compile useful information regarding the merits of a specific kind of multi-level reading program. Another purpose in this study is to ascertain, insofar as is possible, the reaction of both educators and students to such a program. The scope of the study encompasses two major areas: (1) an historical approach, consisting of a review of the literature in the entire field of multi-level reading materials, (2) an evaluation, through the use of an opinionnaire, which was sent to Florida educators who have used the materials"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "June, 1961." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Mildred Swearingen, Professor Directing Study. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 51-53).
