Adensamento e forma urbana: inserção de parâmetros ambientais no processo de projeto / Densification and Urban Form: insertion of environmental parameters in the design process

A presente pesquisa parte do problema que o crescimento e o adensamento urbano são inevitáveis e que vêm causando diversos danos ao meio natural e à qualidade ambiental das cidades. Diante disso, visando minimizar os impactos gerados pelo processo de urbanização, com base na idéia de que o adensamento urbano pode ser positivo para a construção de cidades mais sustentáveis, o trabalho parte da necessidade da inserção da camada meio ambiente no processo de projeto urbano. Além disso, todas as outras camadas (usos, estoque construído, redes de infraestrutura, etc) também devem ser analisadas sob o enfoque ambiental. Para isso, o trabalho apresenta como objetivo geral a elaboração de um método para inserção de fatores ambientais relacionados ao adensamento e a forma urbana no processo de projeto. Esta pesquisa foi desenvolvida em três distintos momentos: um primeiro de fundamentação teórica e construção de conceitos; um segundo momento de análise e avaliação de projetos urbanos contemporâneos sob os aspectos da sustentabilidade ambiental e; um terceiro momento de síntese e proposição da incorporação de parte da camada meio ambiente no processo de projeto urbano. Durante o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, verificou-se que, de fato, os projetos que apresentaram uma preocupação explícita com as questões ambientais, por parte dos projetistas, obtiveram melhores resultados, na avaliação com relação à sustentabilidade urbana, como, por exemplo, os ecobairros presentes na Europa. Além disso, foi concluído que não existem soluções únicas, cada sitio e cada projeto necessita de medidas específicas relacionadas às suas características próprias. Da mesma maneira que não existe um método de projeto universal, já que esse é definido diante dos problemas e potencialidades apresentados. Porém são necessárias a definição e adoção de parâmetros e regras que orientem o processo de projeto que visa à sustentabilidade ambiental, atendimento às exigências humanas e produzindo espaços urbanos de qualidade com o mínimo impacto ao meio natural. / This research is based on the assumption that urban growth and densification are inevitable and have been causing damage to the natural environment and the environmental quality of cities. With the objective of minimize the impacts caused by the urbanization processes and assuming that urban densification can be positive to the achievement of more sustainable cities, the research introduces the environmental layer in the process of developing urban projects. Furthermore, all the other fundamental layers (use, building stock, infrastructure, etc) should also be accessed through the environmental perspective. In order to do that, the general objective of this work is the definition of a method for the insertion of environmental factors related to the densification and urban form in the design process of the built environment. This research was carried out in three phases: the first one is about the formulation of the theoretical background including the definition of key concepts; a second phase of analysis of contemporary urban projects approaching environmental and sustainable aspects and; the third phase of synthesis and proposition to include a key part of the environmental layer in the design process of the built environment. During the development of the research, it was verified that the case study projects which express a clear concern with environmental issues from the designers perspective got better overall results in the assessment of urban sustainability, such as the eco-neighborhoods in Europe. Besides, it was concluded that there are no unique solutions, each place and project needs specific measures related to its own features. In the same token, there is not one unique method or universal project, once this is defined by the local problems, challenges and potentialities. However, it is necessary the definition and adoption of design rules which can direct the design process towards environmental sustainability, peoples expectations and urban spaces with quality and the reduced environmental impact.

The influence of landmarks and urban form on cognitive maps using virtual reality

We are a species driven to mark the land with symbolic structures and craft meaning in our built environments. From ancient wonders such as Stonehenge to modern icons like the St. Louis Arch, we have been designing landmarks since the dawn of civilization. Cities, towns, and neighborhoods incorporate landmarks as elements of cultural expression and tools for navigation. Individuals use landmarks as reference points to create an internal cognitive map, permitting more efficient navigation throughout a city and contributing to a heightened sense of place. To aid in research regarding the role of landmarks on cognitive maps and place-identity, we have designed a novel testing paradigm in which subjects wear a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) and traverse a hypothetical urban environment using a gaming controller. The virtual environment (VE) features a gridded street network measuring 5x5 blocks and guides subjects along a fixed route through residential, park, commercial and industrial districts. Along this fixed route, subjects are exposed to ten distinct landmarks. After navigating the VE, subjects are tasked with delineating their perceived route, landmark locations, and district boundaries through map drawing tasks on grid paper as well as a scene recognition task. The most significant finding revealed landmark configuration accuracy to be highly correlated with performance on the route recall and moderately correlated with performance on the scene recognition task. This suggests that, regardless of the landmark type, individuals who more precisely recalled landmark locations also navigated the route and identified scenes more accurately. Landscape and urban planners can leverage these findings to advocate for the strategic inclusion of landmarks throughout an urban fabric, which we term Landmark Configuration Plans (LCP).

A imagem : um ponto de partida para o processo composicional

O presente memorial apresenta uma reflexão teórica sobre a utilização da imagem como ponto de partida da organização estrutural e formal do processo composicional. A primeira parte apresenta as referências musicais e as motivações estéticas com as quais dialogo e que impactaram minha composição. A segunda parte consiste em um referente teórico, o qual se centra na análise da importância da imagem nos processos criativos, citando autores como Salles (2011) e Ostrower (2013); por outra parte, sintetiza casos de compositores cujos processos criativos foram mediados pela imagem e empregaram possibilidades de utilização da imagem como orientadora ao longo do percurso criativo. Finalmente, apresento as composições: Fantasia Bolerosa (2012), Quya-Killa (2012), Um Olhar no passado (2013), objeto principal de reflexão e análise, sob os conceitos de repetição e reiteração, Ferraz (1998). O resultado deste trabalho demonstra que a utilização da imagem é uma ferramenta que pode complementar a metodologia composicional na criação de peças como as que integram este memorial de composição. / The memorial gift provides a theoretical reflection on the use of the image as a starting point in the structural organization and the formal compositional process. The first part presents the musical references and aesthetic motivations with which dialogue and that somehow influenced my composition. The second part consists of a theoretical framework which focuses on analyzing the importance of image in creative processes, citing authors such as Salles (2011) and Ostrower (2013), for other instances synthesizes part of composers, whose processes were mediated by creative image and who employed possibilities of using image as a guideline along the creative path. Finally I present the compositions: Fantasia Bolerosa (2012), Quya- Killa (2012), Um Olhar no passado (2013), the main object of reflection and analysis. The result of this study shows that the use of the image is a tool that can complement the compositional methodology in creating pieces as that integrate this memorial composition.

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo a análise de alterações na forma de objetos resultantes da produção artesanal têxtil no Brasil, a partir da década de 1970, em correlação a mudanças nos respectivos contextos socioculturais, como as que se referem ao campo do design. Os procedimentos metodológicos foram baseados em abordagem qualitativa com viés histórico, realizada por meio de coleta bibliográfica, iconográfica e de campo. Abordou-se o artesanato têxtil como bem cultural representativo da produção de artefatos na sociedade brasileira. A partir de meados do século XX, contextos socioculturais e objetos resultantes desse ofício passaram por transformações condizentes com os interesses de consumidores de centros urbanos relativos ao artesanato. Nesse cenário, instituições e profissionais apresentaram projetos cujas abordagens transitam entre a manutenção de aspectos que caracterizam a tradição artesanal e a mudança dos objetos artesanais, para maior aceitação mercadológica. Por fim, debateu-se a necessidade de designers que atuam no setor avaliarem esses objetos, não apenas por sua destinação comercial, mas também como manifestação da cultura, do meio e das relações estabelecidas por artesãs e artesãos com seu ofício / The purpose of this study was to analyse the changes in the form of objects resulting from the Brazilian textile production of arts and crafts, since the 1970s, in correlation with the changes in the respective sociocultural environments, such as the ones related to design. The methodological procedures were based on qualitative approach with a history bias, carried on by means of bibliographic, iconographic and field research. Textile handicraft was addressed as cultural property representative of the Brazilian production of arts and crafts. Sociocultural environments and objects resulting from craftsmanship underwent transformations, since the middle of the 20th century, in accordance with the interests of urban consumers of arts and crafts. In this scenario, organizations and professionals presented projects whose approaches move between the maintenance of the characteristic features of craft tradition and the change in handcrafted objects, to make them acceptable by the market. Finally, it was discussed the need of an evaluation of such objects by the designers who work in the sector, not only due to their commercial purpose, but also as an expression of the culture, the environment and the relationships established between the artisans and their craft

Apresento um conjunto de figuras - construídas através do desenho, fotografia e gravura- que movem um imaginário de seres e lugares, em trânsito entre o olhar, a memória e o sonho. A forma é proposta em sua materialidade e em correspondência a seus referentes. O enfrentamento de questões técnicas e poéticas está presente necessariamente na realização de cada trabalho e no trânsito entre eles. Da necessidade de invenção das figuras operam o entendimento e as ações em sua construção. O estudo e experimentação dos meios empregados no trabalho constituem-se nesse escopo. Proponho que toda manifestação se singularize e abra-se ao cotejamento, no tempo, entre diversas manifestações. Nesse sentido, permeiam-se as figuras, os meios construtivos e seu imaginário. Imaginar e figurar como sentimento e ação em si e no mundo. / I present a body of artwork - build through drawing, photography and printmaking -that move an imagery of beings and places in transit between the perception, the memory and the dream. The form is proposed in its materiality and in correlation to its referents. The confrontation between technical and poetic matters is necessarily present in the making of each work and the movement among them. It is from the need for the invention of each piece of work that the understanding and the actions through the construction work. The study and experimentation with the media applied in the process are within the scope of this work. I propose that each manifestation is singled out and then cross analyzed, in time, with the other manifestations. This way each work permeates imagination and media. Imagining and figuring as feeling and action in itself and the world.

En tant qu'accroissement de la valeur d'une chose, la plus-value est une richesse nouvelle particulièrement convoitée lorsque sa production résulte du non­propriétaire de la chose. Résoudre le conflit entre le propriétaire de la chose et l'auteur de la plus-value suppose de la situer par rapport à la chose pour pouvoir définir sa maîtrise. L'étude répond à cette problématique en menant d'abord une analyse de la présence de la plus-value. La plus-value semble dans une situation ambivalente puisqu'elle apparaît attachée à la chose tout en lui étant distincte. Cette situation ambivalente de la plus-value devait être prise en compte pour la définir à partir d'une analyse civile et fiscale. La naissance d’une plus-value a également été examinée en procédant à une relecture systématique des facteurs qui la produisent. Sur cette base, l'ouvrage propose ensuite de déterminer les modalités de maîtrise de la plus-value. La dépendance de la plus-value envers la chose implique de l'appréhender par la médiation de la chose. Cette forme de maîtrise d'une plus-value n'est pas sans générer des difficultés puisqu'elle nécessite de saisir la chose. Sans autre examen, on aperçoit immédiatement que cette solution est susceptible d'enrichir le propriétaire du bien dont la chose bénéficie d'une plus-value produite par un tiers. Cette difficulté a été dépassée à partir d'une étude du rapport entre la plus-value et la monnaie, pour ensuite envisager l'existence d'une indemnité de plus-value au profit de son auteur. / The capital gain is a new form of wealth, especially coveted when the production results from someone other than the owner of the object itself. To salve the conflict between the owner of the object and the originator of the capital gain one has to situate that capital gain in law to define its control. The study answers to this issue by firstly analyzing the presence of the capital gain. The capital gain has been identified as a distinct entity from the object, to which it is however attached. This ambivalent situation of the capital gain has to be considered when defining its consistence based on a civil and fiscal analysis. The origin of a capital gain has also been examined in proceeding with a systematic re-reading of its repository and the factors who produce it. Based on this, the following work proposes to determine the control of the capital gain. To understand the dependence of the capital gain towards the abject, you have to look at it through the mediation of the object. This form of contract of capital gain doesn't come without difficulties, since you have to grasp the object. Without other examination, we can immediately see that this solution might enrich the owner of the property, of which the abject benefits from a capital gain, produced by a third party. This difficulty was surpassed based on a study on the connection between the capital gain and monetary units. By considering the capital gain in the quantity of monetary units corresponding, it was proposed to control the capital gain in a monetary form. This particular way of control opens stimulating perspectives since it has then been indemnity of capital gain in favor of its originator.

Esta dissertação trata da questão do significado da música segundo a filosofia da arte de G. W. F. Hegel e as problematizações musicológicas de E. Hanslick, tendo como principal objetivo apresentar o modo como cada autor tratou desse tema, mas apontando alguns aspectos referentes à maneira como Hanslick dialogou com Hegel, e que estariam diretamente vinculados a uma transformação do modo de conceber a música autônoma instrumental, principalmente no que se refere ao significado da forma musical, em função da maneira como cada autor concebeu sua relação com o conteúdo tendo em vista que Hegel se posicionou como filósofo da arte e Hanslick como musicólogo. O cerne do trabalho está fundamentado na análise do capítulo referente à música dos Cursos de Estética, de Hegel, e na análise de Do Belo Musical, de Hanslick, assim como no repertório musical a que cada autor esteve exposto. / This dissertation deals with the question of the meaning of music according to the philosophy of art of G. W. F. Hegel and the musicological problematizations of E. Hanslick. The main objective is to present the way in which each author deals with this theme, but pointing out some aspects referring to the way Hanslick dialogued with the Hegelian aesthetics and that would be directly linked to a transformation of the way of conceiving autonomous instrumental music, especially with regard to the meaning of the musical form, in function of the way each author conceived its relation with the content, in view of the fact that Hegel was a philosopher of art and Hanslick a musicologist. The core of this work is based on the analysis of the chapter on music of Hegel\'s Lectures on Aesthetics and Hanslick\'s essay On the Musically Beautiful, as well as on the musical repertoire that both authors were exposed to.

Este projeto de tese analisa como o método do ciclo de counterbalance, articulado por Lyster (2007), pode influenciar no aumento da precisão da língua dos alunos nos programas de imersão. O objetivo do projeto foi descobrir como tal modelo de lições e atividades pode vir a afetar a precisão dos alunos no uso da língua portuguesa, focando principalmente na concordância nominal e verbal. O projeto foi implementado para duas turmas de imersão de português da 4a série em um programa de imersão no estado de Utah. As descobertas revelam diferenças significativamente relevantes entre a avaliação previa e final no desempenho dos alunos e trazem implicações pedagógicas em relação ao método aplicado, embora, na ausência de um grupo de controle, os resultados devem ser interpretados com cautela.
