Comprehensive Management model for increasing the competitiveness of small and medium artisan jewelry enterprises in Peru

Mejia-Pajuelo, K., Solis-Galdos, K., Mauricio-Sanchez, D., Raymundo-Ibañez, C., Perez, M. 06 April 2020 (has links)
Today, many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) either go out of business or see their growth being stalled due to poor activity management and organization, which is why they are often unprepared to engage against large companies leading their competitive markets. This study aims to develop a comprehensive management model, exclusively designed for SMEs in the jewellery sector, which may encompass all areas that create value and make them competitive. The development of this comprehensive management model was deployed in 21 steps classified into three tiers based on three major philosophies. This study uses lean manufacturing to identify activities that add value and reduce waste, and lean green was used to provide the environmental care and culture approach required for a friendly and fair workplace environment. The selected scenario is a jewelry workshop, wherein techniques and tools were completely applied and yielded a 20% increase in operating performance and a 15% increase in annual return.

Role of technological dimensions of green supply chain management practices on firm performance

Bag, S., Gupta, S., Kumar, S., Sivarajah, Uthayasankar 07 April 2020 (has links)
yes / Purpose The research study aims to investigate green supply chain management (GSCM) elements as part of a complete system. It aims to understand the special properties of the GSCM system under the moderating effects of product complexity and purchasing structure. Design/methodology/approach A thorough literature review led to the building of the conceptual framework. Six constructs were identified using systems theory. These constructs include green supply chain technological dimensions (particularly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) based), green supply chain strategy, green supply chain process, product complexity, purchasing structure, and firm performance. The instrument was scientifically developed for gathering survey responses using complete design test methods. The conceptual model was eventually tested based on survey data collected from 250 automotive components and allied manufacturers in the emerging economy of South Africa. Findings The results indicate that GSCM technological dimensions (AI-based) positively influence GSCM strategy. Further, GSCM strategy was found to positively influence the GSCM process. The GSCM processes have significant effects on environmental performance, social performance, and financial performance. The product complexity has a significant moderation effect on the paths GSCM strategy and GSCM process. Originality/value The findings from multivariate data analysis provide a better understanding of GSCM system dynamics and are helpful to key decision-makers. This unique model has elevated GSCM theory to a new level. There are limited studies available in the existing GSCM literature using systems theory. This study will offer an advanced/comprehensive understanding to readers in this relatively new concept.

Adoção de práticas de Green Supply Chain Management e desempenho ambiental: um estudo em micro, pequenas e médias empresas da indústria sucroenergética brasileira / Adoption of green supply chain management practices and environmental performance: a research about small and medium enterprises in the Brazilian sugarcane industry

Stefanelli, Nelson Oliveira 21 March 2014 (has links)
A variável ambiental é parte importante do atual corpo teórico-prático organizacional. / The environmental variable, in the current scenario, is an important part of the current theoretical and practical organizational body. The Environmental Management entered into the business world, and today it is a subject on the agenda in many organizations. Thus, the environmental performance is becoming stronger as an important organizational aspect for consideration by the stakeholders. To manage supply chains in a highly competitive market like the current one is not an easy task. Moreover, pressures from governments, customers, suppliers etc., regarding to environmental issues, are increasingly strong. Then, the main objective of this research is to evaluate the relationship between practices of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) and environmental performance. The chosen methodology is the structural equation modeling (SEM), advanced quantitative technique in which it is possible to analyze the existence and strength of relationship between variables. The sample corresponds to small and medium suppliers of mills in the sugarcane industry. The literature review covered the key issues contained in this research: a) Environmental Management, b) Green Supply Chain Management c) Environmental Performance e d) Sugarcane Industry. The results of this research suggest that the adoption of GSCM practices in the sugarcane industry is in early stage. According to the results, the effect of GSCM practices in Environmental Performance for the analyzed sample can be considered \"moderate\".

Ökad återvinning i modebranschen : försörjningskedjans hinder och möjligheter inom produktutveckling / Increased Recycling in the Fashion Industry : Barriers and Possibilities in the Supply Chain within Product Development

Walker, Elizabeth, Klintarp, Maria January 2015 (has links)
An increase in the consumption of textiles has created a greater environmental impact due to the increased amount of textiles that need to be processed when the product reaches end of life. To ensure the continued use of the precious resources used to create textiles the interest in fiber recycling has increased. The research in recycling cotton fibers is however limited and does not yet allow for production of high quality fibers in a large scale, especially due to the problem with separating material with more than one fiber type. There are changes that fashion companies can make today in the product development stage that will facilitate the recycling process and lead to the implementation of a closed loop system in the future. There is a need to identify the internal problems that can prevent development of recyclable clothing, as well as the changes necessary in a fashion company's external relationships to implement this type of product development. In depth interviews were conducted with seven employees working in the design and purchasing department of the case study Lindex. Through the interviews the employees clarified how the design and purchasing processes in the company are now as well as what barriers and changes may be necessary for product development of recyclable clothing. Three different product groups were studied through scenarios that would facilitate recycling of clothing. The results of the study shows that the company has the resources to implement many of these changes today, however not to a large extent throughout the collections due to design limitations. A large barrier is the inadequate communications flow internally in the case company and externally between the head office and suppliers. Important resources that have been identified in the study that will ease the implementation of changes are however a driven supplier network and the long term relationships to these suppliers. A limited view of the company's network has also been identified within the design and purchasing department of the case company. In conclusion this would need to be widened to allow for implementation of changes. Even the communications flow should be fully utilised to allow the employees to work towards the companys goals, which places demands on management to define guidelines for product development of recyclable clothing. To be able to implement certain changes that would allow for production of recyclable products, a collaboration between fashion companies would be required. Despite the fact that recyclable garments are possible to produce today, further research is needed to develop the technology to produce garments from recycled fibers in a large scale, as well as to address the quality problems associated with recycled fibers. The language of this report is Swedish.

Práticas de green supply chain management em eco-industrial parks: contribuição de uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática e de estudos de caso / Green supply chain management practices in eco -industrial parks: contributions from a systematic literature review and case studies

Guimarães, Paula Salomão 04 September 2015 (has links)
The centralization of sustainability and sustainable development discussion put in evidence concepts such as industrial ecology providing opportunities and solutions for sustainable development. Thus, this study presents as central object the eco-industrial parks that represent a practical way to apply the concept of industrial ecology. The objective of this study was to identify whether and which practices of green supply chain management (GSCM) could contribute to the effective existence of the characteristics cooperation and integration among participating companies an eco-industrial park (EIP) and other characteristics that determine a park like an EIP, aimed at the successful development and operation of these parks over time. For this, there were two systematic literature reviews: the first related to the eco-industrial parks characteristics; the second on GSCM practices in order to raise the literature the characteristics of an eco-industrial park and practices of green supply chain management. Subsequently, three case studies in parks that appointed them as eco-industrial park aimed to verify the perception of a real EIP were performed in addition to examining how respondents related the contribution of GSCM practices to the actual existence of the characteristics of an EIP raised by through systematic literature review and may be: strong contribution, moderate contribution and absence of contribution. Thus, it was found that few EIP features found in the literature are present in these parks; the common features of EIPs present in the three cases are particularly common use service and infrastructure construction and sustainable architecture. As for the contribution of GSCM practices for the existence of the characteristics of an EIP it found that the GSCM practices called \"top management commitment\" and \"midlevel support\" are practices that have strong contribution to the existence of the eleven features EIPs found in the reviewed literature. Already the EIPs features called \"closed loop\", \"member companies with environmental certification\" and \"industrial symbiosis\" are the features that suffer positive influence from as many GSCM practices. Another point to be made is that only the practice of GSCM called \"environmental labeling\" has no contribution to the actual existence of any characteristic of EIP.
