BETWEEN HEIMAT AND FREMDE: NEW CONFIGURATIONS OF HAPPINESS IN CONTEMPORARY GERMAN LITERATURE AND FILM

Hügler, Rebecca Octavia 04 June 2013 (has links)
This thesis investigates representations of happiness in recent German literature and film. The interpretations focus on how happiness is negotiated in the context of home and travel, of Heimat and Fremde, in order to understand happiness, not only insofar as it contributes to “the good life”, but also as an element that shapes public discourses. My readings of works of fiction take into account how notions of happiness have shifted since the turn of the millennium. One reason for this shift is the heightened interest in happiness research, one of the most thriving interdisciplinary research fields of the last decade, which includes disciplines such as psychology, neurosciences, political science, sociology and economics. The following texts and films are examined in this context: Sommerhaus, später (1998) and Nichts als Gespenster (2003) by Judith Hermann, Transfer Lounge (2003) by Gregor Hens, Die Habenichtse (2006) by Katharina Hacker, Head-On (German: Gegen die Wand, 2004) by Fatih Akın, When We Leave (German: Die Fremde, 2010) by Feo Aladağ, Der Blick hinab (2007) by Shirin Kumm, Unveiled (German: Fremde Haut, 2005) by Angelina Maccarone, Cherry Blossoms (German: Kirschblüten – Hanami, 2008) by Doris Dörrie and Zehn (2010) by Franka Potente. My theoretical framework is informed in part by Sara Ahmed’s 2010 influential study, The Promise of Happiness, which takes a critical view toward recent happiness research from a cultural studies perspective. My analysis is directed at the ways in which concepts of happiness are narrated, negotiated and challenged within the context of transnational stories, which are inscribed with the effects of “supermodernity” (Augé) in a globalized world. I show how these works subvert themes and motifs that are associated with happiness, such as home and Heimat and travel or migration into the West. Finally, my readings show how these works mediate and reflect public dialogues and traditional notions about what makes us happy or unhappy, and I demonstrate how new configurations of happiness arise from these narratives. / Thesis (Ph.D, German) -- Queen's University, 2013-05-30 17:42:26.632

Disability Mainstreaming

Behrisch, Birgit 25 April 2017 (has links) (PDF)

Zrození barokní kantáty / Birth of the Baroque Cantate

Konvalinková, Anna January 2013 (has links)
The thesis deals with the birth of the Baroque cantata in Northern and Central Germany. It introduces musical forms that led to the creation of cantata and thus significantly influenced its form, which crystalized during the Late Baroque period. The picture of Early Baroque German music is completed with profiles of three principal composers, on a selection of whose works the gradual development of this new musical form - the German Baroque cantata - is demonstrated. The second part is devoted to an analysis of a work representative of this style, Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri, which is a supreme example of this musical form.

Nenaplněné touhy postav ve sbírce povídek Lettipark od Judith Hermannové / Unfulfilled Desires in the Story Collection Lettipark by Judith Hermann

Bejčková, Šárka January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on thematic interpretation of the short stories collection Lettipark by Judith Hermann, which was released in 2016 in German language. The Czech translation was published in 2018. Within individual interpretations never realized images, expectations and dreams will be accented. They may be regarded as unfulfilled desires of the main characters of the short stories. One part of this diploma thesis also includes the categorization of the author into German literature since the middle 90's of the last century until today. The prose writer's reception in the Czech Republic is also taken into consideration. KEY WORDS German literature, short story, desire, Judith Hermann, character analysis, thematic interpretation

ADOLF HITLER A HERMANN GÖRING. PŘÁTELSTVÍ PŘEDNÍCH NACISTŮ V OBDOBÍ DRUHÉ SVĚTOVÉ VÁLKY. / ADOLF HITLER AND HERMANN GÖRING. THE FRIEDSHIP OF LEADING NAZIS DURING WORLD WAR II.

CINGROŠ, Jan January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the relationship between two important figures at Nazi Germany during the Second World War - Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler and Commander in Chief of the Luftwaffe Hermann Goering. Although these two men participated on a large scale in shaping the policy of the Third Reich, their relationship went through a various stages during a war time. They did not get along afterwards and the initial euphoria and confidence of their relationship did not last long. As a time went it started to appear partial disagreements that resulted rupturing of work and personal relationship. This so called "cooperation" of both the in the Nazi Germany during the war of the 20th century is the core of this work.

Bernard, Julien 26 November 2010 (has links) (PDF)

Ims Johansson, Jesper January 2007 (has links)
