Jan Franc, DrSc., Institute of Physics of Charles University Abstract: We achieved to detect photoluminescence transitions deep in the band gap in 4 samples cut from 2 different crystals of semiinsulating Cd1-xZnxTe (x = 0,02 - 0,18) in a row of points along the growth axis. The spectral peaks give evidence of the presence of deep levels in the sample and the intensity of the photoluminescence peaks is to a certain extent proportional to the concentration of these levels. A comparison between resistivity and photoconductivity that were measured by a contact-less method showed that the change of photoluminescence intensity of deep levels does not bring about an unambigous change of neither resistivity nor photoconductivity. Correlation analysis of resistivity and photoconductivity of 6 samples from 4 different crystals confirmed the following model: A shift of the Fermi level within the band gap induced by a change of donor-acceptor compensation is accompanied by an unambigous change of resistivity and results in a change in occupation of the deep levels. Subject of the thesis is study of photon strength functions describing the gamma decay of the nucleus. During last 50 years a number of theoretical models for these quantities were proposed, however, their accuracy is still de- batable and its verification has recently been a subject of intensive experimental and theoretical research. In this work measurement of multi-step gamma cas- cades following the radiative neutron capture on target nucleus 167 Er is used to analyse photon strength functions. The experiment was performed with DANCE calorimeter located in Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center. The experimen- tal spectra are compared with Monte Carlo simulations of electromagnetic decay using the DICEBOX algorithm, based on assumptions of Extreme Statistical Model. Comparison of experimental and simulated spectra is a fundamental tool for studying correctness of theoretical models of photon strength functions. This study provides information mainly about E1 and M1 photon strength functions, especially properties of the so-called scissor mode are analysed.

A number of theoretical models was proposed to describe experimental data during that time. However, the correctness of these models is still very questionable and its verification is the subject of very intensive experimental and theoretical activity at present time. In this thesis the analysis of spectra of γ rays following the radiative capture of neutrons on isolated neutron resonances of 152,154−158 Gd nuclei is used to study photon strength functions. Experimental data were measured using segmented DANCE calorimeter that is installed at Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center in New Mexico, USA. Experimental spectra are then compared with the outputs of Monte Carlo simulation of nuclear elec- tromagnetic decay, performed by DICEBOX code, that is based on the validity of the so-called Extreme Statistical Model. Glutamate is the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain and its transmission is responsible for higher brain functions, such as learning, memory and cognition. Glutamate action is mediated by a variety of glutamate receptors, though their properties were until now studied predominantly in neurons. Glutamate receptors are expressed also in NG2-glia, however their role under physiological conditions as well as in pathological states of the central nervous system is not fully understood. The aim of this work is to elucidate the presence, composition and function of these receptors in NG2-glia under physiological conditions and following focal cerebral ischemia. For this purpose we used transgenic mice, in which NG2-glia are labeled by a fluorescent protein for their precise identification. To analyze the expression pattern of glutamate receptors in NG2-glia we employed single-cell RT-qPCR. Furthermore, we used calcium imaging to characterize their functional properties.

The γ decay of highly excited nuclear levels can be described within the statistical model of nucleus in terms of the level density and a set of photon strength functions. The knowledge of these quantities enables more accurate calculations of reaction rates in many different reactions which are important especially in nuclear astrophysics and in the development of advanced nuclear reactors. Despite the fact that the photon strength functi- ons have been studied for decades, there are still contradicting experimental results regarding the low energy behavior of dipole strength. One of these ca- ses is the shape of electric dipole photon strength function and the strength of the scissors mode in well-deformed rare-earth nuclei. In this thesis the ana- lyses of γ-ray spectra measured by two different experimental setups are pre- sented. The two-step γ cascades measurements with odd gadolinium targets were performed at the research reactor LVR-15 at the Research Centre Řež. In the multi-step γ cascades experiments the γ rays following resonance ne- utron capture on 161−163 Dy targets were measured with the highly-segmented γ-ray calorimeter Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments in the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center at Los Alamos National Labora- tory. The thesis core lies within measurement of acoustic pressure levels at four vehicles in different motor operation modes by two audio-noise meters. One meter was places within the cabin, the other outside. The results of the work showed a development in reducing noise at modern power vehicles.

The main aim of the diploma thesis was an assessment of the current state of the Svratka watercourse flowing largely through the urban area of the town of Jimramov, especially the adjacent parts of Sedliště and Benátky, and to a lesser extent through the suburban area below the municipality. The given section is 2,6 km long with the beginning in the river kilometer 131,10 and the end in the river kilometer 133,70. The capacity of flows and objels in the given period has been assessed (bridges, weirs, steps, etc.). Calculation water surface profiles have been made by usage of the 1D mathematical model HEC-RAS. Part of the work was to determine the current level of flood protection on the stream. The assessment is based on personal visit and photos taken as rekord. The thesis was complemented with hydroecological monitoring of the stream channel – the HEM analysis 2014. The final phase of the work deals with the conceptual design of a nature-friendly flood control measure to increase the protection of the adjacent area and improve the condition of the watercourse. Progress of individual levels and measures are based on hydrotechnical calculations.
