Rudiš jako následovník Hrabala? K problematice skazu v díle Jaroslava Rudiše / Rudiš as a follower of Hrabal? "Skaz" in literary work of Jaroslav Rudiš

The diploma thesis focuses on the ‚skaz' narrative on the example of the literary work of Bohumil Hrabal and Jaroslav Rudiš. The theoretical definition and main features of this narrative strategy are based on the works of Boris Ejchenbaum, Viktor Vinogradov, Wolf Schmid, and Miroslav Drozda. The thesis also introduces a Czech variant of ‚skaz' in the form of a ‚pub story', defined by Emanuel Frynta and Václav Černý. The following analytical chapters are devoted to ‚skaz' in the literary work of Bohumil Hrabal and Jaroslav Rudiš. Finally, the characteristics of ‚skaz' in the work of both authors are compared.

In first theoretical part I briefly concentrate on author, his life and his work and I choose performances of I served the king of England with this script. At the end I analyze a drama. I describe history of clothing and history of the Czechoslovak Republic. In a practical part of my thesis I analyze all dramatical characters and give description and explication of their costumes. And then I use designs at the end of my thesis.

Bohumil Hrabal et la poétique de la destruction : le cas d'Une trop bruyante solitude

En Tchécoslovaquie, les lendemains du Printemps de Prague (1968) sont marqués par une forte répression. Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997), devenu célèbre par ses parutions des années 1960, est alors interdit de publication dans les maisons d'édition d'État, à l'instar de nombre d'auteur·e·s de l'époque. Il diffuse donc son texte Une trop bruyante solitude (1973-1974) en samizdat, un moyen d'auto-publication employé en Tchécoslovaquie comme en Union des républiques socialistes soviétiques (URSS) ainsi que dans d'autres pays du bloc de l'Est pour contourner les contraintes censoriales. Par le prisme de ce texte, cette étude s'intéresse à la rencontre entre la figure ambiguë de Hrabal, qui collabore parfois avec les autorités, parfois avec la dissidence, et la sphère des samizdats, sorte de brèche dans l'ère Gutenberg. Ce mémoire examine les contextes sociohistorique, symbolique et matériel d'Une trop bruyante solitude en s'appuyant sur des théories de l'histoire du livre et de la matérialité de la littérature. La recherche montre comment le récit fait écho à sa forme matérielle - un samizdat qui circule clandestinement dans un contexte de censure étatique pour raconter une histoire de livres que l'on détruit. Cet exemple amène à considérer la censure, thématisée à l'intérieur du récit, non plus seulement sous l'angle de l'interdiction ou de la restriction de la parole, mais aussi sous celui de la création. / In Czechoslovakia, the aftermath of the Prague Spring (1968) was marked by severe repression. Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997), who had become famous through his publications in the 1960s, was banned from publication by state publishing houses, as were many other authors of the time. He therefore distributed his text Too Loud a Solitude (1973-1974) in samizdat, a means of self-publication used in Czechoslovakia, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and other countries of the Eastern Bloc to circumvent censorship constraints. Through the prism of this text, this study focuses on the encounter between the ambiguous figure of Hrabal, who sometimes collaborates with the authorities, sometimes with dissidence, and the sphere of samizdats, a kind of crack in the Gutenberg era. This dissertation investigates the socio-historical, symbolic, and material contexts of Too Loud a Solitude by drawing on theories of book history and the materiality of literature. It shows how the narrative echoes its material form - a samizdat that circulates clandestinely in a context of state censorship to tell a story of books being destroyed. This example leads us to consider censorship, thematized within the narrative, not only from the point of view of prohibition or restriction of speech, but also from that of creation.

(EN) The doctoral thesis Varianta v poetice Bohumila Hrabala [The process of variation in Bohumil Hrabal's poetics] studies the creative process of writing variants, which the author employed in the whole of his literary production. The main theoretical focus of the thesis is the concept of semantic "openness" introduced by Italian semiotician Umberto Eco (1932-2016) as the possibility of inter­ preting a literary work on the basis of the aestetic information (i.e. the formal construction) of the text. A further elaboration of Eco's concept is to be found in a case study conducted by Michael Špirit (1965-) on one text written by Hrabal in the 50s and presented by Špirit as an example of a concluded text yet open in meaning, and its variant published in the 60s, which according to Špirit has the features of an open text, but is semantically closed. Through the textual analysis of three groups of variant texts written by Hrabal, the thesis argues the development of the process of variation from texts written in the 50s towards the semantic closed­ ness of their variants published in the 60s (epos Krásná Poldi- the short story Krásná Poldi; short stories Kain and Fádní stanice-novella Ostře sledované vlaky-short story Legenda o Kainovi), whi­ le demonstrating the opposite direction of the same process...

"Nebesa nejsou humánní..." Filosofická interpretace Příliš hlučné samoty / !The heavens are not humane..." Philosophical interpretation of Too Loud a Solitude

Too Loud a Solitude is one of the most famous texts of Bohumil Hrabal and possibly it is his most philosophical one. The following thesis interprets this text from the philosophical points of view as a statement about modern age and an individuals place in it. Based on one of the central sentences - "The heavens are not humane" - spoken by the protagonist Haňťa in his monologue in, the text is read as defense against incommensurability of the world with an indiviual. Christian a ancient Greek's way of defense are considered as not appliable to the age Haňťa lives at, but also as somehow present in his way of defense, which is described as a specific type of "pábení". "The end of Christian epoch" (as Hrabal himself puts it) which occurs in Too Loud a Solitude is described then in terms of mechanizing and forgetting of actual humane being. Existencial analysis of Haňťa's state after the end of epoch follows. The thesis mostly reffers to following thinkers: Friedrich Nietzsche, Karl Jaspers, Albert Camus and Jean Améry.

Libeň Bohumila Hrabala / Bohumil Hrabal's Libeň

In my diploma thesis, I looked at part of Prague 8 - Libeň, in the kontext of the life and work of writer Bohumil Hrabal. I tried to show Libeň in the twentieth century, when the famous writer lived there. At first I made efforts to describe Bohumil Hrabal's life and Libeň, how we can find it in his books. Than I outlined the history of Libeň. In the main part I tried to show real locations in Libeň, which Bohumil Hrabal visited and he liked them. It was mainly Libeň castle, a lot of views of hills in Libeň, the vicinity of Vltava river and Rokytka brook and atmosphere of pubs in Libeň. The diploma thesis shows Libeň in last century especially in the kontext of Hrabal's trialogy Weddings in the house.

Hrabalova Příliš hlučná samota v anglickém překladu / Bohumil Hrabal's Too Loud a Solitude in the English Translation

This thesis is deals with Hrabal's novella Too Loud a Solitude in the English translation and its reception. First, it briefly describes Hrabal's life and work in the context of the co called normalization period in Czechoslovakia, focusing on the novella itself and the three variations of the original Czech text. Before the translation analysis, the possible source text for the translation is discussed since the endings of the Czech text and the English translation are considerably different. The source of the difference was determined by consulting the French translation and related commentary. The analysis compares the ending of the original with the endings of the English and the French translation, translation of proper names and three selected sections of the Czech and the English text. Afterwards, the thesis describes the reception of the novella in Czech and English literature and also readers' reviews at the Goodreads website. The analysis and the reception are assessed on the basis of the theory of cultural manipulation. The most important achievements are: identifying the source text for the English translation, description of translation method and shifts and discussion of differences between the Czech and the English attitude to the novella. 1 Abstract The diploma thesis Fragments of a Love Story (in Photographs) focuses on visuality of a lover's speech; it follows various possible connections between the media of photography and text. In comparison with the disintegrating lover's discourse, as developed by Roland Barthes in A Lover's Discourse: Fragments, and in a dialogue with it, the thesis highlights love story as a traditional way of expressing a love theme. The elaboration of the topic is based on the interpretation of works written by Vasily Rozanov (Opavshie list'ya), Jakub Deml (Listy Jakuba Demla Otokaru Březinovi), Ludvík Vaculík (Český snář), Bohumil Hrabal (Vita nuova) and others. An appendix that includes the discussed photographs accompanies the thesis.

Maria Molchan Bohumil Hrabal v ruských překladech Богумил Грабал в русских переводах Bohumil Hrabal in Russian Translations Abstract The aim of this doctoral thesis is to analyze existing translations of Bohumil Hrabal's works into the Russian language, to create an adequate translation of Hrabal's novel Harlequin's Millions, to accompany it with an introspective commentary on the translation process, and to place it into the context of the current translational norm. The present work can be defined as an empirical-analytical study. The empirical part of the thesis consists of the first translation ever done of Harlequin's Millions into Russian preceded by a complex theoretical-analytical study. This study has a multilevel structure and includes translation criticism of Hrabal's works in Russian based on a special methodological framework, which was developed specifically for the purposes of our research. The study also covers the issue of translational norm, offers a review of secondary literature on Hrabal, and defines the author's role among other Czech writers on the Russian book market. The translation of Harlequin's Millions is followed by an extensive multilevel analysis of the novel's translation, including its correspondence with the existing translational norm in Czech-Russian...
