Learners' interpretations of the roles of photographs in South African physical science textbooks.Nkomo, Asaph Ntu. January 2013 (has links)
M. Tech. Education / It is well known that learners do not perform well in physical science. The purpose of this study was to investigate how learners interpret the role of photographs and other illustrative devices in physical science and whether learners are able to identify physical science concepts that they think are embedded in the photographs found in grade 12 physical science textbooks. The study focused on photographs found in physical science textbooks as it is clear that photographs are explicitly used in physical science textbooks as pedagogical resources. It is of great significance for learners to also understand the physical science concepts embedded in photographs.

Kompiuterinės Tapybos Iliustracijos " Visuomenės komunikacija autobuse" / Digital Illustrations " Society Communication in the bus"Kačinskas, Arūnas 07 September 2010 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The concept of the Bachelor thesis was influenced by personal experience which was gained by using public transport. The ways of communication in the bus gives huge impression. For example when there are full bus of people and no one has a conversation or when youngsters turn their mobile music on, so that everyone in the bus could hear it. These situations inspired me to create illustrations by using digital technologies.
By creating digital illustrations I present my attitude towards our society and lack of communication between people. Moreover, by creating these illustrations huge attention was given to their visual properties and how they will be represented in exposition. The topic of the Bachelor thesis was influenced by Lithuanian society which at the moment is experiencing lethargy which is the result of the economical crisis and other global disasters. I am interested in showing and analyzing communication of nowadays society in Siauliai town In this case, public transport is the plays where people gather in oder to reach their destination. What is more, individual which choses public transport in some way is forced to get into contact with other people.
One of the aims of this paper is to create digital illustrations that would represent society‘s communication and to analyze relations between society, artist and technology.
Moreover, digital art is not only the pieces of art because when digital illustrations are placed in the public sites, they become as one of... [to full text]

An attitudinal study of Gannett newspaper editors about journalism graphicsSchulte, William January 2003 (has links)
The purpose of the research was to look at how editors at Gannett, America's largest newspaper chain, perceive the role of journalism graphics and graphic artists in the newsroom.Nineteen editors from newspapers of various circulation sizes, participated from across the country. They sorted Q statements that covered areas related to journalism graphics as: use of color, balancing graphics with other content, graphics relationship with design, reader needs, and how graphics serve literacy. An analysis of the Q statements collected for this study showed two distinct factor types. They were identified by this researcher as the Communitarians and the Zealots. The Communitarians were characterized as trying to balance graphics with other aspects of journalism such as story, photo and design in an attempt to put the reader first. They were unwilling to elevate graphics to a necessity in presenting a story. The Communitarians saw graphics as one tool among many to conveyinformation. The Zealots saw graphics as an absolute necessity for any worthy journalistic endeavor. They saw graphics as the answer to attracting young readers, to serving a population with literacy issues, and to enhancing any work the newspaper is doing. The Zealots rejected statements that did not show graphics in the most positive way.Two camps emerged within the Gannett ranks regarding journalism graphics. The Zealots hold on to the allure of color and graphics made popular by USA Today in the 1980s and early 1990s. Communitarians acknowledged that graphics are an effective tool, but considered the practice of similar importance with other methods of conveying information. / Department of Journalism

Moters įvaizdis bendrojo ugdymo mokyklos vadovėlių iliustracijose / Women's image in the general education school textbook illustrationsBikulčienė, Ingrida 21 July 2014 (has links)
Darbe nagrinėjamos vadovėlių iliustracijos, kuriose vaizduojamos moterys. Apibendrinamos kiekybinės bei kokybinės bendrojo ugdymo mokyklos vadovėlių iliustracijos. Analize bei empiriniu tyrimu, siekta išsiaiškinti mokinių bei mokytojų požiūrį apie moters vaizdavimą vadovėliuose, rezultatus, pateikiamos išvados. / In popular culture and media image of a woman is one of the most popular topics. There are public discussions about the image of a woman-who she is and how a modern woman should look like, moreover, stereotyped attitudes towards her are analyzed (they are sometimes broken and sometimes supported) and a woman‘s equality to a man is emphasized. In society a cult of a young, beautiful and self-confident woman, who is distiguished by physical and intelectual features more often, is spread. A term „image“ is usually used while talking about appearance and style, however, this conception is perceived in a wider context in this work- it also includes social roles, fields of relations and intercource with others. Conclusions are presented after generalization of quantitative and qualitative general education schoolbooks‘ illustrations analysis results and the ones, of empirical research which was performed in order to ascertain students‘ and teachers‘ attitude towards woman‘s portrayal in schoolbooks. It is emphasized that raised hypothesis has been proved, however, it is accented that mismatch of reality and world which is depicted in textbooks‘ illustrations determine students‘ negative attitude towards a woman and her roles, portrayed in educational material.
