A INVENÇÃO QUE LEVOU A OUTROS LUGARES (E DAS DESCOBERTAS DE UM ESPAÇO DE FORMAÇÃO DE PROFESSORES) / THE INVENTION WHICH LED TO OTHER PLACES (AND OF THE DISCOVERIES OF A TEACHER'S EDUCATION SPACE)

Dalmaso, Alice Copetti 23 January 2013 (has links)
This work has been traced around a series of experimentations lived in the space of an initial teacher's education space, developed in the Training, Knowledge and Professional Development Line (Linha de Formação, Saberes e Desenvolvimento Profissional - LPI) within the Post-Graduation Degree Program at UFSM. These experimentations were thought up and produced out of readings concerning studies in the field of cognition, especially those under the topic of invention, by Virgínia Kastrup. Brought by the author as temporal potency, the invention is not limited to problem solving, it does not submit learning to its results, but rather it enables the continuity of the operation of cognition to non-recognitive experiences and to becoming. Upon meeting with the topic and all which it evoked, questions such as how to feel the invention in an educational space were raised. Thus, through literature, music and images, obscurely, there was a search to experiment another time, other forms of meeting/knowing and of relating during the educational process. Thus the emergency and proliferation of meanings during these meetings led the research/writing process to other meanders, shifting the central position which Kastrup's concept of invention occupied initially in the work to converse with the notion of a meeting as an event and ever ongoing individuation. Describing the narratives of the moments that compose most of the work's part, there has been a writing effort in the sense of showing (and inventing) the veins, lines and compositions, possible and real, of a space where various things converged and diverged, their durations and emergencies. The production of such data, during the construction of reporting the moments lived, became the main labor of this research. Through signs, languages and gestures, the writing process came down to an attempt to expose them, of a possible showing in faces and enunciations, with an intent to disinvest the personal aspect of the event, bringing out a research-writing process that denotes the sensible quality we are made of. To have those means, to make one flow: a movement to vocalize an invention which was not individualized, but above all collective. Authors such as Gilbert Simondon and Gabriel Tarde, then, helped so that such draft of multiple-common - and what makes us unique - would make up most of the work's body. To release the multiplicity of this "me" that is another (oneself/others) which set the tone to the meetings: there are no guarantees, only attempts, and the unfinished research process intended to make seen the uninterrupted movement of lasting and changing. The becoming of this research: make one's own writing as an event, to combine action and affection in its making. Becoming implicated with the desire of giving consistency to collective feeling, without highlights on the truth of what is said, but evidencing the change we own, the singularity we carry (including the researcher's), inventing and making worlds through that feeling. Invention has launched us far and has greatly occupied us. We remain adrift.

Beneath the wings of Aidos (Goddess of Shame) : women finding the courage to live with HIV and the strength to die of AIDS

Bain, Katherine Alison 16 May 2010 (has links)
This study describes the subjective psychological experience of African women positively living with and dying of HIV/AIDS, with a focus on the significant cognitive, emotional and social themes involved in their subjective sense of coping. HIV-positive African women have been identified as being at risk psychologically, due to gender inequality in African culture and society and the stigma that surrounds HIV/AIDS. Their traditional role as caregivers also places them at risk, but highlights the importance of understanding their experience in order to assist these women and their children. Drawing on interpretive methods within a qualitative research approach, ten women who are coping with their HIV-positive status were interviewed in order to gain an understanding of their experiences of coping with HIV/AIDS. The analysis of the interview material suggests that coping is a process of disconnection and reconnection that entails the ability to know one’s own experience. Coping was found to be a process of mourning in which the individual moves from a time of not coping toward acceptance of their status and the changes this necessitates in their relationships. Resolution of mourning seemed to entail greater integration of these women’s sense of themselves and psychological strength was found to originate in coping with adversity. The study draws on three theoretical approaches, namely positive psychology, object relations theory and analytical psychology. Carl Jung’s theory of individuation and Joseph Campbell’s interpretation of it, The Hero’s Journey, was used as a frame for the theoretical discussion. Within this frame, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross’ stages of mourning were integrated with Donald Winnicott’s description of separation in the move from dependence to independence, Winnicott’s ideas around the capacity to be alone, Melanie Klein’s description of the move from the paranoid-schizoid to the depressive position and Wilfred Bion’s ideas around the desire to know one’s own experience. Throughout the discussion a number of concepts from positive psychology were explored, such as: coping styles, social support, participation in life, positive goals, autonomy and resilience. The core of Jung’s theory, which is the integration of all aspects of the self, allowed space to explore distress and coping, both of which are entailed in the process of coping. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Psychology / unrestricted

A rediscovery of the individual in family therapy : a case study

Radomsky, Lynne 10 April 2014 (has links)
M.A. (Clinical Psychology) / In families, almost no interaction is simply the result of group processes. Even when the process of interaction seems to take on a life of its own, it is the product of personalities, persons conscious of the possibilities of interactions. A perusal of the current literature reveals a move toward the reintroduction of the individual and his/her possibilities into the system. The insistence of a focus on family dynamics, while providing a sharpened awareness of relationships and interactive patterns, resulted in selective absorption and the tendency to ignore individual family matters. In this thesis it is suggested that there is a need for the reintroduction of the individual into family therapy practice. This approach is based on the discovery in a number of therapies, that different individual family members were reacting differently to the same intervention. A detailed case example is presented to illustrate this approach. The study questions the need for all family members to be present" in each therapy session. Furthermore, the study describes concurrent individual therapy processes with individual members of the family and the resulting systemic changes that were observed. Family therapy has demonstrated that it is important to consider relational as well as individual realities in evaluating health and dysfunction. Implications for therapy and treatment anslnq from this study include the need for a broader view which takes into account the realities of all members of the problem determined system. In conclusion, the author warns against the dangers of focusing on any single viewpoint. A lack of respect for the realities of all members of the professional family system, and adherence to a single perspective may in fact perpetuate the trauma and contribute to the distress of the family.

The moving image : contemporary film analysis and analytical psychology

Broodryk, Chris Willem 21 August 2007 (has links)
The cinematic experience is often an emotional or ‘felt’ experience. In the aftermath of the film, it is challenging to indicate precisely how I was guided to react emotionally to the film. This study presents an investigation of the emotional cinematic experience from a Jungian critical reading. Jungian theory introduces a model of the psyche as consisting of, amongst other constructs, the collective unconscious and the archetypes. These archetypal contents manifest visually as symbols. These symbols guide the reader of the filmic text towards an emotional cinematic experience by activating, in particular, the archetype of the Self. Based on a review of the available scholarship in Jungian theory and film, this dissertation develops a Jungian conceptual framework consisting of notions and concepts that can describe, articulate and examine the psychological dynamics of an emotional cinematic experience. In a demonstration of how a Jungian approach to the text can highlight the dynamics of the emotional cinematic experience, the study presents a critical reading of M. Night Shyamalan’s films The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. Using the Jungian practice of amplification, the study focuses on notions of the archetypal (contents and manifestations, particularly the archetype of the Self); individuation motifs; notions of the Apocalypse; and alchemical symbolism, all framed within an approach proposed by Jungian dream analysis. The symbolic aspect of film imagery is constructed by archetypal contents and individuation motifs that emphasise the emotional cinematic experience Based on the critical reading of Shyamalan’s film, this dissertation concludes that the emotional cinematic experience can be examined with specific reference to the emotional cinematic experience as ‘guided’ by the filmic images’ symbolic aspect. The Jungian framework developed by this study can be used to effectively investigate and articulate the emotional cinematic experience. / Dissertation (MA (Drama and Film Studies))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Drama / MA / Unrestricted

O solo de dança Pela finita beleza da rosa é assim, fruto e produto final do processo corporal da bailarina autora dessa pesquisa / Abstract: Between Tracks, Loops and Traces - The body, its memories and the autobiographical creative process in dance. The research was based on the competence of laboratories as spaces of conditioning and deconditioning, reflection, construction and deconstruction of memories. Additinally, the dance proposed was created by the elaborations of personal contents in dialogue with the present experiments. The present research is a case study approaching the theme of the archetypal feminine, initiating from the dance training memories of the researcher-artist.This study is divided into three stages: the improvisation labs, the research of expressive phrases, and the creation of a performance. The investigative source to this research is finding new meanings, mental and gestural, to the researcher's memories and body image. As instruments of creation, the artist observes the sensations, impulses and expressive dialogue between Jung's depth psychology, regarding the process of individuation, and the contents of the body that emerge in a dance lab setting. Finally, as the final result emerges, the poetic performance is the result of the experiences and emotions lived throughout the process. The research enabled the artist to experience different contents by several experiences and intense exchanges, from the narcissism to the the development of the body itself. Three guiding principles were used: the tracks (in dance training pathway), loops (affections and affinities) and traces (expressive quality and scenic language). The solo dance For the rose's finite beauty is therefore both the object and purpose of this research in dance / Mestrado / Artes da Cena / Mestra em Artes da Cena

Bridging the divide: An exploration of Jungian psychoanalysis and African healing practices and implications for a south African psychology

Marks, Lynne January 2005 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / There has recently been a lot of interest in the role of traditional healers in various cultures. This study explores the merit of an integrative approach between western based psychological practices in South Africa and what is known as traditional African healing. In order to do so, this study aims to present the epistemological views of Jungian analytical theory and African healing practices. The purpose is to ascertain whether or not there are sufficient commonalities to allow for relatedness between these two worlds. Jungian analytical thought and practice is reviewed with particular reference to the collective unconscious, archetypes, complexes and dream interpretation as a pathway to individuation. The traditional healer's pervasive role within the context of the African cosmology is explored with particular reference to the understanding of the role of the ancestors, the causes of illnesses and the use of dreams, symbols and rituals in the healing process. The importance of the sacred in both healing modalities is presented. The study employs a qualitative research design with the phenomenological approach as an example of one of the traditions of this design. Interviews with five traditional healers comprise the data for the study. The data is analyzed according to the procedure recommended by Moustakas (1994). The interviews focused specifically on eliciting information regarding the calling and the training process of the traditional healer. It is proposed that the two approaches to healing investigated in this study present possible mechanisms to bridge the divide between the westernized approaches to healing and that of the non-technical practitioner. It is further proposed that this will have implications for the broadening of the training and implementation of psychology in South Africa today.

The process of Individuation in Willy Loman : A Jungian Archetypal Literary Analysis of the Protagonist in Arthur Miller’s Play Death of a Salesman Compared to the Classical Hero of Odysseus in Homer’s The Odyssey

Åberg, Joakim January 2019 (has links)
This study is an archetypal literary analysis of Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman and Homer’s The Odyssey. The analysis aims to demonstrate how Arthur Miller’s protagonist, Willy Loman, in Death of a Salesman demonstrates several stages of Carl Gustav Jung’s theory of the individuation process, similar to Odysseus in Homer’s The Odyssey. This is done by identifying set archetypes and stages of Jung’s individuation process, the persona, the shadow, the anima, and the self. After that, the stages are applied to both Miller’s play and Homer’s epic poem. The analysis shows that both protagonists demonstrate and complete Jung’s individuation process. Willy Loman completes a symbolic journey, whereas Odysseus completes a physical one.

Why Do Individuals Act Fairly Or Unfairly? An Examination Of Psychological And Situational Antecedents Of Organizational Justice

Ganegoda, Deshani B 01 January 2012 (has links)
Most studies on organizational justice have focused on individuals’ reactions to justice. As such, a key question has been left largely unanswered: Why do individuals act fairly or unfairly? The present research adopted a person-situation interactionist approach (Trevino, 1986) to examine psychological and situational antecedents of individuals’ fair behavior. The social identity model of deindividuation (SIDE; Reicher, Spears, & Postmes, 1995) and side-bet theory of continuance commitment (Becker, 1960) was used to examine how organizational identification and continuance commitment might influence employees’ fair or unfair behavior depending on an organization’s justice climate. Based on SIDE, it was hypothesized that organizational identification relates positively to employees’ feelings of deindividuation. Based on side-bet theory, it was further hypothesized that employees’ continuance commitment relates positively to their adoption of a subordinate role. Both deindividuation and adoption of a subordinate role were argued to make employees more susceptible to external influences and, therefore, make individuals more likely to behave in ways that are normative in a given context. Individuals who have higher levels of continuance commitment and organizational identification were, therefore, argued to engage in fair or unfair behavior depending on the level of the justice climate and the strength of the justice climate of their workgroup. The results of three studies provided support for the majority of hypotheses. Theoretical and practical implications of the results are discussed.
