The present dissertation deals with selected questions arising in the course of the application of choice of law rules and of the foreign law designated on the basis thereof. In this context, the dissertation analyzes general issues connected to the selected questions and then compares the possible solutions as implemented in Czech law, EU law and in selected foreign laws. As far as Czech law is concerned, attention is also paid to its historical development; the same is true about some of the foreign laws discussed in the dissertation. The dissertation focuses on selected wording and interpretation difficulties that used to arise and still arise in the context of particular legal instruments. First, two basic hypotheses are set out; their verification is one of the aims of the dissertation. The first is the question of whether the doctrine of choice of law rules represents a self- contained and self-sufficient system that - at least on a theoretical level - offers answers to all questions arising in the context of the application of choice of law rules. This paper tries to characterize relation between narrative of novels and computer games. In its first part it points out specifics of the narrative of videogames, but also shows how narrative used in literature reacted in a form of multiform stories. It defines the possible kinds of relations between these two media (genetical influence, influence of structural analogy, influence of functional similarity, influence of shared contextual functioning, metatextual relation and changes caused by shared influences of perception), shows possible directions in which they can be used and finally it shows some of the prominent examples from both media to make these relations clearer. The main interest of the paper is then influence of structural analogy because of comparison of possibilities in both kinds of narrative. The thesis deals with the realization of three narratives -"Virtuous Young Man", "Divine Lover", and "Sacrifice of a Child"- in diverse literatures of East and West. Basic form, characters/(arche)types, and motifs and their possible variations depending on cultural, literary, and religious/mythological setting are presented for each plot. Using historical and comparative poetics, each plot is analysed from the first extant adaptations in European and non-European literatures to the modern ones. The thesis puts an emphasis on specification and configuration of particular motifs, variations depending on the religious-mythological context, and tension between the same and different, general pattern and specific realization, type and character.

The thesis documents and interprets the conflict between the literary discourses of the time on the one hand, and the specific approach of Karel Krejčí (1904-1979), comparatist, Slavist and Czech studies scholar, on the other hand. Based on the Krejčí's studies on literary history and comparative literature, as well as his participation in the methodological debates of his time, the thesis analyses the impact of this conflict on the author's literary theory method, and his work of a literary historian and comparatist in general. The analysis is based on the ambiguous reception of Krejčí's scientific work: while he is recognised as a great personality in the field of Slavic studies, he is considered an outsider in the general context of Czech literary science. The thesis describes how the author, with his methodological approach, was in opposition to the prevailing trend. As a Slavic studies scholar he criticised the 'influence science' and positivist methods employed in the field. In the period between the two world wars he inclined towards the sociology of literature, although this discipline did not become popular. Following dissertation thesis study the influence of Czech theatre on developement of Slovak classic drama theatre during approximately from the twenties to seventies of 20th century. The purpose of the thesis is to identify the possible impact of Czech theatre on development of Slovak theatre culture in common state system regarding the similarity of both nations and cultures. The thesis are divided into two parts. First part defines chosen methodology. It presents the concept of literature comparatistics and its possibilites regarding application on theatrological research, it explains basic terms of comparatistics, the context of origin of Czech and Slovak nation regarding the idea of national theatre and it sets its own periodization In second part the comparative analysis is applied on particular historic source, it analyzes each period using examples from work of Slovak directors in particular historic-political context while comparing it to the state of Czech theatre. These chapters use tools of comparative analysis ? typological connections or genetic and contact relations of both theatre cultures. The main purpose of the thesis is to emphasize the fact, that despite the common historic and political context and significant language and cultural similarity, there are two individual theatre cultures developing since 1920 that are engaged in a continual creative but mostly varying dialogue.

The thesis focuses on the investigation of selected world fairy-tale analyzing the topics of psychology and cultural anthropology. The subject of the thesis is literarily-theoretical meta-analysis of narrative structures and their relative comparison. Theoretical part of the thesis includes four major chapters, in which there are more specific descriptions of fairy-tale dilemmas and also the analysis of several European fairy-tales. The practical part then specifically analyses Australian, Japanese, Chinese, Gypsy, and Indian fairy-tales.

MA thesis Danube: Journey, Memory, City and Death is, to a certain extent, a personal search for today's meaning of the river Danube in literature and culture. Practically, it contains texts from the antiquity until today, not chronologically, but in motivic spirals of journey, memory, city and death. It is geographically linked especially to German-Austrian, Slovak and Hungarian space. The chapters are buoy-like, because together they form the characteristics of Danubian culture, which are border, appropriation, palimpsest quality, and pleasure seeking. The chapter about journey deals predominantly with searching for Danube's identity and the character of traveler. The chapter about memory analyses chosen places of memory and certain historical figures. The third chapter, dedicated to Danubian metropoli (Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest), searches for common traits of their soul, which are realized through the concepts of border, pleasure and bridge. The last chapter about death in Danube deals with both images of death and river beings - fairies and nymphs. The whole text represents certain literary-cultural anthropology of Danube.

The thesis, entitled "The Avant-Postman: James Joyce, the Avant-Garde and Postmodernism," attempts to construct a post-Joycean literary genealogy centred around the notions of a Joycean avant-garde and literary experimentation written in its wake. It considers the last two works by Joyce, Ulysses and Finnegans Wake, as points of departure for the post-war literary avant-gardes in Great Britain, the USA, and France, in a period generally called "postmodern." The introduction bases the notion of a Joycean avant-garde upon Joyce's sustained exploration of the materiality of language and upon the appropriation of his last work, his "Work in Progress," for the cause of the "Revolution of the word" conducted by Eugene Jolas in his transition magazine. The Joycean exploration of the materiality of language is considered as comprising three stimuli: the conception of writing as concrete trace, susceptible to distortion or effacement; the understanding of literary language as a forgery of the words of others; and the project of creating a personal idiom as an "autonomous" language for a truly modern literature. Diploma work presents the Poetics of Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman as a big influence on traditional American Literary development. Their work brought a new view of traditional Poetry in 19th century, which affected the whole status of traditional American culture. Their styles of writing had an effective impact on American Literature and shaped the new image of Poetry. One of the purposes of this diploma work is to introduce historical and literary-philosophical background of the period of 19. century, which influenced their lives and work as well. Then the diploma work demonstrates the Poetry of Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson and compares their work afterwards according to the chosen topics appearing in their poems. To summarise the whole diploma work there is the analyse of the similarities and differences in the poetry of both poets.
