Cykličnost a linearita času v českém jazykovém obrazu světa / Cyclical and Linear Time in the Czech Linguistic Picture of the World

Svašková, Jana January 2014 (has links)
I. Abstract The thesis deals with the concept of time and its conceptualisation in the Czech language. It is based on the theory of conceptual metaphor and the theory of linguistic worldview. Within the field of cognitive linguistics, the theory of conceptual metaphor is mainly applied in the identification of the source domains of metaphors used for language expression of the target domains. The first part of the thesis deals with the reflection of the "time" phenomenon, with its non- linguistic concept. Attention is paid to the concept of the cyclical and linear time. The second part aims to identify metaphors used in Czech for the expression of time relations and for the expression of the time phenomenon. The paper analyses the language plane in order to find such metaphors. It employs semantic and etymological analysis of words used when expressing the notion of time, i.e. nouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, and interjections.

Konceptualizace lásky v textech české populární hudby (Jazykový obraz lásky v textech skupiny Lucie) / Conceptualization of Love in the Czech Popular Lyrics (Linguistic Picture of Love in the Lyrics of the Group "Lucie")

Kratochvílová, Veronika January 2013 (has links)
This master's thesis researches the linguistic image of love in lyrics found in Czech popular music based on the theoretical and methodological principles of cognitive linguistics. The theoretical section first characterizes the song lyrics of the band Lucie and then explores the context of cognitive linguistics. More specifically, this thesis characterizes the cognitivist concept and the application of metaphorical structures in both common language and creative texts. In the interpretational section, the concept of love is characterized by using a number of key lexemes which are used to express love in the Czech language. This section also describes the metaphorical and metonymical conceptualization of love in terms of the Czech image of the world. The conclusion deals with the profiles of the Czech concept of (erotic) love. This thesis mainly relies on theoretical and methodological tools included in the works of G. Lakoff, M. Johnson, J. Grady and M. Głąbska.

Jazyková relativita a gramatický rod v češtině / Language Relativity and Grammatical Gender in Czech

Matějka, Štěpán January 2012 (has links)
The diploma thesis is concerned with the effect of the grammatical gender of Czech nouns referring to inanimate entities on their semantic meaning and conceptualization. The thesis looks into the question whether masculines are conceptulized as "men" and feminines as "women". The thesis is divided into two main parts. In the first part, theoretical insight into the question of relation between language and thought is provided. In this part, foreign experiments related to our research question are mentioned as well. In the second part, two experiments accomplished in the Czech language are presented. The objective of experiment nr. 1 was to choose such semantic differential scales which according to Czech speakers distinguish the "female and male principle" the best. In experiment nr. 2, feminine and masculine gender variants of nouns were employed (e. g. "brambor - brambora"). Experiment nr. 2 contained two tasks. The first task used the semantic differential method. In the second task, participants were asked to choose a woman's or a man's voice that the inanimate entities would have in a cartoon movie. The results of the first task indicate that the grammatical gender of nouns did not affect the decision-making as individual nouns were marked on the semantic differential scales. However, there...

Projevy metaforičnosti v onomastice u žáků a studentů / Metaphorical patterns in onomastics recognizable by pupils and students

Štěpánová, Pavla January 2018 (has links)
This dissertation thesis deals with metaphorical patterns in a specific language material - names for partner (pet names) as recognizabled by pupils of age 14 to 16 and students of age 18 to 20. Names for partner, i. e. ways of mutual calling between a two people making a couple, were selected due to its strong metaphorical character. Their ambiguous affiliation with proper names, or common name enabled critical evaluation of structural and functional definition of proper names as well. Furthemore they enable to present a cognitive view on proper names especially based on emphasizing the conotative part of meaning and metaphorical nature of humans' thinking. The research was based on questionnaire divided into two parts and group and individual interviews with girls. The sufficient lexicological material gained due to the first part of questionnaire became a matter of metaphorical conceptualizations' analysis dealing with conceptualizations of partner (love). Thanks to the individual interviews the communication and pragmatic analysis of names for partner was performed. Second part of questionnaire and group interviews with girls enabled the detailed analysis of connotations and metaphorical perception of thirteen names intended for ladies. KEYWORDS metaphor, cognitive linguistics, onomastics,...

Interference v genderové konceptualizaci neživých referentů u maďarských bilingvistů / Interferences in the gender conceptualization of inanimate referents in bilingual Hungarian speakers

Červenková, Michaela January 2019 (has links)
This work deals with possible interferences in gender conceptualization of inanimate objects in bilingual speakers of Hungarian and Slovakian language. It closely pursues the grammatical category of gender (which is present in one of the examined languages, in Slovakian, and absent in the other one - Hungarian). The aim of the performed experiment, in which two groups of speakers participated (one was the previously mentioned group of bilingual speakers of Hungarian and Slovakian, and the second one was a control group of Hungarian monolingual speakers) was to verify if the presence of grammatical gender in one of the two languages, spoken by the bilingual group of speakers, will affect their conceptualization of gender of the inanimate referents. Another aspiration was to find out if bilingual speakers, as well as the monolingual speakers of Hungarian had accordant responses to some of the inanimate objects, and also if there was a congruence in the responses between the two participating groups of speakers. A secondary aim of this experiment was to examine a phenomenon, which appeared in the previous conducted research (Červenková, 2017), which was the effort of the respondents to make the first phoneme of their response identical with the first phoneme of the name of particular object in...

Konceptualizace života v českých populárních písních (Příspěvek ke studiu jazykového obrazu světa) / Conceptualization of Life in the Czech Popular Lyrics (Contribution to the Study of the Linguistic Picture of the World)

Janovská, Zuzana January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines the conceptualization of life in the lyrics of Czech popular songs of 1960s. The thesis derives theoretically and methodologically from cognitively and culturally-based approaches to language, especially from the theory of conceptual metaphor and metonymy (e. g. Lakoff and Johnson) and the concept of language as a picture of the world (school of Lublin). At first the thesis analyses the semantics of lexeme life. The analysis is based on the data from dictionaries and it reaches the basics of the linguistic picture of life as it is anchored in common language. Simultaneously the thesis works with the picture of life (in contrast with death) how it is served in the literature about Czech folk culture. The main part of this study consists of almost a hundred interpretations of lyrics from the examined period, which depict human life in its various stages and forms (through oppositions of life - death, youth - old age, etc.). The analysis follows relevant semantic elements which participate on its conceptualization. The thesis describes systematically and in detail particularly metaphors (structural, ontological and orientational), metonymy, and also the image schemes which are associated with life (scheme of JOURNEY, CYCLE). The attention is paid to their specific language...

Na rozhraní lexikální a gramatické povahy vidu: studie očních pohybů / At the boundary between lexical and grammatical aspect: an eye tracking study

Kořenář, Michal January 2017 (has links)
