Bořivoj Brdička, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The subject of this dissertation is the use of digital technologies to support storytelling in the classroom. This thesis aims to introduce storytelling as an innovative method based on the principles of modern pedagogy, especially social constructivism, and determine the role of this methodology in the current curriculum. Another objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of methods and activities of digital storytelling including the examples of hardware and software instruments. Their value for practical use in digital storytelling was verified. The analysis of scientific literature was used in the theoretical part of this study. The work also includes the description of two cases of implementation and a description of their realization. In the conclusion the recommendations for the use of digital storytelling in practice are formulated. KEYWORDS: storytelling, methodology, constructivism, designing, educational technology

This diploma thesis deals with problems and diagnostics of students understanding of politics in the lessons social sciences. The theoretical part concerns several thematic units such definition of key terms and their relations, the theory of constructivism, the methodology of the pedagogical research or the system of political education at school. The practical part involves the qualitative research of students' understanding in two age categories, using the method of interview. Then, both groups of students were compared. On the basis of retrieved information the confrontation with frequently used coursebooks was created. The objective of the thesis Reflection of the Predicate Preconception in Studying Process in 6th Grade of Elementary School is to ascertain how the 6th year pupils (aged 12-13 years) think about the predicate. The thesis is grounded in constructivism which actively works with preconcepts, and is related to Czech language teaching. Predicate is described from the linguistic perspective as well as its didactical notion in the Framework Educational Program and in existing textbooks. 37 pupils from 4 schools in Prague completed a series of individual tasks specifically designed for the purpose of this study, and semi-structured interviews with these pupils were recorded, transcribed and analysed. The study shows that the pupils strongly prefer verbal predicate to its verb-noun variety, while they are still capable of suggesting a communication situation for either type of predicate. The study further investigates whether the pupils actively use nouns and adjectives as a non-verb part of a predicate. While adjectives were used frequently, using nouns proved to be challenging. The analysis proves that the pupils do not identify the predicate as a part of sentence important for the meaning of the sentence. Lebanese society involves the Western, i.e. liberal and democratic model, and the Islamic model of society as umma. This Lebanese model originated and has been maintained as a compromise between communities of different value paradigms where no significant shift can be expected as Lebanon is situated at the borders of their territorial expansion. According to my analysis on the basis of theoretical concepts of neo-realism and social constructivism the external players prevail over the internal players. External players have essential influence on the development of Lebanese society and state. It is also the regional status quo or regional and international order that influences the development in Lebanon and is responsible for almost every conflict, conflict initiation or struggle in Lebanon. Lebanese multiconfessional society has always made an effort to achieve and has achieved by itself a consensus for its coexistence. That is why the international community and organizations should promote and use their influence more to maintain the peaceful co-existence.

Medková, E. (2012): Constructivism in geography education. Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University in Prague. The thesis deals with a constructivist model used in Geography classes. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristic of this model and compares it with the traditional transmissive model. It describes the methods used in the constructivist teaching. Part of the practical section was the pedagogical experiment that compared the efficiency of constructivist and transmissive teaching. Experiment was realized in the Primary school in two parallel 7th grade classes. There were two geographical topics tought - monsoons and the development of the Asian states. The development of the Asian states topic was tought transmissively in one class and in a constructivist manner in the second class. As a second step the other topic of monsoons was tought and the teaching method in the classes was interchanged. The efficiency of the teaching was determined by the help of the didactic test and then statistically evaluated.
