Kulturmaffians myggor och tigrar : En litteratursociologisk studie av litteraturkritik och härskartekniker i en tidningsdebatt / Mosquitoes and tigers of the cultural mafia : A literary sociological study of literature criticism and master suppression techniques in a newspaper debateMattisson, Ramona January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this Master’s thesis is to examine how the literature criticism are in the Swedish media in the reception of the novel Mosquitoes and tigers from 2007 written by the Swedish author Maja Lundgren. A second aim is to examine how master suppression techniques have been used by the literature critics in the newspaper debate. This qualitative study is based upon a total of 52 articles and reviews from five big Swedish newspapers. The theoretical approach, literature criticism, mainly originates from the Swedish professor in Literature Science Tomas Forser and the literature scholar Gunnar Hansson. The theory of master suppression techniques founded by Berit Ås, Norwegian professor in Social Psychology, are used as an analytic tool. The method of analysis is textual, qualitative text analysis. The conclusion of this study shows that the literature criticism usually is divided in one ethical and one aesthetic part. The aesthetic criticism includes the book not being entertaining or well written or too long, and also that the form is a problem for the readers who do not know if the genre is fact or fiction. The criticism about the form issue is also ethical while the author can be vague about the truth. The ethical criticism also consists from the author using name of authentic people. Another conclusion of this study shows that mainly three of the master suppression techniques are visible in the debate: “making invisible”, “ridicule” and “heap blame/put to shame”. By merging various articles, it was possible to interpret the master suppression technique “double bind”. There was no sign of “withhold information”. This study also shows that the writer Maja Lundgren uses master suppression techniques herself. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Konst eller pedagogik? : Nutida dagspresskritik av bilderböcker / Art or pedagogy? : Contemporary reviews of picture books in daily pressHolmberg Strand, Åsa January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine views of picture books for children that reviewers in Swedish daily press express in their reviews in 2009 and 2010. The following questions were posed in the study: Are picture book reviews based on pedagogical criteria and/or aesthetic/literary criteria? Are picture books reviewed from an adult perspective and/or from a child perspective? Which elements of positive and negative criticism are to be found in picture book reviews? This qualitative study is based on 45 reviews of picture books in Swedish daily press. The theoretical approach is developed from four ways of looking at children literature that professor Maria Nikolajeva has compiled. The method used is idea analysis, which is a form of text-analysis. The results show that most of the reviews mainly were based on aesthetic/literary criteria, but many of them there were also based on pedagogical criteria. A common pedagogical criterion was if the book showed a desirable view or not. The results also show that there were both an adult perspective and a child perspective in the reviews. Positive and negative criticism indicated that a good picture book has an important message, provide a desirable view, and maintain high aesthetic/literary quality. In addition, it suits all ages, or is adapted to children.

En läroplan utan stort tolkningsutrymme? : En undersökning av Lgr11 ur ett läsarorienterat perspektiv / A Curriculim with Limited Space for Interpretation? : An Investigation of Lgr11 from a Reader - Response Theory PerspectiveSélsfors, Helena January 2014 (has links)
This essays aim is to investigate the possibilities of subjective interpretation of Lgr11, the Swedish curriculum for elementary school. The assignment that the Swedish authority Skolverket got in 2009, was to create a curriculum that would grant that the students achievements would not be influenced by any subjective opinions and that all elementary schools in Sweden will give an equivalent education. In the Government bill this is a theme throughout the text and the Minister of Education has also claimed that this document will leave very limited space for subjective reading and interpretation. He says that Lgr11, in contrast to the previous curriculim Lpo94, will clarify what the purpose of the different subjects is and on what grounds the assessment of the students should be based. The method used is the literary theories of reader – response as they are expressed by Literarycriticist Stanley Fish. To access a deeper perspective I also apply the ideas of thoughtcollectives as they are formulated by Epistemologist Ludwik Fleck. This essay indicates that there are complex problems in the text and argues that it contains valueladen, abstract words, contradictions and interpretable language. It illustrates problems that this can lead to when different readingcommunities and thoughtcollectives shall come to an agreement about what the text really means and how the students performance will be assessed.

När Pippi blev Pippi : en receptionsstudie av Pippi Långstrumptrilogin / When Pippi became Pippi : a Reception Study on The Trilogy of Pippi LongstockingLennartsdotter, Monika, Wadell, Lena January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to examine how The Trilogy of Pippi Longstocking, written by the author Astrid Lindgren, has been received by the critics in the Swedish daily press. A second aim is to examine how the critics could be of importance for the consecration of Pippi as a literary character. The study is mainly based on reviews from the daily press with nationwide coverage. The theoretical framework consists of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu’s theories of the literary field, and the method of the reviews is a qualitative text analysis. The literary character, Pippi Longstocking, and the new current in children’s literature are explained through the Russian literary scholar Michael Bachtin’s carnival theory. Based on the study our conclusions are that a female network was very important for the consecration of Pippi, as well as for the good criticism. The author, Astrid Lindgren, was herself essential for the consecration in her role as children’s books publishing editor at Rabén & Sjögren, where her own books were published. Bonnier’s rejection of the first manuscript of Pippi Longstocking played a major role for the consecration. As a consequence of the rejection Astrid Lindgren decided to change her character to a better behaved girl than the original. It is our conclusion that this change of character was of great importance for the consecration since that was the foundation for Pippi’s establishment as a classic literary figure. The study also shows that beside the female network there where a few men who became significant for the consecration. Their contribution consisted of bringing other perspectives and views to the literary character which gave rise to a big national and general debate on children, children’s upbringing, education and ethics. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Jack och Allt : En idéanalytisk studie av litteraturkritik / Jack and Allt : An idea analytic study of literary criticismHolmbom, Ida January 2008 (has links)
The aim of this Master's thesis is to study how generational identities are conveyed in the reception of two debut novels, Jack by Ulf Lundell and Allt by Martina Lowden. Both novels have been considered literary and social expressions of their generations. The empirical material consists of 14 reviews in Swedish daily press from the time of publication of Jack and Allt, respectively. The thesis revolves around the following questions: How is the generational identity defined in terms of lifestyle practices, milieus and other social circumstances? To what extent are structured factors such as gender and class considered? How are the critics considering the reflexive project of the self? I base the theoretical framework on Anthony Giddens' theories about identity creation in the late modern society. Idea analysis is used in the classification and analysis of the textual material. The model of analysis is based on factors that by Giddens are considered to affect the identity process. The result of the analysis shows that the generational identities expressed in the two novels appear very different. In the reviews discussing Jack, the identity is based on destructive lifestyle practices and is closely related to the political environment. In the reviews of Allt the identity is connected to a literary main theme that is constructed in relation to mediated influences. The conclusion suggests an increased understanding of the individual identity as a result of a reflexive process. / Uppsatsnivå: D

En bra bok Några komvuxelevers synpunkter på böcker och läsning / A Good Book. Opinions about Fiction and Reading among Adult StudentsHökås, Ulla January 1995 (has links)
This study is based on 26 essays about A Good Book, written by as many participants inSwedish classes in secondary education for adults. The object is to analyse the students'views on fiction and reading: What books they prefer, but also why and how they read.Objectivity and subjectivity in literary criticism is also discussed. Most favoured author both among men and women is Stephen King. The majority of thebooks mentioned are translated from English. The women also read historical and psychological novels while the men prefer fantasy. The question whether a book is goodor not is in the students' opinion only a matter of taste. They also defend their own lreading against all kinds of literary expertese.Mostly the students read for pleasure, but they also think that fiction can provide usefulinformation e.g. facts about other countries. They like to get deeply involved in thebooks they read and so there is a difference, not only between what books they like toread and what they are asked to read at school, but also between their personal responseto literature and the analytical approach favoured by the educational system.
