Análise numérica de uma tubulação enterrada submetida a carregamentos móveis / Numerical analysis of a buried pipe under live loads

Este trabalho apresenta um estudo sobre o comportamento de tubos metálicos enterrados, submetidos ao carregamento móvel de um veículo. Foram realizadas análises numéricas utilizando o método de elementos finitos para o cálculo da tensão vertical no solo, momento fletor, tensão normal e deformação diametral vertical do tubo. Foram analisados 630 modelos, obtidos da variação das características do solo (módulo de elasticidade) com o objetivo de representar diferentes níveis de compactação do solo, características do tubo (espessura da parede do tubo) e da altura da camada de recobrimento do solo. O programa utilizado nas análises numéricas foi o SIGMA/W do pacote Geostudio. Os resultados encontrados apontam que as maiores tensões no solo, momentos, tensões normais e deformações no tubo ocorrem devido ao carregamento móvel quando este se localiza exatamente acima do tubo. Observou-se que o aumento da espessura da camada de solo que recobre a tubulação causa uma diminuição de 15% a 55% das tensões verticais no solo, momentos fletores, tensões normais e deformações no tubo. Foram desenvolvidas equações para o cálculo das deformações para os casos estudados. Foi também desenvolvido um procedimento para a moldagem de corpos de prova de areia no estado fofo (índice de vazios máximo) para realização de ensaios triaxiais. / This paper presents a study on the behavior of buried metal pipes, subjected to the vehicle live load. Numerical analysis using the finite element method to calculate the vertical stress were made on the ground, bending moment, normal stress and diametral vertical pipe deformation. 630 models were analyzed, obtained from the variation of the soil characteristics (modulus) in order to represent different levels of soil compaction, the pipe characteristics (thickness of the pipe wall) and the height of the soil cover layer. The program used in numerical analysis was the SIGMA/W Geostudio package. The results show that the highest stresses on the ground moments, normal stresses and strains in the tube occur due to live loading when it is located just above the tube. It was observed that increasing the thickness of the layer of soil covering the pipe causes a decrease from 15% to 55% of the vertical tensions in the ground, bending moments, normal stress and strain on the pipe. Equations were developed to calculate the deformations in the cases studied. It has also developed a procedure for molding sand specimens into the soft state (maximum void ratio) to perform triaxial tests.

The Swedish Police Authority aims to increase diversity among employees within the authority. This is asserted in the Swedish Police Authority's own policies and action plans, which together with other internal documents are the subject of my qualitative study. The focus of this study is to look at how the use of the concept of diversity has changed within the Swedish Police Authority by using qualitative analysis of ideas and ideological context, the perspective of discursive psychology and neo-institutional theory. The aim is also to find out what is missing out in the current diversity discourse. My study reveals through an examination of a selection of The Swedish Police Authority’s document that there is a discrepancy between the external discourses on diversity and the internal norms that are to be found within the Swedish Police Authority.

Education policy implementation in a society in transition : a multivariate systems approach

At the best of times, education policy implementation is a difficult and uncertain process. Taking this as a point of departure, the researcher advanced the hypothesis that education policy implementation in a society in transition: is accompanied by a fragmentation of the pre-transition coherence in interpersonal relations among policy actors; is affected by a heightening of value conflicts and the emergence of competing interpretive schemes; is influenced by the perceived self-interest of policy actors; is affected by changing power relationships and structural adjustments; and reflects a general weakening of interpersonal, cultural, and structural linkages that had evolved in pre-transition years. The Indian education system in South Africa was studied as an exemplar of a system located in a society in transition. The data collated by means of three research strategies - historical report, questionnaire, and structured interview - gave strong support to the hypothesis. In addition, they pointed to the significance of variables such as policy content and policy quality, political interference and pressure, bias and favouritism among senior officials, religious, sectional, and language loyalties of participants, and loss of job satisfaction and morale among policy actors. These findings were discussed against the background of relevant literature. This concluded in the development_gf a theoretical model to explain education policy implementation in a society in transition. Basically, the model suggests that socio-political struggles in the larger society tend. to be replicated in the micro-contexts of the education system, producing fundamental alterations in the interpersonal, cultural, and structural aspects of the system, a general weakening of system linkages, and a progressive de-coupling of system components. All these changes recursively impact on and are impacted on by policymaking and policy implementation processes and outcomes. These impacts, however, tend to occur in a non-standard, nonlinear manner. The theoretical underpinnings of the model emerge from general systems theory, modern social systems theory, chaos/ complexity theory, conflict theory, structuration theory, organisation change theory, and loosely coupled systems theory. Finally, the study concludes with general propositions relating to education policy implementation in a society in transition and a set of research and management-oriented recommendations. / Educational Leadership and Management / D. Detecting Structural Defects Using Novel Smart Sensory and Sensor-less Approaches

Monitoring the mechanical integrity of critical structures is extremely important, as mechanical defects can potentially have adverse impacts on their safe operability throughout their service life. Structural defects can be detected by using active structural health monitoring (SHM) approaches, in which a given structure is excited with harmonic mechanical waves generated by actuators. The response of the structure is then collected using sensor(s) and is analyzed for possible defects, with various active SHM approaches available for analyzing the response of a structure to single- or multi-frequency harmonic excitations. In order to identify the appropriate excitation frequency, however, the majority of such methods require a priori knowledge of the characteristics of the defects under consideration. This makes the whole enterprise of detecting structural defects logically circular, as there is usually limited a priori information about the characteristics and the locations of defects that are yet to be detected. Furthermore, the majority of SHM techniques rely on sensors for response collection, with the very same sensors also prone to structural damage. The Surface Response to Excitation (SuRE) method is a broadband frequency method that has high sensitivity to different types of defects, but it requires a baseline. In this study, initially, theoretical justification was provided for the validity of the SuRE method and it was implemented for detection of internal and external defects in pipes. Then, the Comprehensive Heterodyne Effect Based Inspection (CHEBI) method was developed based on the SuRE method to eliminate the need for any baseline. Unlike traditional approaches, the CHEBI method requires no a priori knowledge of defect characteristics for the selection of the excitation frequency. In addition, the proposed heterodyne effect-based approach constitutes the very first sensor-less smart monitoring technique, in which the emergence of mechanical defect(s) triggers an audible alarm in the structure with the defect. Finally, a novel compact phased array (CPA) method was developed for locating defects using only three transducers. The CPA approach provides an image of most probable defected areas in the structure in three steps. The techniques developed in this study were used to detect and/or locate different types of mechanical damages in structures with various geometries.

本研究之目的在探討國民小學人事人員所遭遇之角色衝突類型、來源與原因,進而提出解決之道。研究之進行,首先針對角色衝突理論進行相關的探討,以建立基本的認識;其次針對影響學校人事人員角色衝突之兩大因素:組織因素與人事制度之設計進行更深入的討論與分析,並提出解決的建議。 另外,本研究經由立意取樣,針對十二位台北市公立國民小學的校長、行政人員、老師以及人事人員進行預擬題綱之深度訪談,分別針對:1.造成學校人事人員角色衝突的組織因素;2.造成學校人事人員角色衝突的人事制度因素;3.學校人事人員角色衝突的類型、來源與原因;4.角色衝突對個人的影響及因應方法,進行深度訪談,並整理、分析訪談結果。 最後,針對上述文獻探討與訪談結果之分析與討論,提出本研究之具體結論及建議,以作為學校人事人員面對角色衝突,及學校、主管機關從事制度改革時之參考。

Att spränga normer : om målstyrningsprocesser för jämställdhetsintegrering / Breaking Norms : On Management by Objectives for Gender Mainstreaming

How do management control systems function when under pressure to mainstream gender equality into a core business? This question is being discussed with an interpretive approach from both the institutional and the gender perspective. Empirical evidence stems from two longitudinal case studies within the Swedish public sector where management by objectives (MBO) is the current model for governmental control. The analysis is based on four aspects: management by objectives, gender mainstreaming, the concept of loose coupling from organization studies and institutional change as translation. The gender perspective highlights constructions that tend to enable or to hamper gender equality. The sociological institutional perspective sheds light over rules, norms and culture. In the empirical cases, it becomes evident that formal goals within MBO proved unable to overrule prevailing norms that have grounded a well established gendered (malestream) culture.  Control systems are designed to handle new issues; however, in the cases studied, this took place merely normatively and in line with the core business, not by changing the grounds on which the control system stands. The MBO model consequently lacks the ability to integrate gender in a transformative mode.

A growing body of work, however, focuses on studying intermediate levels of acceptability, sometimes referred to as gradience. To date, the bulk of this work has concerned itself with the exploration of human assessments of syntactic gradience. This dissertation explores the possibility to build a robust computational model that accords with these human judgements. -- We suggest that the concepts of Intersective Gradience and Subsective Gradience introduced by Aarts for modelling graded judgements be extended to cover deviant language. Under such a new model, the problem then raised by gradience is to classify an utterance as a member of a specific category according to its syntactic characteristics. More specifically, we extend Intersective Gradience (IG) so that it is concerned with choosing the most suitable syntactic structure for an utterance among a set of candidates, while Subsective Gradience (SG) is extended to be concerned with calculating to what extent the chosen syntactic structure is typical from the category at stake. IG is addressed in relying on a criterion of optimality, while SG is addressed in rating an utterance according to its grammatical acceptability. As for the required syntactic characteristics, which serve as features for classifying an utterance, our investigation of different frameworks for representing the syntax of natural language shows that they can easily be represented in Model-Theoretic Syntax; we choose to use Property Grammars (PG), which offers to model the characterisation of an utterance. We present here a fully automated solution for modelling syntactic gradience, which characterises any well formed or ill formed input sentence, generates an optimal parse for it, then rates the utterance according to its grammatical acceptability. -- Through the development of such a new model of gradience, the main contribution of this work is three-fold. -- First, we specify a model-theoretic logical framework for PG, which bridges the gap observed in the existing formalisation regarding the constraint satisfaction and constraint relaxation mechanisms, and how they relate to the projection of a category during the parsing process. This new framework introduces the notion of loose satisfaction, along with a formulation in first-order logic, which enables reasoning about the characterisation of an utterance. -- Second, we present our implementation of Loose Satisfaction Chart Parsing (LSCP), a dynamic programming approach based on the above mechanisms, which is proven to always find the full parse of optimal merit. Although it shows a high theoretical worst time complexity, it performs sufficiently well with the help of heuristics to let us experiment with our model of gradience. -- And third, after postulating that human acceptability judgements can be predicted by factors derivable from LSCP, we present a numeric model for rating an utterance according to its syntactic gradience. We measure a good correlation with grammatical acceptability by human judgements. Frottement saccadé dans les matériaux granulaire modèles / Characterisation of stick-slip in model granular materials

Cette étude a pour objectifs la caractérisation expérimentale des frottements saccadés dans les matériaux granulaires modèles constitués des billes de verre monodisperses en compression triaxiale drainée et l'identification des paramètres de contrôle. Cinq paramètres macroscopiques caractérisent ces frottements saccadés : la chute de déviateur et la contraction volumique, l'intermittence de déformation axiale, le module d'Young et le coefficient de Poisson. Les frottements saccadés affectent simultanément le déviateur et la déformation volumique. Le comportement macroscopique est globalement contractant tandis que le matériau tend vers un état limite critique en grandes déformations, à la manière des sables lâches. Cependant il présente localement, dans les phases de blocage qui suivent immédiatement les ruptures temporaires, le comportement dilatant des sables denses, qui obéit à une relation contrainte-dilatance linéaire et unique. Les frottements saccadés disparaissent au-delà d'une vitesse critique d'écrasement axial, qui dépend de la contrainte de confinement et de la taille des grains. Le module d'Young dynamique par propagation d'ondes varie avec la contrainte de confinement selon une loi de puissance. Le module d'Young quasi-élastique au départ des phases de blocage est constant à l'intérieur du domaine élastique, de même que le coefficient de Poisson. Le suivi par granulométrie laser et par analyse d'images des matériaux après un ou plusieurs essais triaxiaux permet de suivre l'évolution de la taille moyenne et de la forme des grains. Tandis que les instabilités par saccade disparaissent suite à un certain nombre d'essais, on observe, simultanément à une légère diminution du volume moyen, l'apparition progressive de populations d'objets non sphériques par une fusion des grains analogue au frittage. / The objectives of this study are the experimental characterisatino of the stick-slip instabilities in a model granular material and the identification of relevant control parameters. As monodisperse glass beads are subjected to drained triaxial compression tests, five macroscopic parameters characterize the stick-slip phenomenon: the deviator drop, the jump in volumetric contraction, the intermittence of the axial strain, Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio. The stick-slip events simultaneously affect the deviator stress and the volumetric strain. While the global material behavior is that of a loose sand, gradually contracting and hardening as it approaches its large strain critical state, its response in the “stick” phases immediately following the “slip” instabilities is similar to that of dense, dilatant sands, with a unique, linear stress-dilatancy relationship. Stick-slip events disappear beyond a critical axial strain rate, depending on the confining stress and on the grain diameter. The Young modulus associated to wave propagation varies with the confining stress according to a power law. The quasi-elastic modulus measured at the beginning of the stick phase is constant inside the elastic domain, as well as the Poisson ratio. The evolution of grain size and shape after one or several triaxial tests is monitored by laser granulometry and image analysis. The gradual vanishing of stick-slip events, on repeating the tests, is likely related to the global decreasing trend of average particle volume and to the formation of non-spherical objects, apparently by some phenomenon analogous to sintering.
