Efficient information and knowledge distribution in high-tech production units utilizing graphical user interfaces / Effektiv informations- och kunskapsspridning inom högteknologiska produktionsenheter genom grafiska användargränssnitt

Fall, Jakob, Klinc, Rebecca January 2016 (has links)
This study aims to examine potential efficiency gains within a manufacturing unit by implementing processes for knowledge and information distribution. A specialized software tool, implementing processes for knowledge and information distribution, was developed and then examined to see if any efficiency gains could be accomplished. The scientific questions to be addressed were: Will well-defined strategies and processes for information and knowledge management lead to higher efficiency within a manufacturing unit? Is a specialized software a useful tool and how should it be designed to facilitate efficient information and knowledge management? With the help of information management theories, interviews and a field study five main problem areas were found. To counter the problem areas and approach the technical aspect of this study human-computer interactions theories were used to develop three prototypes in an iterative process. The third and final prototype was evaluated by using user testing and interview questions. We found that well-defined strategies and processes for information and knowledge management lead to higher efficiency within a manufacturing unit. By using the specialized software tool it will be easier to facilitate efficient information and knowledge management and that general rules on how to create such a software exists. Due to the result and reactions from the employees our recommendations is for FLIR Systems AB to conduct an implementation study using our software as the frontend.

Processo de seleção de Sistemas de Informação do Gerenciamento de Projetos (SIGP): um estudo multicaso / The Selection Process of Information Systems Project Management (PMIS): a multi case study

Na\'Lamba, Alexandre 08 November 2012 (has links)
Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) has been highlighted in project management environment for its advantages and benefits. While not enough to ensure success of the project, provide project managers with decision making support for planning, control activities, applying techniques and decision making. The PMIS do not impose limits on companies. By contrast, create alternatives so the challenge becomes the right choice, as opposed to choosing the correct technology solution. When a technological solution is appropriate, it is assumed that it has any real use for the company. This paper aims to examine empirically how companies select the PMIS through multicase study, using qualitative research, descriptive and exploratory. The study involved three companies with over 10 years experience in Project Management, information was collected through interviews and questionnaires. The study results show that the logic of selection of PMIS proposed by literature differs with the practices of the companies studied and these between them. One explanation of the differences between the companies, both in the selection process as the use of PMIS is the maturity of the company, project characteristics and needs of users. Philosophy selection of PMIS in companies with higher maturity level is more than preventing the problem, since the companies with low maturity is more focused on symptoms of problem (features). Company with high maturity uses high-end PMIS and low maturity companies use low-end PMIS. However, the degree of importance of PMIS is shorter in businesses with a high level of maturity. The level of maturity and complexity of projects influence how the selection of PMIS is made and use the features of PMIS is limited depending on the needs of the company.

(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The Construction and Demolition Waste (C&DW) problems involve all phases of its management, from generation to final destination. The amount of waste generated, which is mostly bulky materials, the lack of adequate deposition areas, the lack of control of the municipality in both the amount generated and the waste disposal are some of the challenges faced by municipal managers. Protecting management information systems: Virtual Private Network competitive advantage

Sirisukha, Sid Unknown Date (has links)
Information security technologists and business scholars are motivated by a desire to understand how and to what extent the application of IT within enterprise systems leads to improved and secured organizational performance. An effective relationship between business and IT professionals is a primary determinant of success in gaining business advantage through the enterprise system. As business innovation has relied increasingly on partnerships between business and IT professional, a different perspective of how IT professionals view their organizational contributions was needed for organizations to remain competitive. Business knowledge is essential if IT professionals are to create linkages with other organizational units and have a wider perspective about business objectives, thus achieving fit between IT and organizational strategies. Organizations have started responding to this challenge by demanding more business acumen in their IT staff. The focus of this study is on the knowledge that is beyond that of independent business and IT only domain knowledge of information security. Therefore, technical areas of knowledge, such as hardware and software, all of which are closely associated with IT skills, are not discussed in this thesis. This is not to declare that such knowledge is not important. Clearly technical knowledge is part of the IT professional's overall information security technology expertise, but this study is about the organization proficiency of business and the IT professional, and is therefore interested in what enables business and IT professionals to apply their business domain and technical knowledge in ways that are beneficial to the organization and to act cooperatively with their customers and business partners. The purpose of this study is to employ the triangulation method to identify the theoretical links and empirically examine the association between business and IT perspective of information security. An important contribution of this study is the identification of business and IT perspectives on information security technology. By establishing the link between business and IT, the study focuses and evaluates Virtual Private Network (VPN) as an information security technology to find out if VPN can secure and gain competitive advantage by partisan business process and organization performance. This study articulates distinctive characteristics of Virtual Private Network and management processes that extend the range of applicability across diverse business segments. It distinguishes between business and IT and explains why the exploitation of a complementary set of related information security entities (such as VPN) across multiple functions create competitive vi advantages even across a diverse set of businesses that have limited opportunity to exploit business process and organization performance. The most important direct predictor of this study is a high level of communication between business and IT. However, one cannot mandate meaningful communication between individuals. IT people have to earn the right to play a meaningful role in management forums. Based on the findings from this study, one important way for an IT person to be heard is for him/her to devote the time necessary to create competitive advantage and develop shared domain knowledge, the most influential construct in the research model. An IT person needs to understand the leverage points of the industry, the history and current issues of the business units, and to learn to apply business oriented objectives in the application of technology to business problems. This change in view would help focus their attention on security technology and ideas that could produce the most benefit and create competitive advantage, rather than those that offer the most technical promise.

Tsai, Ting-Pang 05 July 2004 (has links)
Although the government has actively advocating the concept of the ocean-state country promoting sustainable development of fishery resource, there still remains a lack of adequate fishery policy and human resource training program in coherence with the fishery industry. Taiwan¡¦s far sea fishery industry is the earliest pioneer expanding business scope globally. As a result, it shall have the keenest tendency toward digitization. On the contrary, no total-solution for digitization has been ever offered to the fishery industry. This is due to that MIS experts have no knowledge about fishery while fishery experts have no knowledge about Management Information System (MIS). This gap eventually leads to the failure in technology adaptation of fishery industry. This research is based on a strategic analysis study aiming at competitiveness of far sea fishery after digitalization. Six organization competencies are designed and constructed as the framework of the research, relevant information system are later incorporated into the strategic structure. In this industrial scale and case research, six organization competencies, which are competencies in strategy, information, logistic, quality control, and global logistic. It is hoped that the utilization of information system on fishing vessel can help improve the corporate competitiveness by grasping the market changes in time, enhancing corporate effectiveness, and maintaining stable productivity. Furthermore, four recommendations are generated for Company F¡¦s digitalization strategy: 1. Gradually adopt the e-information system according to the corporate digitalization plan to minimize the operation cost. 2. Using the employee needs within the company as the guideline, develop rapid response system and integrate the operation system in order to improve its competitiveness. 3. Fully utilize the science and technology to offset problems caused by lack of manpower. 4. A CEO¡¦s commitment, high-level executives¡¦ insistence, and general employees¡¦ common views are all definitely needed and shared in order to implementing the digitalization strategy. Last, this research proposed the concept of e-fisherman whose intangible assets are to apply the technology when fishing instead of fishing without technological support. Expansion Planning of Distribution Substations with Dynamic Programming and Immune Algorithm

Lin, Chia-Chung 24 June 2005 (has links)
The thesis investigates the optimal expansion planning of substations for the distribution system of Taipei City District of Taiwan Power Company. The small area load forecasting is executed with the support of Outage Management System(OMS) database. The capacity expansion of distribution substations is obtained by considering the annual load growth of each service area to achieve the cost effectiveness of substation investment. The geographic information of each service zone has been retrieved form the OMS data. With the land use planning of Taipei City Government, the load density of each small area for the target year is derived according to the final floor area and development strength of the land base. The load forecasting of each small area is then solved by considering the load growth of each customer class, which is then used for the expansion planning of substations. After determining the small area load forecasting for the final target year, the center of gravity method is applied to find the geographic blocks of all substations and the corresponding service areas at the target year. The power loading of each small area is used to calculate the power loading loss of which service area to solve the optimal location within the block for each substation. Based on the annual load forecasting of all small areas, the expansion planning of distribution substations for Taipei City District is derived by Dynamic Programming(DP) and Immune Algorithm(IA) to achieve minimization of power loading loss with subject to the operation constraint. By the proposed methodology, the unit commitment of distribution substations is determined to meet the load growth of service area and achieve power loading loss minimization of distribution systems.

Fault Restoration of Distribution System by Considering Customer Service Priority

Yeh, Chao-ching 10 February 2003 (has links)
When a permanent fault occurs in distribution systems, the fault location should be detected, isolated and the un-faulted but out of service areas have to be restored. The outage areas can be minimized by the switching operation based on the system load characteristics. By integrating the Outage Management Information System (OMIS), the connectivity of customers and feeder/transformer, the Customer Information System (CIS), the Automated mapping /Facility Management (AM/FM) with the customer load patterns, the hourly load demand and the service priority index of each distribution feeder and each service zone are calculated. By this way, the service restoration of the most power demand and customers can be obtained for the fault contingency of distribution system. To enhance the effectiveness of switching operation for fault contingency of distribution system, the Expert System with CLIPS has been developed by considering the operation rules in the application software program. A underground distribution system with 26 feeders in Kaohsiung District of Taiwan Power Company has been selected for computer simulation to solve the proper switching operation by taking into account the service priority of customers. It has been verified that the proposed methodology can restore the customer power service effectively by Expert System with distribution operation rules.
