Domov bezdomovců: sociální konstrukce nekonvenčního domova / .Home of Homeless: Social Construction of Non-conventional Home

Kotyk, Lukáš January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the phenomena of homelessness as a situation in which individuals do not have enough money to secure the conventional accommodation. This leads to them constructing their home in the public space or squatting abandoned buildings. This thesis refuses to interpret homelessness as a pathological phenomenon or as a violation of order (in order to demonstrate this, individual approaches are usually being used). The author of the thesis presents homelessness as a consequence of the economic system which orders out a certain part of population. This part cannot attain the minimum measure of the chance to consume which would sustain a secure life. The concept of hybrid, which is the integral part of the actor-network-theory and it originates in the works of Bruno Latour, allows us to interpret home through the interconnection of material objects and social relationship. This approach leads to disengagement from the atypical form of unconventional homes and to thinking about them as about a normal way of housing. The basis of the ethnographic research is the perspective of the material culture studies. In the framework of this perspective, individual dwellings (inhabited by the class of the poorest) are examined. The research contains an analysis of nine such dwellings in...

Povrchy minulosti: analýza materiálních znaků každodennosti 70. a 80. let v seriálu Vyprávěj / The surfaces of the past: analysis of the everydayness in 1970s and 1980s in the serial Vyprávěj

Pernikářová, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the way material artifacts participate in the creation of the retrospective depiction of the past in the second season and the third season of the series Vyprávěj, which takes place in the years 1873 - 1989. In the empirical part of the thesis a semiotic analysis was made. The goal of the thesis was to determine which material artifacts evoke the atmosphere of the past in the series and if these artifacts can be considered the carrier of visual information and semantic levels. We focused on stage properties which can be found in the settings of individual households, workplaces and other places which can be seen in the series and we made an analysis from the viewpoint of their occurrence. At the same time in connection with the chosen material artifacts we focused on their function in the narration and their meaning for depicting the past. The study also deals with the ways the viewers of the series remember the period of time which the series depicts. As a part of the analysis the viewers' opinions recorded on the official Facebook websites of the series Vyprávěj which were related to the stage properties and the memories of the period of normalization were gathered.

Vícekriteriální hodnocení životní úrovně domácností, indexy materiální deprivace / Multi-criteria evaluation of living standards of households, indices of material deprivation

Schenková, Tereza January 2010 (has links)
The thesis on the topic "Multi-criteria evaluation of living standards of households, indices of material deprivation" compares two approaches to the measurement of poverty and social exclusion. The first is an absolute concept, which is based on the measurement of the material deprivation. The second is a relative concept, which is currently in the European Union represented by the indicator "at-risk-of-poverty rate". Before being applied on the real data from 2008 for the Czech Republic, both concepts are theoretically described and explained. The indicator "at-risk-of-poverty rate" is calculated based on the results of a survey on the income and the living conditions of the Czech population. The material deprivation is then analysed for different groups of people of the Czech population and the indices of material deprivation are calculated. In the final section, the European Union member countries are compared according to these two concepts.

Doma je doma? Expati a jejich formy utváření domova / Home sweet home? Expats and their various ways of creating a home

Holubová, Kateřina January 2015 (has links)
This study focuses on expats, professionals and specialists from English-speaking countries who were sent by their employers to work abroad in Switzerland. They together with their families, were asked to move to a foreign country and start new lives. Although the relocation does bring a change in career and in most cases, a better personal economic situation, it also brings with it, big life changes. The most obvious changes are associated with separation from their ancestral homes and families, and the need for the establishment of new ones. The central point of this study is the question of what helps to create these new homes and what is involved in this sphere. The fieldwork, which was defined by cohabitation with the families, consisted of observation and analysis to determine the social and material practices through which expatriate families relate to their homes - and how it was narratively reflected. Some major points of observation included the universal need for the families to have with them, objects of a material nature that linked their new home to the original and contemporary home, and a tendency to establish social ties with other expats as a substitution of the family support network. Also observed were the aspects of the adaptation of the family members to their new homes and...

Příjmová chudoba pracujících osob v České republice / Working poor in the Czech Republic

Šustová, Šárka January 2015 (has links)
WORKING POOR IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC Abstract Even though poverty is not the death or life question in developed countries it is necessary to pay attention to it. The topic of poverty, social cohesion and social exclusion plays now an increasing role in the EU agenda; working poor started to be explored in 1990s there. Working poor are people poor despite working. Work should serve as a protection of poverty, it should guarantee better living standard to employed people in comparison to those dependent on social protection. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the issue of working poor, to identify them, to find out the reasons why they are poor and to develop measures to help them not to be poor. This thesis brings a comprehensive view on the working poor in the Czech Republic. The focus is on the poverty rate as well as characteristics of working poor. Methods for measuring this phenomenon have not been fully developed yet, there is still not a consensus on the most suitable methods. Different methods are introduced, compared and critically evaluated in the first - theoretically oriented - part of the thesis. Combination and modification of existing methods creates a base for methodology used in this thesis. The core part of the thesis is dedicated to the detailed analysis of working poor in the...
