Engström, Olivia, Möller Nilsson, Lova January 2022 (has links)

Ensamma tillsammans till vänster om kompassen : En enkätanalys av Breadtubes politiska påverkan på sin publik / Alone together to the left of the compass : A survey analysis of the political effect of Breadtube on its audience

Enocson, Dante January 2021 (has links)
Streaming on Twitch and creating content for YouTube is a relatively new platform for politically aimed content. This study aims to find out, through surveying the platform forums of Breadtube, if this content has changed the users political views over the course of two years. The survey shows that watching Breadtube clearly has changed the participants in their political affiliation, so the discussion part of the study goes over what effect this political shift might in turn affect and in different ways how this new life in media affects both consumer and creator.

Kraaij, Julia January 2021 (has links)
Eat, Sleep, Stream, Repeat : A quantitative study comparing the streaming behavior of Swedish consumers of ages 20-30 and 40-60.

Jakobsson, Betty, Ovik, Moa January 2023 (has links)
Background: The market for streaming services has grown in Sweden, perhaps because of the country’s high technology level and high trust in digital payments, both of which are necessary to stream videos online and pay subscription fees. The usage of streaming services and the motivational factors for choosing them are dependent on many different variables, such as cultural and economic situations as well as individual needs. Comparing the streaming behavior between different age groups could provide important insights regarding the future marketing activities of streaming companies. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate if there are differences in streaming behavior and the factors for choosing streaming services between the age groups 20-30 and 40-60 in Sweden.  Method: The study follows a positivism paradigm since it aims to explain a social phenomenon by finding relations between different variables. Through a deductive approach, two models are used and tested by the empirical findings. A quantitative analytical questionnaire was published, and the empirical data was coded and analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics to find differences between the two independent sample groups.  Conclusion: The results suggest that there is a difference in the streaming behavior and motivational factors of Swedish streamers in age groups 20-30 and 40-60. In addition, it is suggested that the introduction of a hybrid video-on-demand service would not be successful if introduced to the sample group, mainly due to a negative attitude towards advertisements in streaming.

Online Threats to Journalists in Sweden and the US : An investigation into the orgnizational protections of journalists in an era of outrage-culture

von Cotzhausen Modin, Anneli January 2022 (has links)
The growing presence of social media in our modern-day world has changed the nature of journalism, as the introduction of Twitter as a tool in modern newsrooms has introduced new threats against journalists. This subject of Twitter in the newsroom has been thoroughly researched in the past; however, the research has largely been quantitative and the consequences of the behavior of journalists using Twitter somewhat less explored. Therefore, this research aims to answer the following questions: How has twitter affected the newsroom? How do journalists cope with online threats and hate on Twitter? and How do Aftonbladet (Sweden) and The New York Times (US) protect their journalists from threats and hate on Twitter? The research methods for this study have mainly been from semi-structured qualitative interviews with six journalists. Interviews were chosen to get a deeper understanding of individual experiences at large news organizations. It explores two different newspapers, the Swedish based Aftonbladet and US based The New York Times. The theoretical framework consisted of the Spiral of Silence Theory and Uses and Gratifications Theory. The findings indicate that (1) Twitter effects the newsrooms in terms of online threats, causes journalists and news organizations to cater to the few, Twitter can negatively affect people, and creates the opportunity for journalists to become brands outside of their employer; (2) journalists cope with online hate and threats by reporting threats, ignoring threats or hate, filtering social media, turning off their phones and avoiding topics; and lastly (3) Aftonbladet recognized that social media use is up to the journalist and that there should be less reliance or emphasis on the platform, they protect their journalists by offering training for the current online environment (threats training, persona training). While training is unknown for The New York Times, the organization put too much emphasis on the platform as a reporting and feedback tool which led to providing little protection for journalists who receive hate and threats on the platform (unless threats are deemed as a physical danger to the journalist).

Framing the Russia-Ukraine war : The case of the most popular Russian and Ukrainian Telegram news channels

Volkohon, Karl January 2022 (has links)
This is a study of how the most popular Telegram news channels in Russia and in Ukraine framed the Russia-Ukraine war during the first weeks of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Telegram is one of the most popular social media in Russia and Ukraine, it is a source of news for many people in both countries, and it had been used for propaganda before. This makes the Telegram news channels a relevant research topic in light of the fact that the war still continues in late 2022. The author uses his Ukrainian and Russian language skills and background to add to the war framing and propaganda research, especially in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The study uses framing analysis to find the specific frames of the war. This work partially detects the war-related frames which were used in other military conflicts. Moreover, it finds new frames which were unique for the Russia-Ukraine war. The findings show that the most of the used frames are different between the countries, like framing the war as a necessity in the Russian case and a judgemental style of writing in Ukrainian case. However, there are some similar frames which are still used differently by the sides, like dehumanizing strategies to describe the enemy or historical narratives.

Eskola, Elisia January 2017 (has links)

Jevtic, Nikola January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine opinion texts and news articles concering the debate about whether or not Sweden should join Nato. The question about a Swedish Nato membership has been dead for quite a while, but a study from the SOM-institute in 2015 showed that for the first time in decades a majority of the swedees was in favour of joing Nato.   This study uses a quantative method to examine several aspects of the debate and reporting in the following news papers: Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Sydsvenskan and Svenska Dagbladet. The research goes into bias, the general charateristics of the reporting and how Russia is portrayed. Russia has lately been viewed as an antagonist of Nato. Therefore, it was deemed probable that the portraying of Russia could have an impact on the way swedes percieve Nato.   The results of the study shows that the majority of the text published in relation to the topic were opinion texts. There was a general pattern were the political colour of the newspaper had some effect on the published material, but not enough that it could be deemed as being biased biased.   Russia were often portrayed in a negative tone and was also often portrayed as being a threat to other european countries.

Andersson, Elfrida January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how two Swedish newspapers, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet, described the US occupation of Iraq (2003) and the Russian annexation of Crimea (2014). The questions examined are: How did DN and SvD form their news report regarding the US occupation of Iraq and the Russian annexation of Crimea? How were the involved countries (The US, Russia, Iraq and Crimea (Ukraine) etc.) portrayed? What kind of ideological messages can be told from the articles?  Using the analysis method of Berglez (2019), as well as the method of critical discourse analysis (CDA) by Norman Fairclough (1995), ten news articles from each newspaper were analyzed. Theories used are the Gramscian theory of hegemony, the Bourdieu field theory and framing theory. The study shows that there are differences in how the two interventions were portrayed. The newspapers correspondents appeared to picture the conflicts in a way that may reflect the reporters own view of the conflict. Especially the SvD reporters appeared to be critical of the US war in Iraq. Both newspapers were prone to portraying Russia in a negative way as well as the US as a legitimate power. DN, to a greater extent than SvD, reproduced Russian stereotypes.
