Användarcentrerad utveckling av dynamiska moduler : En studie baserad på agil utveckling / User-centered development of dynamic modules : A study based on agile developmentHaji Karimian, Josef, Eriksson, Marcus January 2017 (has links)
This report describes the process and steps in detail that needed to be taken in order to meet the end users’ needs. The purpose of this study is to develop a dynamic module based on user-centered design (UCD) for Pulsen’s (pulsen.se) new website using the con-tent management system (CMS) SiteVision. UCD integrated with agile development methodologies is an effective combination to increase the focus of a development project on the end users’ needs. In this study we show the pervasiveness of the two methods combined in a development project. The module’s functionality is to allow the end user to quickly - and without effort - sort and filter news articles, events and job postings into lists that will be embedded and reusable on their new website. Manual adaptation of custom modules was configured directly through JavaScript code which made them error prone, causing the modules not to function properly. To combat this problem, we used contextual inquiry (CI) along with usability testing as data gathering methods with both Pulsen’s editors and external participants. The usability tests were used to plan and evaluate the functionality of the prototype in order to make it as user-friendly as possible. The study resulted in an interface with user defined variables derived from a JavaScript module.

UNDERSTANDING PURPOSE AND CIRCUMSTANTIAL CONTEXT IN THE USE OF EDUCATIONAL GAMES : Designing a Search Function and Updating a Metadata ModelLundqvist, Henrik January 2012 (has links)
As the amount of educational games on the market increases it becomes daunting task for pedagogues to find the most relevant and effective educational games for their teaching activities. In 2012 a metadata model was suggested to streamline descriptions of educational games for a database. This thesis identifies the need for an advanced search function which takes into consideration the notions of purpose and contextual circumstance of using educational games in order for such a database to be of greater usefulness for users. This thesis presents a design of such a search function, based on the theories of Purushotma (2005), Pannese and Carlesi (2007), Charsky (2010) and Reinders and Wattana (2011). Furthermore this thesis provides an updated metadata model to support such a search function. In the future the search function could be polished from a usability perspective and further developed to incorporate other types of serious games.

Case study: Extending content metadata by appending user contextSvensson, Martin, Pettersson, Oskar January 2006 (has links)
Recent developments in modern computing and wireless networks allow mobile devices to be connected to the Internet regardless of their physical location. These mobile devices, such as smart phones and PDAs, have turned into powerful multimedia units allowing users to become producers of rich media content. This latest development contributes to the ever-growing amount of digital material existing on the World Wide Web, and at the same time creates a new information landscape that combines content coming from both, the wired and mobile Internet. Thus, it is important to understand the context or settings in which mobile devices are used, and what is the digital content produced by the different users. In order to gain more knowledge about this domain, we have investigated how to extend the standard metadata related to content with a metadata domain describing the context, or settings in which the content has been created. In order to limit the scope of our work, we have focused our efforts in a specific case taking place in a project called AMULETS. The AMULETS-project contains all of the elements we need in order to resemble the contextual setting in a metadata model. Combined with the technical metadata associated to the digital content, we try to display the benefits of capturing the different attributes of the context that were present when the content was generated. Additionally, we have created a proof-of-concept Entity Relation (ER)-diagram which proposes how the metadata models can be implemented in a relational database. As the nature of the thesis is design-oriented, a model has been developed and it will be illustrated throughout this report. The aim of the thesis is to show how it is possible to design new metadata models that combine both relevant attributes of the context and content in order to develop new educational activities supported by location-based services.

METADADOS PARA PRESERVAÇÃO E SEGURANÇA DO DIÁRIO DE CLASSE ELETRÔNICO DA UFSM / METADATA FOR PRESERVATION AND SECURITY OF ELECTRONIC GRADEBOOKS AT UFSMLuz, Dulce Elaine Saul da 30 September 2011 (has links)
The public education institutions are trying to follow the technological advances and aim to
search for the evolution in education that increasingly appears every day in its organizational
environment. This research aimed to investigate, evaluate and analyze the document
Gradebook at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) in relation to its information
management, preservation and security. The methodology used in this study was analytical
exploratory combined with the documental analysis from the information in the literature
review and, the case study technique. Therefore, we performed a bibliographical research of
the legislation and the document archiving management with a qualitative approach. The
data collection was performed through meetings, interviews, observation and diagnose with
the different users involved in the considered process, where we searched to verify the
procedures and the current conditions of the Gradebooks at the Didactic Departments. As a
result of this study we suggest a model of metadata for the Electronic Gradebooks in UFSM,
aiming to improve the production, flow, storage, access, security and preservation of the
information. The proposed model suggests a set of requirements for computerized
management of documents, specified in the standard e-ARQ-Brazil, which specifies all the
activities and technical operations of the document archiving management from production,
processing, use, archiving and final destination. This study was completed with its overall
goal reached, which is the development of the model for implementation of Electronic
Gradebooks, according to the rules and archival policies of the institution and the
government, aiming at the preservation and safety of DC UFSM for a long time through
the metadata defined for this document as model, and Brazil-ARQ, determining the best way
for their management, preservation and security.

An investigation of the development and adoption of educational metadata standards for the widespread use of learning objectsKrull, Greig Emil January 2005 (has links)
This research investigates the development and adoption of educational metadata standards for the widespread use of learning objects. Learning objects, metadata, the related IEEE standard and the various application profiles derived from the standard are discussed. A number of standards and specifications for educational metadata used to describe learning objects are explored, namely the Dublin Core, IMS, SCORM, ARIADNE, CanCore and the UK LOM Core. Three metadata editors and the experience with using one of them, RELOAD, is described. These educational metadata specifications are used in a practical metadata implementation scenario and the experiences are extrapolated to derive a localised instance of the generic IEEE standard. A new application profile is proposed, “RU LOM Core”, for the South African higher education context. Some existing results are confirmed about the complexity of using the IEEE standard and it is demonstrated that it is possible to instantiate the standard for South African conditions. The results are largely qualitative and based on practical experience. However, the results concur with results from related research. Although the development of an application profile is certainly not new, the development of RU LOM Core illustrates that the IEEE standard, developed largely within the northern hemisphere, can be adapted to work in the South African scenario. RU LOM Core has been developed for the South African higher education environment and takes linguistic and cultural diversity and the low rate of technological literacy into consideration. The lessons learned and the proposed LOM core can be built upon in further research and collaboration to use and support the use of such standards within South Africa.
