______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The present dissertation is an ethnography of body techniques among the female beauty universe of Maputo. I intend to comprehend the symbolization of body and beauty, while paying attention to gestures, discourses and practices from the perspective of some of the women I met. This work is, in a more specific way, a description of body practices observed in the body's relation with its ornaments. Ornaments are understood here as any body mark, hair, garments and objects that compounds the feminine aesthetics. While following the different local emphases over each part of the body, I realized that the head is highlighted; hair, in its turn, is the main and most coveted object among the women I met.
