Křesťanské aspekty v paliativní péči a doprovázení / Christian Aspects of Palliative CareKosourová, Noemi January 2011 (has links)
In my work I deal with the issue of palliative care, which includes variables such as illness, pain, suffering and dying. The first part is focused on these facts, which the terminally ill meet in several variations over time, they consider the issues that affect the essence of their lives and are confronted with the reality. I tried to enlarge the general view around the patient and of his problems with the Christian view , ie the possibility to browse the desperate hope that exceeds life and death. For Christians this hope means Jesus Christ .For the patient to receive this hope there is the Christian Church. The second part of this work deals with specific help, such as companionship, which is the work of chaplains and other Christians, whether in volunteer work, or experts in any of the religious establishments. In conclusion, I try to approach the issue of euthanasia, which just highlights the need for human and compassionate palliative care.

Psychiatrie, duševní nemoc a kultura / Psychiatry, mental illness and cultureMüller, Matyáš January 2011 (has links)
The aim of the dissertation is to treat psychiatry and mental illness from the anthropological point of view. The topic is treated at three levels. First, I describe psychiatry as a specific culture's product, and I explore how it constitutes itself as an unbiased science. I conclude that in spite of developing its scientific aspect, its human-science aspect is neglected, stuck in the 19th century's paradigm of evolutionism. Although there is a number of sources of a new less scientistic and ethnocentric and more reflexive paradigm nowadays, it still seems to be more a vision than reality due to the institutional toughness of the present paradigm. Second, I study "mental illness" as an abstract concept. I ask if the Western psychiatry's classification is universal and I explore various culturally specific forms of mental illness and its conceptualizations. Third, partially grounded in my fieldwork, I ask how abstract psychiatric terminology is embodied in a concrete human being and how the sufferer's point of view differs from the one of the professional in the mental health care. The dissertation intends to show that despite all the three levels being interlocked, their unity is not self-evident but is always constructed and contested.

Konstrukce "Zdraví" v biomedicínském diskurzu / The Biomedical Construction of "Health"Nová, Nikola January 2014 (has links)
Nikola Žáková The Biomedical Construction of "Health" Thesis Prague 2014 ABSTRACT This thesis focuses on the analysis of biomedical categories of "health", "illness" and "prevention". The aim is to determine how these categories are used in two case studies - "diabethes melitus 2" and "hepatitis B, C" - in the periods 1989-1990, 1995-1996, 2002-2003 , 2006-2007. "Health" is currently conceived as a "norm" that we should strive to meet. Through categories of "health", "disease", "prevention" and through the action of the discourse of risk and individual responsibility (for health of ourself and also for the health of the entire community), is desribed how the normative social expectations about health are shaped in the medical articles. We constantly monitor our health and we manage our behavior according to the potential "risks". This thesis examines how the institution of medicine influences the lives of individuals in society, on the basis of content analysis and discourse analysis of case studies from the renowned medical journal Časopis lékařů českých. Keywords: health, disease, prevention, risk, biopower, (self)disciplining

Kineziofobie, její prediktory a souvislosti u vybraných chronických onemocnění - teoretický přehled / Kinesiophobia, her predictors and consequences in selected chronic diseases - theoretical reviewSchwarzová, Kristýna January 2021 (has links)
Title: Kinesiophobia, her predictors and consequences in selected chronic diseases - theoretical review Objectives: To review the issue of the occurrence of kinesophobia in various chronic diseases and to identify its predictors. Methods: The diploma thesis was prepared in the form of a literature search using electronic resources of the National Medical Library, the Central Physical Education Library and professional databases Pubmed, EBSCO, SCORPUS, Medline, Web of Science. The first half of the work summarized all the theoretical background and knowledge of kinesophobia and selected chronic diseases. The second half was focused on the processing of the issue of kinesophobia in selected chronic diseases and on the mapping of their predictors. Results: Based on the processing of available resources dealing with the issue of kinesophobia in selected chronic diseases, a comprehensive overview was created. In patients with chronic low back pain, high levels of kinesophobia were most often associated with chronic pain, functional impairment associated with the disease, obesity, low levels of education, and emotional states (anxiety, depression). In coronary heart disease, high levels of kinesophobia were associated with a lack of understanding of the need for physical activity, social support,...

Senzorické a senzitivní dysfunkce u neurodegenerativních postižení bazálních ganglií. / Sensory and sensitive dysfunctions in neurodegenerative disorders of the basal ganglia.Kopal, Aleš January 2019 (has links)
Complex functions of the basal ganglia are affected by numerous sensory and sensitive stimuli. In our studies, we investigated parameters of sense of smell and vision in neurodegenerative diseases of the basal ganglia - Parkinson's disease (PD) and Huntington's disease (HD). In the first study, we use Odourized Markers Test (OMT) to determine its applicability in PD patients, and to determine whether it distinguishes olfactory disorders between neurodegenerative and other disorders. Results show that OMT is applicable for PD patients and comparable to Sniffin' Sticks as it demonstrates gains of lower scores in PD patients compared to healthy subjects, but they do not differentiate other etiology of olfactory disorders. In the next study, we tested the pleasantness of odor stimulants in PD patients using New test of odor pleasantness (NTOP). We investigated suitability and validity of its use. We found that PD patients had lower odor rating score compared to healthy group correlated with Sniffin' Sticks and OMT. In the following study, we examined whether PD patients with visual hallucinations (PDH+) have structural retinal changes measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and functional retinal changes examined by 2,5% contrast sensitivity test compared to PD patients without hallucinations...

Hippokratovský spis O svaté nemoci. Překlad, komentář a úvodní studie / The Hippocratic treatise On the Sacred Disease. Translation, commentary and introductory studyOrszágh, Ján January 2012 (has links)
The treatise On the sacred disease is one of the oldest works included in the Hippocratic corpus and one of the finest examples of the Greek rationalism. Considered to be written in the last decades of the 5th century BC it is concerned with the issue of epilepsy, the disease called "sacred" by magicians and wandering cathartic priests that the author denotes as mere charlatans. According to him, epilepsy is no way more sacred nor more divine than other sicknesses, he places its origin into the brain and claims that it is a hereditary illness. In the introductory study, the character and the structure of the treatise are outlined, it is argued that it was delivered as a speech, the issues of the datation, autorship, reception and textual tradition are discussed. The study is followed by the first translation of the Sacred disease into Czech. In the extensive commentary, apart of the explanation of the text, many problems such as the author's conception of the divine, his sources and some other theoretical issues discussed by scholars are presented and their solution is proposed.
