The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of a qualified e-learning instructor from e-learners&rsquo / perspectives by submitting a questionnaire to e-learners of &ldquo / CSIT444-Online Web Design&rdquo / course offered through the means of distance learning at the Eastern Mediterranean University. The study explored on-line instructor&rsquo / s administrative support, instructional competency, proficiency in applying the systems used in the course, in other words, technical knowledge and skills and on-line instructor&rsquo / s evaluation criteria of the on-line course. The study used the data obtained from 45 students, the instructor and an assistant of Eastern Mediterranean University. For this research, descriptive study was carried out and qualitative results were given at the end of the study. The results investigated students&rsquo / perceptions about the on-line course they were introduced prior to the application of the questionnaire. The results of the questionnaire demonstrated that the course was found effective, interesting and motivating for students with the animations, free lecture notes, forums, chat rooms, links to e-sources, chance for interaction and immediate feedback that enhance student creativity and self study. The findings included the recommendations for teachers in on-line learning environment. The study also provides the framework of the on-line instructors&rsquo / role by means of on-line learning environment. The results were demonstrated at the end of the study.

Determining transmission line parameters from time-stamped dataGrobler, Martin 21 April 2008 (has links)
The main aim of this project was to find a practical and accurate method to determine the parameters of a transmission line by using current and voltage measurements. The term line parameters refer to the inherent series resistance and inductance that is found on transmission lines. The line parameters were determined by using the voltage and current measurements from either side of the transmission line. An accurate reference signal is needed to precisely compare the measured signals. The timing signals from GPS units were used to reference the measurements. In a field implementation data transfer of the measured signals would be a necessity which can be accomplished by GPRS modems. Three methods are proposed for determining line parameters. These methods were thoroughly tested in the following ways: 1. A model was built in SIMULINK with known elements and values. The three methods were then applied to the model and simulations were run. The results from the simulations are compared to the known values. 2. A system was built in the laboratory with known parameters. The results gathered from testing the system on all three methods are compared to known values. 3. Finally, the methods were applied to field data from recorders of a utility. This was done to see how well the methods would perform on a real system. Accuracy was determined from what the utility accepts as the correct values. Another focus of the project was to determine the surge impedance loading (SIL) curve from measured data. This curve can be used to determine the loadability limit of the transmission line as well as to visually show at what point the line is operating at any given time. The curve is also useful as it provides insight into the additional reactive power needed for a certain active power transfer. The concept of drawing a SIL curve from actual measurements was first tested by means of simulation. The drawing of the proposed curve is also tested on actual measurements from a transmission line. This investigation posed many challenges. These challenges are discussed in detail in the dissertation. Some of these challenges have easily implementable solutions while others still leave room for further research. It investigates how their on-line identity influences their everyday off-line life. It also focuses on the way the social ties and networks are created among its users and how on-line community is constructed. I especially focus on the mutual impact of on-line and off-line activities of Damokles users. I based the research on qualitative methodology, especially engaged observation of members of Damokles community in the on-line realm as well as during their off-line activities; informal, semi-structured dialogues with the members of the community; and analysis and interpretation of texts from the world Damokles and about the world Damokles. I classify my work under the new anthropological sub- discipline, cyberanthropology, which studied humans and changes of human existence in the context of modern computer information and communication technologies (Soukup 2009, 138). I also deal with the specifics of this anthropological sub- discipline and issues connected with research in the on-line realm. Published Article / This paper presents the work on the development of a digital simulation model for the transportation line in a local automotive manufacturing plant. It describes a structured procedure of data collection, digital design, model building, activity creation, and process simulation using simulation tool Delmia. Based on the digital simulation model, new alternative concepts of production line planning strategy can be easily integrated into the model to evaluate the cycle time/cost and to optimise the production line. The demonstration result indicates that digital simulation can be used as a powerful tool to reduce planning risk, identify material flow bottlenecks, and to improve throughput and knowledge share within the company.
