The manifestations of learning support in the lives of high school learners

The study is a qualitative explanation of the manifestations of learning support in the lives of high school learners experiencing barriers to learning. The primary research question that guided this study was: How does learning support manifest itself in the lives of high school learners? Nine learners repeating grade nine were sampled to participate in the study. Co-participating were nine family members, seven educators and the principal. Interviews and observations were conducted to determine the nature of barriers to learning experienced by high school learners, and the ways in which learning support manifests in their lives. Theme analysis was then used to analyze the data collected. This process yielded two main themes, e.g. barriers to learning and manifestations of learning support . The two main themes were then further divided into eight sub-themes and fourteen categories. The findings of the study are articulated in terms of the ecosystemic perspective, which then indicated that barriers to learning issued from factors related to learners, educators, families, the education system and society. The sub-themes and categories that emerged on barriers to learning are discussed in detail in the thesis. The study further revealed that learning support manifests in diverse ways for the participants in this study, i) in terms of knowledge about and the availability of learning support, ii) in terms of guidance, advice, motivation, encouragement and one-on-one support, iii) in terms of extra classes, extra work and assistance with schoolwork and finally, iv) in terms of the mobilization of available resources. In conclusion, the study illustrates that there is low consistency in the ways in which learning support manifests in the lives of the learners in the study. 一帶一路倡議是中國最近的經濟發展策略,其目的是透過基礎設施發展和貿易,將中國與歐亞大陸的其他國家連結在一起。儘管並非單純為了能源所規劃的策略,但是倡議的組成部分對中國提供日增的能源需求扮演了一個角色。 本論文透過與1990 年代末中國走出去策略之比較,在中國能源需求的大架構下,檢驗一帶一路倡議。為評估一帶一路倡議對中國能源安全的影響,本論文首先界定中國對能源安全的見解,然後分析一帶一路計畫如何應對中國對能源安全的關切。 本論文發現一帶一路倡議可視為走出去策略的後續策略。此外,本論文也發現中國主要是透過供應的角度來觀察能源的安全,且一帶一路計畫(如,石油和天然氣管道的構築)確保了能源運輸的可靠性。 / The Belt and Road Initiative is China’s latest economic development strategy, which seeks to connect China to the rest of Eurasia through infrastructure development and trade. While not a dedicated energy strategy, components of the initiative will play a role in meeting China’s growing energy needs. This paper examines the Belt and Road Initiative in the greater context of China’s energy policy by comparing it to China’s “going-out” strategy of the late 1990s. It assesses the impact that Belt and Road projects will have on China’s energy security by first defining how China views its energy security and then analyzing how Belt and Road projects address China’s energy security concerns. This paper finds that the Belt and Road Initiative can be considered a successor to the“going-out” strategy. It also finds that China views energy security primarily through the lens of supply, and that Belt and Road projects such as port and pipeline construction contribute by ensuring reliability of transport.

The aim of the diploma thesis is the comparison of maritime and rail freight transport between Asia and Europe. The thesis focuses on characteristic of rail transport as an alternative mode of transport and identification of possibilities, how to increase its competitiveness towards to maritime transport. First part of the thesis analyses current situation in maritime and rail transport and focuses on their specifics and future potential. The practical part deals with the change of fictitious company´s logistics system. Maritime and rail transport are compared in terms of risks, costs and shipping time. The last part of thesis deals with possibilities of increasing competitiveness of rail transport in the future.

Sjuksköterskans upplevelser av det enskilda samtalet med den icke-födande föräldern i barnhälsovården : En kvalitativ intervjustudie

Bakgrund: Barnhälsovården finns till för att främja alla barns hälsa, allsidiga utveckling och välbefinnande. Sjuksköterskans uppdrag inom barnhälsovården är att tidigt grundlägga god kontakt med båda föräldrarna till det nyfödda barnet samt främja båda föräldrarnas delaktighet i omvårdnaden av barnet. Som stöd för främjande av en jämställd vård infördes år 2018 ett enskilt samtal även med den ickefödande föräldern i det nationella barnhälsovårdsprogrammet. Syfte: Att undersöka hur sjuksköterskor inom barnhälsovården upplever det enskilda samtalet med den icke-födande föräldern. Metod: Studien genomfördes med kvalitativa intervjuer med stöd av semistrukturerad intervjuguide. Data analyserades med hjälp av kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Fyra kategorier och tio underkategorier framkom i analysen. Följande kategorier presenteras: (i) Bättre kontakt med den icke-födande föräldern, (ii) Stort intresse för samtalet, (iii) Att kunna stärka föräldern i sin nya roll, och (iv) Att bekräfta betydelsen av att båda föräldrarna är lika viktiga. Konklusion: Införandet av det enskilda samtalet för den icke-födande föräldern har gjort att BVCsköterskan får möjlighet att grundlägga en bättre relation till den icke-födande föräldern och på så sätt utforma ett stöd som innebär en jämställd vård till hela familjen. / Background: The Child Health Care’s (CHC) aim is to enable all children's right to health, versatile development and wellbeing. It is important that the CHC-nurse early in the care of the newborn child develops a good relationship with both parents to create better possibilities for good health for the entire family. As a support for the CHC-nurses to be able to present an equal care for both parents a one on one conversation with the father/non-birth parent is offered when the newborn is about 3- 5 months old. Aim: The aim was to study the CHC-nurse’s experiences of the one on one conversation with the non-birth parent. Method: The study was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method including semi-structured interviews and qualitative content analysis. Result: The result is presented in the following categories: Better contact with the non-birth parent, Great interest for the conversation, To be able to support the parent in their new situation, To confirm the relevance of both parents being equally important. Conclusion: The introduction of the one on one conversation with the non-birth parent has increased the possibilities for the CHCnurse to found a better relationship with the non-birth parent. This increases the chances to offer equal care for the entire family.

Syftet med föreliggande studie har varit att med hjälp av kvalitativa intervjuer undersöka hur sex musiklärare inom ’en-till-en’ undervisning förhåller sig till att skapa och upprätthålla en relation gentemot deras elever i kulturskolan. Tidigare studier föreslår att lärare måste upprätthålla en komplex tvådelad relation som både tillhandahåller den auktoritära- och den personliga lärarrollen. Detta sätt att betrakta lärarrollen kallas för Persona, ett begrepp som är centralt i uppsatsen. Lärarnas utsagor har analyserats med hjälp av tematisk analysmetod och temana som skapades presenteras och kopplas samman med den teoretiska utgångspunkten att lärare har två roller att upprätthålla vad gäller relationen gentemot eleven. Resultatet visar att den personliga relationen är av stor vikt för informanterna då den synliggör elevens styrkor och svagheter; således kan lärarna individanpassa undervisningen för eleverna. Denna relation skapas och upprätthålls via lärarens intresse för eleven. Detta intresse yttrar sig bland annat genom mellanmänskliga samtal under lektionerna. Dock så bör inte detta intresse vara lektionens enskilda fokus. Utifrån intervjuerna framgår det att lärarna även måste tillhandahålla mer auktoritära och opersonliga lärarroller för att eleven faktiskt ska lära sig något. Dessa två lärarroller ska alltså inte ses som dikotomier, utan ska istället användas som komplement för varandra. / The purpose of this study has been to, with the help of qualitative interviews, examine how six music teachers in ’one-to-one’ tuition relate to creating and upholding a relationship in regards to their students in music schools. Earlier studies suggest that teachers must uphold a complex two-parted relationship that involves the teacher both as an authority and in a more personal role. This way of observing the teacher role is called Persona, a term central in this essay. The statements of the teachers have been analysed with the help of thematic analysis and the themes which were created are presented and connected with the theoretical perspective that teachers have two roles to uphold when it comes to the relationship towards the student. The result of the study shows that the personal relationship is of great importance for the informants as it throws light upon the students strengths and weaknesses. This makes it possible for the teachers to customize the education to fit the student. The relationship is created and upheld on the basis of interest that the teachers have for their students. This interest makes itself shown, among other ways, through interpersonal conversations during the lessons. The teachers interest in their student shouldn’t be the single focus of the lesson though. Based on the interviews, it appears that the teachers also must provide more authoritarian and impersonal teacher roles in order for the student to actually learn anything. These two teacher roles should in other words not be seen as dichotomies, but should instead be used as a complement to each other.
