Interview mit Luigi Malerba über NamenBrendler, Andrea, Iodice, Francesco 05 September 2018 (has links)
This is the eighth in a series of interviews with Italian writers on literary names. The purpose of this series is to complement the indirect approach of investigating strategies of literary naming in literary texts by directly questioning those who give names to literary characters or places. The interviews are to provide evidence of tendencies in literary naming in contemporary Italian writers. General conclusions will in due course be drawn from the material to be presented in the series. The present interview with Luigi Malerba was conducted in Rome on 30 April 2005.

The essay represents the thesis that the s-mobile phenomenon had not only appeared in Indo-European, but stayed alive in Germanic until after the First Sound Shift. With this assumption a number of words with Germanic p-, t-, k- as initial sound can be put down to elder sp-, st-. sk- forms and can thus be better etymologized than until now. Furthermore, some words traditionally being seen as loanwords can be classified as Germanic. As shown in the essay new possibilities for interpreting river- and place-names arise.

Der Ortsname WelluckenFastnacht, Dorothea 05 September 2018 (has links)
The germanic word well, synonyme with spring, which has disappeared from the standard german, has left its traces not only in the dutch-english-low-german area but in bavarian place-names, too.

Georgische KirchennamenFähnrich, Heinz 06 September 2018 (has links)

Eigennamen in der Welt zeitgenössischer TexteVasil'eva, Natalija 06 September 2018 (has links)
The author presents her monography 'Proper names in the world of text' (original language Russian) in which an integrative approach is proposed, based on principles of text linguistics, narrative theory and literary onomastics. The immediate environments of proper names (microtextology) on the one hand, and the whole text as a space for realization and functioning of proper names (macrotextology) on the other hand are investigated on the material of the modern Russian fiction. Some new concepts and terms have been introduced and interpreted: onymic information, onymic anticipation and retardation (as main text strategies of name introducing), deconstructive function of proper name in text (in addition to proper name functions defined by D. LAMPING). The concept of namelessness in fiction and different metamorphoses of names in slang are also discussed.

In order to explain the role of proper names in narrative fiction the literary text is seen as a system which, however, is connected to the “real world' in many ways. As a work of art the literary text is characterized by the predominance of the aesthetic function. From applying R. JAKOBSON’S and J. MURAKOVSKY’S concept of the aesthetic sphere as the sphere where the linguistic sign primarily reveals its inherent aesthetic and semantic values follows that the communicative functions of the proper name in literary texts are reverse to their order in everyday communication: It is not the identifying function of the proper name which is dominant in literary texts, but rather all the other semantic and phonic values which in real-world communication usually are not realized.
