Covid 19 a vyprávění o epidemii: Jak turecký stát vytváří a zneviditelňuje genderované a sexualizované formy zranitelnosti / Covid19 and the Outbreak Narrative: How the Turkish State Produces and Obscures Gendered and Sexual VulnerabilitiesCirikciel, Çağla January 2021 (has links)
How do the state institutions in Turkey (dis)articulate gender politics? How does the institutional discourse disintegrate gender politics? Where, when, and how do the institutions locate discourse of gender and sexuality into politics of pandemic? Where do institutions become silent? This thesis offers a feminist reading of the pandemic politics and discourse in Turkey; specifically, it analyzes the gendered tensions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Investigating the impacts of the pandemic discourse of the state on gender politics, I aim to unpack the state rhetoric where the official outbreak narrative generates a particular gender narrative. Observing that the state discourse obscures the gendered impacts of the pandemic, I work on locating the pandemic responses and discourses in Turkey. Approaching to politics of discourse as an issue of power and knowledge where power appears through the continuity of knowledge production, I elaborate on how an institutional discourse interprets, incorporates, articulate and disarticulate gender and sexuality overtly and covertly. As unpacking the discursive struggle of the state for mastery in gender and sexuality discourse, I demonstrate how the state reshapes and redirects the narratives on gender and sexuality within the politics of outbreak. Ekonomický dopad pandemie COVID-19 v čínských městech: Jak se lze poučit z pandemie SARS? / The Economic Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Chinese Cities: What Can We Learn from the SARS Pandemic?Zhang, Yueyue January 2022 (has links)
Using the quarterly and monthly data of ten representative cities in China from December 2000 to June 2021, this thesis describes the impact of COVID-19 on the urban economy, import and export, and quantifies the impact degree by panel data regression analysis. To explore the relationship between the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and urban categories, we distinguished different types of cities. The results show that COVID-19 has the most profound impact on coastal towns, followed by megacities. It is mainly due to the excessive dependence of coastal towns on import and export trade. We also understand the lagging effect of the pandemic on the economy by adding dummy variables representing the SARS pandemic. Facts have proved that while formulating related policies, the government has to consider the lagging effects of the impact of the pandemic on the economy. Psychologie phishingových útoků během krizí: Případ pandemie COVID-19 / Psychology of Phishing Attacks During Crises: The Case of Covid-19 PandemicKaliňák, Viliam January 2021 (has links)
Events and circumstances that accompany crises such as losses of loved ones, losses of material resources, dislocation, or physical harm, have an overall negative impact on people's mental health. It is this impaired state of man which makes him vulnerable to manipulation of social engineers who wants to take advantage of him in order to enrich themselves. This was also the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, the unprecedented crisis in modern history, during which phishing and fraud campaigns rapidly increased as people have been forced to stay safe at home and spent most of a day online. This work analyzes the psychological strategies of cybercriminals on a sample of more than 200 phishing e-mails in order to understand how the situation was abused and what can be learnt to prevent it in the future. It also provides theoretical and research frameworks for researchers who can apply it also on other types of crises. The results contribute to the fields of psychology, cybercrime as well as crisis management. Will Digital Currencies Replace Cash?: Digital, Currency, Privacy and SurveillanceTeichmann, Fabian, Falker, Marie-Christin 13 May 2020 (has links)
In some nations, including Sweden and South Korea, cash payments are becoming increasingly
uncommon. Other nations, such as Germany, continue to predominantly prefer cash.
At the same time, digital currency is on the rise, and the announced launch of Facebook’s
stablecoin Libra, in particular, has caused a debate around digital money. In response, a
number of central banks have begun to consider launching their own versions of digital
currency. This article analyzes characteristics of both cash and digital currency and illustrates
advantages as well as disadvantages of digital money and a cashless society. In particular,
privacy concerns regarding digital cash are addressed. In addition, compliance risks
are highlighted, and it is deliberated whether the introduction of digital cash could lead to
a decrease in crime related to cash and cryptocurrencies.

Is this our Plumbus?: An Exploration of Crypto and Virtual Currencies through a Compliance LensKimathi, Sharon Kits 13 May 2020 (has links)
In this comment piece, I will seek to examine the relationship between cryptocurrencies and virtual
currencies from a compliance perspective. I will tie this to the underlying theme from multiple studies,
that a lack of knowledge of these products means more needs to be done by policymakers and the
crypto industry to form cohesive and understandable standards that unearth what these products
are, how they are used and how compliance analysts can be best supported to apply best practice
procedures when conducting due-diligence checks. I will seek to lay out the advantages and disadvantages
of recent developments and explore the challenges they pose on a socio-economic and macro
level. This piece dissects the topic through four chapters.
The first ties it into developments that unfolded during the global financial crisis, the use of collateralized
debt obligations and other derivatives-based financial instruments, ultimately showing how
a lack of knowledge was an underlying theme within the banking system during the 2008 global
financial crisis. The second chapter combines the theme of knowledge and awareness of a product
with the way in which people view cryptocurrency and digital coins, including regulators, courts and
policymakers.
The third explores recent developments from international central banks and governments, from
sanctioned countries using of the product to help their citizens to international alliances forming
across the globe in support of central-bank digital currencies.
The final chapter unpacks the advantages and disadvantages of using these financial instruments,
from countries in the global south suffering from scams to the pressure it takes on energy efficiency,
concluding that more needs to be done to educate users, regulators and everyone in between for the
success of the digital currency to be fully realized.
