Vazba "there is st -ing" a její české ekvivalenty

PEROUTKOVÁ, Hana January 2010 (has links)
This diploma thesis examines cases of existential there-constructions in which the notional subject of the clause is modified by the present participle. The theoretical part of the research is based on the scientific studies. It focuses on the description of some other variants of constructions functioning in the same way as the existential clauses on the FSP level. The practical part of the thesis is aimed at the analysis of the excerpts gained from authentic literary genres of fiction and journalism. The practical part also tries to quantify the frequency of appearance of the existential clauses modified by the present participle. Besides, the thesis also tries to compare the above-mentioned type of English existential constructions with their Czech translations. According to the results of such comparison, the thesis suggests which structures represent the Czech equivalent of these constructions.

Finitní a participiální postmodifikace v mluveném akademickém diskurzu: přírodní a společenské vědy / Finite and participial postmodifiers in spoken academic discourse: natural and social sciences

Škodová, Kateřina January 2013 (has links)
The subject of the present study is a comparison of two postmodifying constructions in noun phrases - finite relative adnominal clauses with the subject gap and nonfinite participial clauses - in spoken academic discourse: natural and social science. The comparison is based on the fact that both constructions realize the same clause element, i.e. a postmodifier in a noun phrase. The aim of the present study is thus to present major characteristics and functions of finite relative clauses and their reduced counterparts with respect to their distribution across the two subregisters of spoken academic discourse. The study is divided into three main parts: the theoretical background (Chapter 2) which defines the major characteristics and functions of the two postmodifying constructions and their mutual relationship, as are presented in the literature; the main part (Chapters 3 and 4) which provides the analysis of finite relative clauses and participial postmodifiers; and conclusion in Chapter 5.

Participium v současné španělštině / Past Participle in Contemporary Spanish

Mrkvová, Jana January 2013 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce: The topic of this dissertation is the past participle and its use in the contemporary Spanish language system. The character of the thesis is both theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part delineates the issue of the Spanish past participle in the context of non-finite verbs and explores the general matters of the past participle connected with its morphological and syntactic- semantical features. The empirical part consists of two case studies of selected past participle constructions, dar por + past participle a una vez + past participle, based on language research within the parallel corpus InterCorp and single language corpus CREA. The aim of the research is to identify the particular past participles forming the core of the above-mentioned constructions and, by way of contrastive analysis, describe the possibilities of expressing these constructions in the Czech language. The individual findings are quantified and documented by examples.

Přechodníkové konstrukce v barokních textech / The Transgressive Constructions in the Baroque Texts

KAMENÍK, Josef January 2014 (has links)
The topic of this diploma thesis is an analysis of the baroque period's transgressives. Both the contemporary norm relative to the transgressives and its theoretical reflexion are observed on the base of five grammar writings from the given historic age. An obtained knowledge is then compared with a material excerpted from the writings corresponding to their date of origin during the period in baroque. The oldest of these scholarly writings is "Mappa katolická" by Jiří Plachý, followed by "Kronika klattovská" written by Jan Florián Hammerschmid and a late baroque polemic "Obzvláštné pravdy náboženství katholického" by Jan Hubálek. In this thesis, the transgressives are examined from both phonological and morphological point of view, but the greatest emphasis is placed on problematic facets, such as the gender congruence, the aspect of source verb and the transgressives' meaning derived from the primal participles. The diploma thesis sets its goal to describe the state of baroque transgressives and their using in contemporary literature as exactly as possible. Beside of these, it aims to specify the trend, on which end is the current wither of these grammatical forms.

Syntax českého překladu díla J.R.R.Tolkiena / Syntax of the Czech Translation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Work

Kakešová, Věra January 2015 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce The diploma thesis Syntax of the Czech Translation of J. R. R. Tolkien's Work is based on a comparative linguistic study concentrated on the Czech and English nonfinite verb forms and the possibilities of their usage. The thesis is founded on the analysis of selected grammatical features in John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's Silmarillion and The Hobbit, and their translations by Stanislava Pošustová and František Vrba. The examples of non-finite verb forms working as different sentence elements are preceded by a short theoretical introduction which is supposed to provide a background for the comparison of their usage. Similar examples are organized and analysed together. Within a single chapter the samples were sequenced according to the frequency in usage of the type of their translation. Apart from comparing the original with its translation it is also possible to see the differences between concrete realisations of one grammatical feature in English, and to take into account the differences between the work of the two translators. Key words Translation, infinitive, gerund, participle, syntax, Czech, English, Silmarillion, The Hobbit, Tolkien

Polovětné gerundiální a ing-ové participiální vazby v psaném a mluveném odborném textu / Gerundial and ing-participial clauses in written and spoken academic texts

Pajmová, Klára January 2013 (has links)
This Master's thesis deals with the gerund and -ing participial clauses in written and spoken academic texts. The theoretical part defines the academic discourse and non-finite verb forms. Gerund and -ing participial constructions are further described regarding their forms and syntactic functions. The sources used for the research part are two corpora of contemporary academic British English: BASE and BAWE. BASE corpus contains transcripts of academic lectures. BAWE corpus is a collection of university-level students' writings. Both corpora contain texts from four different genres and moreover students' assignments are divided into four levels of study. For the purpose of the research part of our thesis, only the genre "Arts and Humanities" and the highest level of study will be taken into account. The practical part analyses the frequency of gerund and -ing participial clauses, frequency of verbs occurring in these constructions and collocations of these verbs. A detailed analysis aims at studying 100 sentences from written texts and 100 sentences from academic lectures. This sample is examined regarding the internal structure of each non-finite clause and its syntactic function. The final section summarizes the results or our research.

Anglické participiální polovětné konstrukce a jejich české překladové protějšky / English participial clauses and their Czech translation counterparts

Mašková, Martina January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse and describe the Czech translation counterparts of English present- and perfect-participial clauses which function as postmodifiers and adverbials. Although there is a formal counterpart of the English participle - the transgressive - this form is considered very marked and archaic in Czech. Therefore, based on an analysis of 210 sentences excerpted from three American works of contemporary fiction, the thesis describes the recurrent patterns used in the translation of the forms in question. The analysis confirmed the findings of previous studies that while English prefers nominal and verbo- nominal means of expressions, Czech relies rather on verbal expression. The majority of the translation counterparts are divergent correspondences, above all finite clauses connected paratactically to the counterpart of the matrix clause. Although the translation of a participle by a finite verb form is more explicit, the coordinative relation makes it possible to retain the semantic indeterminacy of the relation between the clauses which is specific for participial constructions. Key words: participle, participial clause, transgressive, postmodifier, adverbial, translation counterparts

Lingvoliterární analýza staročeské skladby Tristram a Izalda / Linguistic and Literary Analysis of Old Bohemian Composition Tristram and Izalda

MUŠINSKÁ, Daniela January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with an analysis of Old Czech poem Tristram and Izalda. The source of the analysed text is the Strahov manuscript dated to 1449, in edition by Zdeňka Tichá. The thesis includes a brief description of the history and origin of the analysed piece in both European and especially Czech literary context. The main focus of this text is the linguistic analysis of selected language phenomena. That comprises of phonological and morphological evolution of most grammar categories of nouns, adjectives and verbs in Czech language. With nouns and adjectives, the thesis focuses on the declination paradigm, specifically on the system of grammatical cases and the animacy of the masculine gender. With verbs, the attention is given to the analysis of the tenses, with emphasis on the simple past tenses. First and foremost, the thesis focuses on the analysis of the aorist and imperfect tense with emphasis on verbal aspect affiliation, from which these tenses are often created. A part of the work is dedicated to the preterite, the compound past tense. Where individual verbal forms are analysed, the main focus is given to the nt- and s- participles, their suffix system and also the connection to the category of verbal aspect. Many distinct examples from the analysed text are provided throughout the thesis, as well as detailed statistic data on the occurrence frequency of selected phenomena

Neurčité tvary slovesné jako sekundární predikáty v ruštině, češtině a němčině. Typologický pohled / Non-finite Verb Forms as Semipredicates in Russian, Czech and German. A Typological View

Kocková, Jana January 2016 (has links)
Title: Nonfinite Verb Forms as Semipredicates in Russian, Czech and German. A Typological View. Author: Jana Kocková Supervisor: doc. Dr. phil. Markus Giger Abstract: This research paper presents a comprehensive picture of nonfinite verb forms in Russian, Czech and German supported by a corpus analysis based on the parallel corpus InterCorp CNC. Equivalents of each of the nonfinite verb forms were analysed manually in each of the monitored languages. The data obtained served for typological classification focused on nonfinite verb forms as secondary predicates. Different frequencies of the individual forms and mutual competition of various means in language also indirectly result from the analysis. In Czech we may observe generally a strong tendency to express the semiprediaction by means of a finite verb form in a sentence structure. As regards non finite verb forms, the actively used forms are participle and verbal nouns, i.e. forms which relate to the existing partofspeech paradigms. Due to being inflectional they express explicitly syntactic relations. Czech uses the possibility to express the secondary predication by means that are not contrary to morphological regularities of the inflectional type. Russian uses actively all the nonfinite verb forms. A high...
