Stroj, film a lidská percepce / Machine, movie and human perception

Pechoušková, Klára January 2018 (has links)
The main topic of this diploma thesis is the relationship of movie and human perception. Movie is a purely technical medium that moves images for the first time. The starting point of the work is the book written by French cultural theorist Paul Virilio and his reflections on film and technology. Virilio's position is negative in many ways due to cinematography. He blames technology for horrors inflicted during world wars. Cinematography is guilty of a revolution of perception that leads to the decomposition of the vision and the disintegration of the classical dimensions of space and time. In my work Virilio's views are confronted with the reflections of Virilio's contemporary, also the French theorist, Gilles Deleuze. Deleuze understands movie in many ways differently than Virilio. Also his opinion on the technique is quite different. The movie after World War II is a medium that no longer attempts to imitate natural perception. Such film can cause a shock to the audience. This shock opens up new possibilities of thinking and perception, and the viewer gains the opportunity to achieve a specific spiritual life through a movie.

Diskursanalyse der Konfliktszenarien in der postmodernen Philosophie

Brandt, Marieke 17 January 2005 (has links)
The philosophy of the postmodern regards itself as a movement of liberation and cultural emancipation. In view of its anti-totalitarian inspiration postmodern philosophy is linked with the hope of a post-war age, because it believes it can put the times of war behind it together with the times of totalities. A discourse analysis of the writings of three philosophers who are of central importance for the body of ideas of the philosophical postmodern - Jean-Francois Lyotard, Jean Baudrillard und Paul Virilio - however reveals two particular contradictions which place a question mark against the pluralistic option of postmodern philosophy and hence against its claim to end the attempts at violent assimilation of the other together with the end of the age of totalization and to bring about a rehabilitation of the recognition of cultural differences. On the one hand the postmodern philosophical discourse does not comprise the evolution of a "positive barbarity" (Lyotard) but an anarchical lack of rules with negative connotations. On the other hand the idea of difference as the "ontological dignity" of the postmodern is in itself incoherent; it is rather the case that postmodern thought involves a fundamental process of de-differentiation. Because of these inherent contradictions in postmodern discourse postmodern theoreticians can contribute to the spread of precisely those ideas and that potential for violence whose disappearance they originally intended. Wherever today, in the age of a developing world inner space and of a multiplicity of intercultural contacts, attempts are made to propose the concept of postmodernity as a programme for the better acceptance of the cultural other and for the education of the various actors in a spirit of tolerance, these must be encountered with scepticism.

Global/Airport

Denicke, Lars 23 September 2015 (has links)
September 2011. / This dissertation develops a specific geopolitics of aviation, taking an original perspective as it starts with the assumption that air travel happens on the ground. The focus is on a thorough examination of the technical details for implementing the facilities of airports at moments decisive for the distribution of power in the 20th century. Geopolitical discourses are revised to enable an original understanding for the genealogy of globalisation. The dissertation analyses movements in the air with view on their immanent local and territorial dimensions. It breaks with the overcome understanding of aviation as a traffic system that is global and that destroys space as no other (Carl Schmitt, Paul Virilio, Martin Heidegger). The dissertation was disputed at the Institute for Cultural Studies. It is also a contribution to the genealogy of media theory, following in the footsteps of Harold A. Innis, as it focuses on the neglected transmission of goods and people instead of signs and codes. Starting point is the US military logistics in World War II. The heterogeneous material under review includes political programmes and debates; international relations; philosophical, juridical and economic discourses; urbanism, engineering and military doctrines. It takes the reader on a journey around the world, with focus on Saudi-Arabia, Central and Southern Africa, Brazil and the Near East, taking into account events from the 1930s to 1970s, and concluding with an epilogue on the events of 9/11.
