Creation of Ceramic Forms Combining Stoneware and Porcelain

Havis, Charles K. 08 1900 (has links)
The problem under investigation is the creation of ceramic forms using both stoneware and porcelain in the same piece of ware. Sub-problems are to experiment with the best techniques of joining different clay bodies and the creation of aesthetically pleasing pieces which combine the textural beauty and rich glazes of stoneware with the bright glazes and the white and sometimes translucent body of porcelain.

克拉克瓷研究. / Research on Kraak porcelain / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection / Kelake ci yan jiu.

January 2010 (has links)
Due to limited sources available, Chinese scholars so far are slightly behind the Western scholars in the study of Chinese export porcelain. It is sincerely hope that the current in-depth analysis of Kraak porcelain will contribute to portray a more comprehensive picture of Chinese export porcelain. / Kraak porcelain is a type of Chinese export porcelain with unique features which was produced in the second half of the sixteenth century for European market. It was the earliest type of export porcelain of some scale and had distinct characteristics. In this attempt to understand the rich cultural significance of Kraak porcelain, interdisciplinary research methodologies have been integrated. They include documentary and textual studies (history), calculations and statistics (economics), archaeological typology and stylistic analysis (art history and archaeology). / The aim of the thesis is to carry out a detailed study of Kraak porcelain, in particular specimen from datable contexts and archaeological material, so as to better understand the provenance of Kraak porcelain, its period of production and changes at different stages. Based on the results of the above examinations, a preliminary study of the sale and distribution of Kraak porcelain has been carried out---an area which has been neglected. Related issues such as order placing, different requirements of patrons and export routes are also discussed. / 范夢園. / Adviser: Harold Kar-Leung Mok. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 73-03, Section: A, page: . / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2010. / Includes bibliographical references (p. 248-267). / Electronic reproduction. Manipulations: Vessels in Porcelain

January 2018 (has links)
acase@tulane.edu / It is of paramount importance to me as a maker to marry art and craft within the confines of function. I make porcelain objects with specific physical uses in mind. I develop my work to address aspects of aesthetics and design simultaneously. The relationship we have with handmade pottery is unlike that of other art objects. It is personal, relational, and intimate. As such, I create sculptural vessels intended for physical use. I draw great inspiration from the natural world. My vessels are imbued with volume, and are reminiscent of organic life forms. I am fascinated with the plumpness of sea tunicates, flower ovaries and seed pods. I am intrigued by the ethereal depth of cloud formations. I heavily manipulate my wheel thrown forms by hand to incorporate a quality of pillowy fullness within an organized but imperfect formal structure. I stretch and push the clay into billows, and bind these structures with a criss-crossing of geometric lines to create convex swells within the walls of each vessel. I glaze each piece to accentuate the form, and have utilized colors from the natural world that complement the external curves of the vessels. As a functional artist, I strive for the vessels that I create to have a dual purpose. We fill our lives with objects; I want my contribution to our world to be simultaneously elegant and utilitarian. / 1 / Danielle B. Inabinet

Borate fluxes in bone china

Lawson, Robert Peter January 1981 (has links)
A critical review of phase equilibria studies on the edge binary and face ternary sections of the quaternary system Na₂O-CaO-B₂O₃-SiO₂ is presented. Phase equilibria has been studied by means of the static quenching technique in the binary subsection CaO,B₂O₃-B₂O₃ and the ternary system Na₂O-CaO-B₂O₃. Phase diagrams are presented for the stable and (general) metastable equilibria in the subsection, along with a discussion on the stability and range of the phases CaO, 2B₂O₃ and 'CBx '. Two previously unreported compounds: Na₂O,CaO,4B₂O₃ and 3Na₂O,6CaO,11B₂O₃ were found in the boron-rich part of the ternary system. Unit cell dimensions and X-ray powder patterns are given. A liquidus diagram and a subsolidus compatibility diagram were determined. There is no evidence of solid solution in the system. The general reaction kinetics in the ternary, the distribution of the major compatibility volumes in the quaternary and the application of borate fluxes in bone china are discussed.
