Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is associated with HLA-B*2704 and B*2705 but not with HLA-B*2706 and B*2709. Genome wide studies recently identified ERAP1 as an important genetic association in AS and could be the missing link in the pathogenesis of AS. I studied the implications of the two known actions of ERAP1 on AS pathogenesis. For assessing the peptide trimming function, surface HLA-B27 and MHC-I free heavy chain (FHC) expression on peripheral blood mononuclear cells of AS patients were studied. Subsequently, in an in vitro system of C1R cells expressing different AS-associated and AS-neutral HLA-B27 subtypes, I studied the effect of ERAP1 suppression on HLA-B27 and FHC expression. To assess the cytokine receptor shedding function, I studied serum cytokine receptor level variation with ERAP1 polymorphisms and its relationship to disease activity in AS patients. Finally, I studied the effect of variants of ERAP1 and other members of the antigen presentation machinery on radiographic severity in AS patients. AS patients with the major allele of the ERAP1 rs27044 polymorphism had higher FHC expression on monocytes. In C1R cells ERAP1 suppression led to an increase in intracellular FHC (IC-FHC) and B27-peptide complexes identified by a special MARB4 antibody, but only in C1R cells expressing the AS-associated subtypes HLA-B*2704 and B*2705. ERAP1 variants had no effect on serum cytokine receptor levels. Baseline radiographic severity was associated with ERAP1 polymorphism in univariate analysis only. LMP2 variants were associated with baseline radiographic severity in multivariate analysis. ERAP1 affects peptide presentation and FHC formation by HLA-B27 and could be the missing link in the pathogenesis of AS. ERAP1 through its differential HLA-B27 subtype interaction could explain why certain subtypes of HLA-B27 are associated with AS while others are not. Larger studies are required to look closely at the effect of ERAP1 on radiographic severity and progression in AS.

Existed applications and research studies has been compared and, a responsive web application is developed aiming at providing relevant functionalities and services regarding diabetes self-management.

Narcissists typically present themselves in self-enhancing ways to gain validation (through positive social appraisals) of grandiose, yet uncertain self-views. Using e-mail, Studies 1 and 2 investigated several intra- and interpersonal variables that may influence narcissists� self-presentational behaviour. University students rated themselves on self domains requiring either external validation (e.g., attractiveness) or internal validation (e.g., morality), after being randomly assigned to be either accountable or non-accountable to an evaluative audience for their self-ratings (Study 1), to present their self-ratings to either a single or multiple person evaluative audience (Study 2), and to expect to present their self-ratings to either a high or low status evaluative audience (Studies 1 and 2). Results suggested that when degree of external self-worth contingency (Crocker & Wolfe, 2001) was high, narcissists were insensitive to strategic self-presentational requirements, presenting themselves in a typically self-enhancing manner on external domains when accountable and when presenting to a multiple person audience. Non-narcissists showed more contextual sensitivity when degree of external self-worth contingency was high, and were more modest when these social contextual variables were present. Participants in Study 3 were given bogus positive or negative personality feedback on either their moral virtue or competitive spirit. Narcissists reported greater anger after receiving negative feedback, while also responding to negative feedback with inflated self-presentations. A key finding was that the combination of a high degree of self-worth contingency and negative feedback resulted in increases in self-reported depression and drops in state self-esteem in narcissists. Results suggest that narcissists are chronically vigilant for self-enhancement opportunities, but may be insensitive to social constraints and norms in their efforts to construct their grandiose identities. Narcissists are especially vigilant for self-enhancement opportunities on contingent domains, yet when negative feedback is received in these domains where self-worth is staked, depression and lowered self-esteem may result.

The purpose of this study is to see whether price endings affect people's perceptions of luxury and necessity goods. There is evidence that the rightmost digits, or endings, of retail prices can communicate meanings to consumers. Some researchers (Schindler and Kirby, 1997; Stiving and Winer, 1997; Thomas and Morwitz, 2005) argued that there are two price ending effects level effects (those effects in which consumers may underestimate the price); and image effects (those effects in which consumers may infer meaning from the right-hand digits). In the study, ninety-three participants were recruited from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. All participants were given questionnaires to rate the quality and necessity-luxury of the good first; then a distraction session which used for distracting participants' attention from memorizing the prices of the goods; then a recall-test was given. Participants gave significantly different ratings for luxuries and necessities according to the different price-endings. In addition, the idea that the prices ending in 9 tend to be underestimated was also found.
