Development Of An Intelligent Tutoring System For Distance Education At Master

This thesis describes an Intelligent Tutoring System developed to be used in distance education at Master&rsquo / s level. The system was designed and implemented to help teachers to generate course material for online tutoring and to help the students to navigate through the course material according to their knowledge level. The system integrates many new technologies and provides individualized learning for students which is one of the most efficient ways for learning. How well the student has learned the course material is tested immediately after each smallest learning unit by end-of-section tests and the knowledge level of the student is derived from the answers given to these tests. This knowledge level is used to build a user model. This thesis describes how this user model is used for navigational support for students while studying on the course material.

Advertising effectiveness measurement : intermediate constructs and measures

Advertisers invest substantial amounts of money in advertising and need to know whether these investments pay off. Given that advertising generally has both short-term and long-term effects and that the behavioral effects of advertising are influenced by numerous other factors, intermediate measures are needed that gauge the mental effects of advertising in the target audience. This thesis explores three broad issues in the measurement of intermediate advertising effectiveness: The relationship between different intermediate measures, the ability of advertising pretest measures to predict the outcome of advertising campaigns, and how measures of certain constructs should be operationalized. These issues were investigated in two empirical studies. The main result from the two studies is that measurement of advertising effectiveness requires multiple measures that are analyzed simultaneously. The results also indicate that some commonly used intermediate measures are not correctly understood and are, therefore, sometimes used for the wrong purposes. Evaluating a Safe Space Training for School Counselors and Trainees Using a Randomized Control Group Design

School counselors need to advocate and act as an ally for all students. Safe Space, a training designed to facilitate competency for working with and serving LGBTQ youth (i.e., LGBTQ competency), has received increased attention in the field of school counseling. However, limited empirical support exists for training interventions such as Safe Space, with only one study to date examining its effectiveness for graduate psychology students (see Finkel, Storaasli, Bandele, & Schaefer, 2003). This study used a randomized pretest-posttest control group design to evaluate and examine the impact of Safe Space training on competency levels of a sample of school counselors/school counselor trainees and to explore the relationship between LGBTQ competency and awareness of sexism and heterosexism.
