of PhD Theses The Thesis is centred around the influence the Lazansky of Bukova aristocratic family had on the artistic environment in the Czech lands from the 16th to 20th century. He compares the resulting summary with the realizations of other aristocratic families in the Czech lands and in Central Europe. The author's efforts result is the first comprehensive view of the Lazansky of Bukova family in the wider context of cultural history, and in the rehabilitation of their role in artistic patronage. Prokop, Jan a ti druzí. Mladší Rabštejnové ve vírech husitského století / Prokop, Jan and the Others. The Younger Rabštejn Family in the Turbulences of the Hussite CenturyKozler, David January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with the significant western Bohemian noble family of the younger Rabštejns in the turbulent "Hussite Century", known also as the short 15th century (1400-1485). The primary focus of the research is the examination of the lives and careers of individual members of the family, the most prominent of which are the Chancellor Prokop († probably 1470) and the humanist Jan (1437-1473), author of the famous Dialogus. Their critically written biographies, appropriately set in the context of the political, religious and cultural history of the given period, review the factual errors of present research and answer the question of how specific nobles of the Rabštejn family managed the dramatic events of the "Hussite Century". The explication elaborated based on a classic genealogical and biographical approach is supplemented by sections on the social and economic rise of the younger Rabštejns in the 15th century, using knowledge from a modern, dynamically developing study of social mobility, royal court issues and noble representation. This, along with extensive source and literary heuristics on which the thesis is based, enables us to look at the history of the studied noble family with multiple lenses and place it in a wider context. The sources used are critically examined, and their selection...

Po stopách staré kresby ve sbírkách vybraných českých sběratelů / Following old master drawings within the collections of selected Czech collectorsBabická, Lenka January 2019 (has links)
Following old master drawings within the collections of selected Czech collectors Abstract This thesis is a contribution to the history of collecting in Bohemia. It deals with the collecting of drawings and tracks them within the selected collections and collectors. It focuses primarily on the old master drawings, defined as works from the 16th to the 18th century. Within the issue of collecting the attention is, even when studying specific personalities, often paid to the picture galleries rather than the print collections. Due to its fragile nature, drawing tends to fit into the background and, if it does not form the main part of the collection, is not reflected. Many of the collections and collectors have come to attention lately, but many still await their appreciation and introduction into new contexts. Keywords Collecting, collector, drawing, Old Master Drawings, Bohemia, provenance, Prokop Toman, Rudolf Kuchynka, Vincenc Kramář, Jan Krčmář, Frits Lugt

Místo lesa v literárních pramenech 14.-15. století v česko-francouzsko-anglické perspektivě / The Place of the Forest in Fourteenth- and Fifteenth-Century Literary Sources, a Czech-French-English PerspectiveTurek, Matouš January 2015 (has links)
The master thesis presents and analyses a range of different ways in which the motif of the forest was treated in late-medieval literary sources as an element of thematic and compositional construction of the text. At the theoretical basis of the thesis is the concept of diachronic text reception and adaptations which bring along the transmission and simultaneous transformation of the use of topoi, while this process is being related to the development of the literary chronotopos signalizing a change in the public's horizon of expectation. The majority of sources for analysis are drawn from Czech sources of the long 14th century - courtly and chivalric romance, the Old Czech verse legend of St. Procopius and the Dalimil Chronicle - while a shorter part of the thesis is devoted to the presentation of individual tendencies in the development of the use of the forest topos in English and French literary allegory of the 14th and 15th centuries. In detailed comparison of specific passages from Old Czech texts with their actual models in other languages (Old Middle German, Latin), the thesis demonstrates, upon the example of the forest topos, that topoi do not represent fixed, inalterable clichés, but actually exhibit intense shifts in function, content and theme.
