Chrobáková, Alena January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis is focused on social stratification aspects of internet use, as a part of leisure time activities and consequently as a potential part of cultural capital. The main objective of this paper is to make a link between Bourdieusian tradition of research of cultural capital and research tradition of stratification aspects of internet use (especially digital divide). The author is trying to prove if the type of internet usage could be considered as a part of cultural capital. In the first, theoretical part of this text, the author is presenting both research traditions concerned, trying to synthetize them and concluding that internet usage can be considered as a capital. In the second, analytical part of this paper, the author is using data from World Internet Project to provide, that the theoretical synthesis have some empirical support. The analysis proves that the structure of Czech internet users' activities are differentiated by their cultural capital level. On the basis of this analysis, we can conclude that more powerful differentiation between types of internet usages is provided by traditional form of cultural capital, rather than by the emerging one. Otevřenost českých tradičních medií vůči neuživatelům Internetu / The issue of openness of the Czech traditional media towards Internet non-users

Macek, Oskar January 2015 (has links)
This paper deals theoretically and empirically with the issue of traditional media openness towards Internet non-users and its perception among non-users themselves. The theoretical part of the work outlines the problem of inequality in the information society and how specific content of messages in selected traditional media can contribute to these inegualities. The second part examines through a pilot content analysis the nature of the media content in the traditional Czech mass media with regard to the possibility of interaction and participation with the media and the usage of links to the digital content. On this basis, semi-structured interviews examine perception and reflection of such phenomena on a selected group of elderly non-users. The conclusion of this work consists of the introduction of the scheme of factors influencing the extent of perceived discrimination among non-users of the Internet in relation to traditional mass media.

Determinants of IT Investments and Penetration: A Cross-Country Analysis / Determinants of IT Investments and Penetration: A Cross-Country Analysis

Alexa, Jiří January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines determinants of IT investments and IT penetration rate. The full sample consists of panel data for 69 countries between years 1996 and 2013.We analyze three types of IT devices: smartphones, tablets and PCs. In order to reveal cross-segment and cross-technology differences in the importance of various determinants, separate regression models are estimated on technology-segment level. Installed base per capita, which is used to measure the level of existing capital, is included among independent variables in equations estimating per capita IT investments. Results show that the effect of the level of existing capital is stronger for smartphones and tablets when compared to PCs. Another finding is that commercial segment is less price sensitive than consumer segment. This study also provides several findings regarding other determinants of IT penetration rate and IT investments such as: national wealth, human capital, openness to trade and external knowledge, and business cycles.

Melicharová, Eliška January 2019 (has links)
The thesis deals with the global information flows and its aim is to find factors which influence them. Firstly, the visibility of the country in international news is explored, i.e. which countries are dominantly represented in the international news. Secondly, the exposure of the country towards international news is observed, i.e how countries vary in the openness towards the international news. The thesis also seek to reveal factors which have an impact on the visibility of the country and on the exposure. The thesis consists of a recherche part with the theory of globalization and a quantitative analysis based on the dataset from 2014-2017. The thesis concludes that countries are represented unevenly with few dominant countries (the most dominant country is China, followed by USA and Ukraine) in the international news and that the most exposed countries have been found small developing countries (Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, etc.) from South America. Regarding the factors of visibility of the country, the highest impact has the size of population, and also GNI and the presence of violent correlated. On the contrary, all factors impacting the exposure of the country were found statistically insignificant.

Fenomén digitální propasti v době rozvoje demasifikovaných médií / The phenomenon of the digital divide in the time of the expansion of demassificated media

Pečiva, Martin January 2012 (has links)
The final thesis deals with the mapping of the use of network media as one of the tools of political communication during events, that are called Arab Spring (Arab revolution). It is based on the hypothesis, that some people in non-democratic countries are able to effectively deal with information and are able to spread it efficiently among themselves and beyond their country through network media. All this despite of the fact that in these modes is censorship, restriction or Internet blocking. It provides the evidence, that the use of the network media is, that they help to inform the world about events in the country, that held protests or riots. Social networks are not used to organize and coordinate protests, as they were often attributed by the media. Network media acted more as an alternative channel of information to the outside of the country.

Lupač, Petr January 2013 (has links)
In his dissertation thesis, the author elaborates on a new position from which both information society theory and digital divide research could be analyzed as active participants in a large-scale societal reconstruction. The text begins with the reconstruction of the argumentation core of information society theories, which is then utilized when choosing their latest, most respected, and most elaborated version. In the following chapter, the author presents the composition of Manuel Castells' information society theory and its tight relationship with the digital divide issue. In the final parts of this chapter, the author reveals the key position of the digital divide issue in solving the contradictions and negative aspects of informatization. The chapter is concluded by finding out the absence of the link between digital divide and information society theory in the preceding criticism of Castells' work. In the fourth part, the development, arguments, and empirical evidence of the digital divide research are presented, followed by identification of the limits of contemporary academic digital divide discourse. In the sixth chapter, the author tries to overcome these limits by proposing a new empirical evidence better fitting model of the digital divide. The thesis is concluded by thinking over the...

Senioři a problematika digitální propasti / Seniors and the issue of digital divide

Zadražilová, Iva January 2019 (has links)
Výzkumy probíhaly v kvalitativní i kvantitativní rovině a přinesly odpovědi zejména na otázky, jakým způsobem dnes senioři internet využívají a o jaká témata jeví největší zájem z hlediska svého dalšího vzdělávání.
