January 2018 (has links)
From Lexicology and its interface with other fields of knowledge, in particular, Lexicography, Anthropology, History and Sociology, we propose to carry out a research whose object of investigation are peculiar types of definition used orally by the speakers in describing elements of the flora. For constitution of the oral corpus was necessary, first, the realization of field research that occurred in seven municipalities located in the southeast region of the state of Goiás. We interviewed two women and two men in each place, totaling twenty-eight people, most of them over the age of sixty. Besides belonging, practically, to the same generation, Another point they have in common is that their life histories are crossed by the relationship with the countryside before and after the rural exodus that began in the lands of Goias in 1980. Our main objective is to analyze the linguistic procedures used by the mistress and mister in the constitution of the definitions concerning the plants of the region. More specifically, this paper proposes: i ) compare the definitions made by our interlocutors with those registered in the database of the Brazilian Historical Dictionary (DHPB), which consists of the most varied texts and documents; ii ) discuss the relationsh...

Van den Heever, Petro-Thelma 21 August 2012 (has links)
M.A. Onderhoude wat op band geneem word, is the heeltemal natuurlik the, want "Interview speech is formal speech" en "monitored and controlled in response to the presence of an outside observer."

Gambin, Aline 27 August 2014 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2015-02-09T12:47:53Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Aline Gambin.pdf: 5482339 bytes, checksum: 5fb422bf50397496db476767adcf0408 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-02-09T12:47:53Z (GMT). The hypothesis that guides this research, in relation to the formulated problem, is that the multimodal language exploits a stereotypical construction of gaúcho in the production of publicity material of the Polar brand. Specifically, the aim is to identify how the GAUCHO cultural model is used by multimodal language to position the Polar brand and thereby create emotional connections with consumers. In order to corroborate the hypothesis, the case of the Polar brand has been assembled, making use of the method of case study, forming corpora consisting of three corpus categories, namely: three pieces of print media advertising, three pieces of digital media and three videos. As a theoretical framework to support these analyses Tavares (1998), Martins (1999, 2006), Pine (1996), Aaker (2001), Aaker and Joachimsthaler (2002), Torres (2010), Gobé (2002) have been elected for the study of emotional impressions. Lakoff (1980, 1987), Forceville and Urios Aparisi (2009), Forceville (1996, 2009), Koller (2009) and Feltes (2007) have been elected for the study of conceptual metaphor and metonymy. Holland and Quinn (1987), D'Andrade (1987) Quinn (1987, 1997), Strauss and Quinn (1997), in their turn, have guided the study of cultural models. The analysis of corpora shows that (a) the media pieces make wide use of the multimodality of language, with emphasis on verbal and nonverbal metaphors and metonymies; and (b) the media producers operate on a ad hoc REGIONAL GAUCHO cultural model, producing a blended representation by conceptual elements from different regions of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, built for the achievement of the specific purposes of their advertisement campaigns.

Some problems of dialect lexicography with particular reference to the preparation of a draft of an illustrative, experientially categorised Dictionary of South African English

Branford, Jean January 1976 (has links)
This dissertation consists in essence of an experiment and a commentary upon it. The text which constitutes Part II is a lexicographical experiment incorporating some features and treatments not usual in lexicography, and Part I consists of a discussion of the problems encountered, principles applied and procedures followed. Neither the matter nor the manner of the experiment, however, lends itself in the present state of our knowledge to the fully impersonal objectivity that is often claimed for the experiments in the physical sciences. At the same time every effort has been made to establish an unbiased record of the data and to maintain a certain methodological consistency. The main experimental feature of Part II is that it is an attempt to combine an orthodox, alphabetical dictionary with an experiential categorisation of the vocabulary, without repeating the entire data for each type of treatment. This has been done by means of a series of numbered, classified word-lists with a limited subject index as a guide to their use. The entries themselves, instead of being repeated in the order of their classification, are numbered according to the category or categories to which the word defined belongs. It can then, by means of its number(s), be found in its own lexical or experiential set (or sets) in the categorised section. This part of the work might be better described as lexicology rather than lexicography but does, I think, prove itself to be a useful adjunct to the A - Z lexicon proper. Apart from the detailed categorisation system the text contains three features not normally included in dictionaries of small compass: illustrative quotations, etymologies and a number of tentative parallels between South African and other varieties of English by means of cross-references to items of similar or related meaning or form in the English of Australia, Canada, the U.S.A., Hong Kong, Anglo-India and other 'overseas' English speech communities. Fray Mocho and lunfardo

Aaron, Gerald Tingey January 1968 (has links)
The purposes of this thesis are to present a study of Jose S. Alvarez, known as Fray Mocho, and his works with particular attention paid to Memorias de un vigilante; to make a study of lunfardo, the slang of Buenos Aires - its origin, its nature, and its influence on language and literature; and to show the important place of Fray Mocho in the history of lunfardo. To accomplish these purposes, in Chapter I, I have undertaken to present a brief sketch of the life of Fray Mocho. Then I attempt to make a brief introduction to his literary work and place it into the literary history of Argentina. Chapter II contains first a discussion of the nature of and importance of Memorias de un vigilante and then a linguistic study, with definitions and etymologies, of the lunfardo vocabulary Fray Mocho gives in "Mundo lunfardo". This is a link with Chapter III which is a study of lunfardo and its historical and sociological background as well as a discussion of the sources of its vocabulary, and the nature of the language. This study of lunfardo closes with a discussion of the influence of lunfardo has had on literature and the spoken language. The conclusion is an attempt to bring together Fray Mocho and lunfardo and show his important place in the history of slang. / Arts, Faculty of / French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies, Department of / Graduate
