It`s know that this region underwent deep transformations since 1970`s. The first wave came with phosphate and niobium mining industry. After this, there were three more capitalist waves, agriculture modernization in the 1980`s, neoliberal policies in the 1990`s together with automaker industry and a new dam construction. All these processes aggravated the contraditions and increased class struggle in Catalão city. Here the main focus is Goiandira city. For this reason, several factors which contributed to the formation of this space are taken into consideration. Goiandira is a small town with five thousands inhabitants, located 14 km far from Catalão. Over the time its relation with Catalão has become more intensified and conflicts with the city are surfacing more and more. The production of space in Goiandira started with a railroad construction in 1911. From that moment on land workers found jobs in the town. The railroad construction created the possibility to build a new village. In this context, not only the church appeared with its rigid views controlling the life of the people, but also the idea of socialism and the fight against exploitation came as well. This town emancipated from Catalão in 1931. During a long time due to its workers the railroad left a lasting feature in the town. Despite being small Goiandira was a railroad connection/hub place and had a important amount of commodities circulation. In 1978, the railsroads tracks and train station were removed from downtown area, afterwards passengers transportation came to an end in the 1980`s and later train services were privatized resulting in workers lay off. This process brought important changes to the town landscape. Today, Goiandira is an enormous laboratory providing workforce to capitalism in Catalão with hundreds of people on the road night and day. Policy makers in Goiandira are getting ready to take advantage of the closeness with Catalão and also little by little segregation is growing in Goiandira. Thus, this study argues that Goiandira has taken part in the capitalist economy, but always being subjected. / Esta pesquisa aborda o desenvolvimento do capitalismo no Sudeste Goiano.

Análise prospectiva da capacidade de processamento de cargas pela ferrovia no porto de Santos / Prospective analyses of the railroad capacity of load processing in the Port of Santos.

Giselle de Moraes Ramos 26 May 2003 (has links)
This research presents a prospective analysis of the railroad operation in the Baixada Santista, considering the currently available infrastructure, the effective operational characteristics and possible future scenarios for a better exploitation of the railroad alternative. The proposed method consisted of the characterization of the railroad operation, identification of the intervening variables and data collection and analysis. The simulation software ARENA was used to construct a representative model of the railroad operation and was validated for current operating conditions. Five alternative scenes were generated considering changes in the railroad operation and increases in the demand of trains per day. The analysis of the results shows that the alterations in the operational configuration in some of the scenes are feasible and the system answers in a satisfactory way. Increments in demand are also feasible up to a certain level where the capacity of some resources compromises the operation of the system.

Development of an upgrade selection process for railway renewal projects

Chen, Xindi January 2017 (has links)
Currently, many railway systems need to be upgraded to meet the demand for rapidly increasing railway capability, environmental concerns and customer satisfaction, while there is a lack of the right models and tools required to support the early decision making stage of railway renewal projects. In this thesis, a new railway selection upgrade process is proposed, which aims to support early stage decision-making in railway renewal projects by finding the most appropriate solutions to take forward for more detailed consideration. The railway selection upgrade process consists of modelling, simulation, split into macros-assessment and micro-simulation, and evaluation. A high-level feasibility analysis model is developed for the macro-assessment, to help engineers efficiently select the most promising upgrade options for further detailed consideration using microscopic simulation. This process provides a quick and efficient way to quantify evaluation functions, based on the 4Cs (capacity, carbon, customer satisfaction and cost) framework, to give a final suggestion on the most appropriate upgrade options. Two case studies, based on the East Coast Main Lines and the Northern Ireland railway network, are presented in order to demonstrate the application and verify the feasibility of the high-level feasibility analysis model and the railway upgrade selection process.

Improving railway operations through the integration of macroscopic and microscopic modelling with optimisation

Umiliacchi, Silvia January 2016 (has links)
Britain's railway industry is implementing the vision of the system in the next thirty years, as outlined in the Rail Technical Strategy (2012); the main objectives to achieve are: carbon and cost reduction, capacity increase and customer satisfaction. The timetable design process is identified as a key enabler of the strategy's implementation. The current method in use is considered as a lengthy process with little computer support and optimisation. This study tries to overcome the outlined weaknesses of the existing method by proposing a more automated process in which the optimisation of a timetable is a properly design stage. The method has been applied to minimise the total energy consumption of five trains on the Aberdeen-Inverness line, while meeting operational and safety constraints. The results showed a reduction in the total energy consumption of 7%, while the average train total journey time is increased by 1% in comparison with the initial schedule.

Improving railway safety : risk assessment study

Chen, Yao January 2013 (has links)
Railway safety is very important, as it concerns human lives. Therefore identifying risks from possible failures is vital to maintain the safety of railways. Currently, many mature tools, such as fault tree analysis and event tree analysis, are applied to investigate possible risks to railway safety. However, in many circumstances, the applications of these tools are unable to provide satisfactory results when the risk data is incomplete or there is a high level of uncertainty involved in the risk dataThus it is essential to develop new methods to overcome the weakness of current assessment tools. This thesis introduces an improved intelligent system for risk analysis usingfuzzy reasoning approach (FRA) and improved fuzzy analytical hierarchy decision making process (Fuzzy-AHP), which is specially designed and developed for the railways, and able to deal with the uncertainty in risk assessment.

Caminhos e descaminhos: a ferrovia e a rodovia no bairro Barcelona em Sorocaba/SP / Roads and Embezzlements: Railroad and the Highway in the Barcelona Village in Sorocaba/São Paulo

Ribeiro, Emerson 04 September 2006 (has links)
This study shows the problem in the space production of a neighborhood by means of the roads that arrive in it, as the railroad and the highway. It tries to discuss as the roads that favored the industrialization process and urbanization, being resulted of the relationships of production of a society. Thus, the establishment of a society in a dice local came also of the roads servants\' importance and elaborated socially for that end, giving a continuity and interfering in the production relationships in its wider sense: of the life, of goods, of spaces. That movement facilitates the reproduction of the productive spheres, being part of the urban and industrial society. In an own time of the neighborhood, in the case the Barcelona Village in the city of Sorocaba-SP, this has its daily one transformed at the same time in that that scale from the position is part of a movement of reproduction of the capital that articulates other scales. To understand that process demands to discusses the expansion of the city, as well as of its centrality and as, at the same time, how the spaces are fragmented and articulated, transforming the local reality.

Frederico, Guilherme Francisco. January 2008 (has links)
Abstract: The Brazilian railroad transport has been achieving a continuous growth, in terms of its production in the last years, mainly after the beginning of the network concessions to private initiative. However, when comparing the participation of the Brazilian railroad modal, towards other countries, in the transports matrix, Brazil still has a low level of participation in this kind of modal. The increase this participation, through of the continued growth will be relevant for the development of the country, due to the necessity of a bigger external competitiveness of our products, which can be achieved by the reduction of its overall logistics costs. Thus, the railroad transport operators may need to make changes in the ways of managing the performance of its operations, searching up achieving the strategical objectives of medium and long term and also to promote the continuous improvement of its outcomes in view other perspectives, beyond financial, traditional measure of performance in the organizational environment. From this scenery, this work has for objective to propose a model of the system of performance measurement for application in the railroad transport operators, which was built through of a case study made in a company of this sector, seeking to establish a typical structure of analysis, and also, by alignment of its common strategical objectives. Thus, searched up the Balanced Scorecard - BSC like option of performance measurement system to be used by these organizations, due to its strategical function and also of improvement instrument, having four perspectives of performance measurement (financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth), besides having a relation of cause and effect between them, as the guidance of a strategical map. / Mestre
