Lexical Collocation Errors in English Produced by Czech Learners of English

ŽEMLIČKOVÁ, Radka January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on collocations, i.e. repeatedly occurring combinations of lexical items. Main emphasis is put on lexical collocations produced incorrectly by Czech learners of English. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with various definitions describing this lexical phenomenon and with classification of collocations. A brief mention of the attitude to teaching collocations at schools is made, too. In the practical part, 200 collocations gathered from essays written by L2 learners of Czech secondary grammar schools are analysed as for a type of a restriction, semantic transparency and a part of speech. With erroneously produced collocation, an attempt to explain the cause leading to error is made and the correct combination or its closest equivalent is adduced. The results are presented in tables.

Interakce mezi adipocyty a imunitními buňkami v patogenezi obezitou vyvolaného protizánětlivého stavu tukové tkáně / Interaction between adipocytes and immune cells in pathogenesis of obesity related pro-inflammatory state of adipose tissue

Mališová, Lucia January 2014 (has links)
Obesity is considered to be a worldwide epidemic disease characterized by an accumulation of AT. Increased adiposity can perturb normal metabolic functions and lead to the development of diseases like insulin resistance and other metabolic disorders. A large amount of clinical studies have been shown that changes in inflammatory signaling in adipose tissue cells, increased infiltration of immune cells into AT as well as stress of endoplasmic reticulum belong to the key molecular steps leading to the development of metabolic disturbances associated with this disease. Adverse metabolic effects of AT accumulation can be diminished by calorie restriction resulting in weight loss. In addition, stress of endoplasmic reticulum could be alleviated by chemical chaperones including bile acids. These two approaches for the treatment of obesity or the obesity-associated disturbances were basis for this PhD thesis. In the first part of this work, we studied inflammation status of gluteal in comparison with abdominal AT and differentiation and secretory capacity of adipocytes after weight loss in obese patients. We revealed that inflammatory profile of gluteal AT, estimated by mRNA level of macrophages and cytokines as markers of inflammatory status of the body, did not explain the different clinical impact of...

Neoklasická kompozice v současné španělštině / The neoclassical composition in modern Spanish

Navrátil, Cyril January 2014 (has links)
Cyril Navrátil FF UK Universita Karlova Románská studia - NMgr. Hispanistika 2013/2014 Abstract The purpose of this essay is to study neoclassical composition. The denomination of this method of word-formation already caused disagreements among the linguists. Many authors name it prefixation (affixation), while others believe that it is a special type of composition, whose components (or at least one of them) take their origins from Latin or Greek. Even though the majority of the Spanish lexicon comes from these languages (mainly from Latin), this type of composition follows some particular rules. In this essay, we do not intend to say who is right and who is wrong, but to demonstrate the current situation of the neoclassical composition in modern Spanish, using the corpus. Nevertheless, it is not possible to completely ignore the different points of view of these authors, who are acclaimed in the academic world. Therefore we decided to divide this study in a theoretic part and a practical one. In the theoretic part, we will recapitulate the terminology used and we will try and choose the most convenient definition for this method. In the practical part, we will see twenty examples of Greco-Latin elements: auto, cida/cidio, cracia/crata (arca/arquía), cripto, crono, eco, euro, filo/filia, foto, narco, neo,...

The ECB, Austerity and the Fiscal Multiplier: A meta-regression analysis of Fiscal Multiplier Estimates in ECB Policy Recommendations / The ECB, Austerity and the Fiscal Multiplier: A meta-regression analysis of Fiscal Multiplier Estimates in ECB Policy Recommendations

Brüsewitz, Caspar Gerbrandt January 2018 (has links)
The primary aim of this thesis is to examine whether the policy recommendations made by the European Central Bank in response to the financial crisis of 2008 were biased towards fiscal consolidation. It posits that such policies, commonly known as austerity, were underpinned by estimates of the fiscal multiplier that were lower than those of international and independent researchers. To analyse this, it provides a systematic overview of the ECB's fiscal multiplier estimates by performing a meta-regression analysis on all ECB working papers making multiplier estimates published between 1992 and 2012, and comparing the results against those of a larger dataset containing multiplier estimates made. It finds that the multiplier estimates of the ECB are significantly lower than the norm, which is potentially suggestive of bias. This thesis contributes to the literature on ideational bias in economic policy-making by providing a systematic literature review that helps inform the discussion on austerity in the EU. It also servers as a replication and expansion of previous meta-regression studies on the fiscal multiplier, by being the first study that specifically examines the estimates of a specific institution.

Vztah n-3 polynenasycených mastných kyselin a buněčných senzorů energetického stavu AMPK a SIRT1 / Relation between n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and cellular sensors of energetic state

Zouhar, Petr January 2010 (has links)
The important factor in regulation of metabolic processes is regulatory proteins, which are able to react by feed-back to energetic state of the cell. Big attention is focused on the AMP activated kinase (AMPK) and NAD+ activated deacetylase SIRT1. These enzymes interact together and their stimulation increases mitochondrial biogenesis and fatty acid oxidation. Due to this it functions beneficially against the onset of obesity, insulin resistance and ageing. Fasting, exercise and some antidiabetogenic drugs act by these regulators. n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are also known because of their stimulative effects on mitochondrial biogenesis and -oxidation. Previous work of our group have showed that intake of higher dose of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in diet lead to increase in activity of AMPK in white adipose tissue. New results presented in this thesis show that SIRT1 is essential for increase in expression of stimulators of -oxidation (PPAR etc) in response to n-3 PUFA in diet. n-3 PUFA futher improve the metabolic profile synergistically with calorie restriction probably through SIRT1.

Jak nízká inflace v eurozóně ovlivňuje inflaci v České republice? / (How) Does low inflation in euro area affect inflation in the Czech Republic?

Veselý, Vladimír January 2016 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to identify domestic and foreign shocks that mostly explain variation in the Czech price level. This goal is accomplished by the use of structural vector autoregression. As the Czech Republic is considered to be a small open economy, it is crucial to include foreign variables into the model which are represented by shocks in euro zone. Furthermore, a block exogeneity restriction is imposed because it is unlikely that shocks in the Czech economy can influence macroeconomic development in euro zone. The results of the thesis indicate that foreign shocks explain 70% variability in Czech price level out of which 50% is explained by euro zone's price level shocks. It is likely that in near future Czech economy will experience deflation for a while. Nevertheless, by 2018 Czech inflation rate should be in 1-3% band.

Postpartální expresní profil kardiovaskulárních microRNA ve vztahu k těhotenským komplikacím - studie matek 3-10 let po porodu / Postpartal expression profile of cardiovascular microRNAs with regard to occurrence of pregnancy-related complications - study on mothers 3-10 years after the delivery

Marvanová, Veronika January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate gene expression of cardiovascular miRNAs in peripheral blood of mothers after delivery. MiRNAs are small non-coding RNAs, which significantly modulate posttranscriptional adjustments of mRNA and thus regulate gene expression across biological processess. Dysregulation of miRNAs is associated with many pathological phenomena, thanks that we can use them for diagnosis and potentionaly we can treat these diseases by the manipulation of miRNA gene expression. We examined gene expression of circulating miRNAs associated with cardiovascular diseases, and we investigated, how the expression profile depends on pregnancy course and manifestation of pregnancy-related complications. For this purpose we examined material from 221 mothers 3-10 years after delivery. A group with identical pregnancy-related complication was always compared with a group of mothers after physiological pregnancy. Gene expression of 29 cardiovascular miRNAs in peripheral blood was studied using reverse transcription and quantitative real-time PCR. It was confirmed, that the expression profile of miRNAs differed between pregnancy-related complications and physiological controls. We also confirmed, that the profile of gene expression discovered at mothers 3-10 years after delivery was different...

Projevy motoriky u tříletých dětí s anamnézou nízké porodní hmotnosti vzhledem ke gestačnímu věku. / Motor skills exhibited by three year old children diagnosed with SGA.

Macečková, Silvie January 2018 (has links)
Bibliographic identification Author's first name and surname: Silvie Macečková, BA. Title of the master thesis: Motor skills exhibited by three year old children diagnosed with SGA. Department: Department of physiotherapy Supervisor: PaedDr. Irena Zounková, Ph.D. The year of presentation: 2018 Abstract This thesis is focused on the issue of children with a history of low birth for gestational age (SGA) in relation to motor problems. Its theoretical part summarizes the specifics of the development of these individuals and defines the problems of terminology and classification. It deals with the risks associated with early postnatal periods and long-term complications with metabolic and neurological impacts. The target of this study was to find out whether motor disorders are more common in children with a history of SGA (IUGR) than those of general population. The test group and the general population group underwent kinesiological examination by aspects and a battery of MABC-2 tests. This hypothesis has not been proven. In addition, the thesis aimed to evaluate the possible link between the motor manifestation at the early age and the age of two and three years. Final data from kinesiological examination, case history data, BSID II test results, and MABC- 2 battery tests were used for this purpose....

Prefixace v současné španělštině / Prefixation in Contemporary Spanish

Řepíková, Kamila January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis takes a comprehensive look at the matter of prefixation in contemporary Spanish and it is therefore divided into two parts. In the first one, we occupy ourselves with the area of constructional morphology and tackle theoretical matters. From the more general topics of word formation we then proceed to prefixation itself which we then attempt to define and describe in more detail. We outline the issues of concept delimitations, definition of prefixation, classification of prefixes and other controversial matters related to this process in the Spanish language. The second part of the thesis is of a more practical nature. There, we focus on the semantic meanings (locative and gradative) some prefixes may acquire. We then concentrate on specific prefixes (entre-, inter-, sobre-, super-), their distribution among word classes, and finally, using InterCorp, a parallel language corpus, we study Czech equivalents of selected elements.
