Although such techniques become increasingly frequent in the field of health, few studies are proposed to investigate the fidelity of these models. The objective of this study was to compare the volume of complex solids obtained by different reverse engineering devices and computational modeling. For this, eight dry mandibles were scanned by different CT devices and by a three-dimensional scanner, from which three-dimensional models were generated. These models received different surface treatment processes and the final volume of the models was compared. The results showed no significant difference between the volume of solids with different surface treatments (p> 0.05) as well as with the different CT devices (p> 0.05). Comparing the CT devices with the three-dimensional scanner, there were volumetric differences between the solids, depending on the gold standard adopted, especially when the two surface treatment combined tools were used. It can be concluded that three-dimensional scanning determined the generation of solids dimensionally different from other reverse engineering techniques, in most cases, especially when more than one surface treatment tool was used.
